Does the '13 RAM 4x4 have the ability to disconnect the front wheels to spin freely without turning the front axle? Also what does the front suspension look like on a 2wd 3500? Is it an independent suspension or a solid axle setup? The front driveshaft, pinion gear, ring gear and t-case chain remain still. The real losses occur when "powering" the ring gear and pinion through the wheels. Ring and pinions have a tremendous amount of friction from the hypoid interface, and that is compounded by the fact you are spinning the pinion, front driveshaft and t-case chain at ~4 times the wheel speed. Ford, GM, RAM/Chrysler, Toyota and many more all use CAD systems. They have proven fuel economy gains, otherwise they wouldn't spend the effort to design them. You will not see Dynatrac or Spyntech "traditional" type hubs in a production full-sized ever again. They cost too much to produce, and take far too much time to set-up properly on the production line. This solid axle is exactly what I was predicting the 2wd was going to be setup. Kinda like the old F450/F550 2wds. I'm assuming the '13 4x4 RAM's don't have a lock out hub? :h

Well I'm not sure about the spacer being bigger or not since I can't see one in person :M But it sure looks like the MY 2014 won't have em :B http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd205/Quicktime_GT/07%20dodge/24bfb751-2905-4e16-ac48-ec217c9d1631.jpg width=640 I'll see if I can take a picture...for some reason, and maybe I'm completely off base, just seemed like the spring pack on the 13 was "more robust", (for want of a better phrase), than the 10 or the 12'...but, again, they may be identical...I know GVWR went from 12200# on my 10 to 12,300# on the 12 to 14,000# on the 13'...hey, maybe it's the air in the tires:h I also seen a picture of a '10-'12 DRW RAM back to back with a '13 DRW RAM and the '13 was clearly taller when comparing the tailgate heights. One strategy sometimes is to put a taller block between the springs and the axle to allow for more compression of the springs to increase load carrying capability. Again not punching holes NC, but just making a visual observation based on very limited information. :W

Actually, the rear end is setting a little lower than it did on the 10 and the 12, but believe it's because the front end is beefier....don't know if that makes sense, but looking at the stance on the 10 and the 12, the rear end definitely was higher "looking" than on the 2013' and by Rick's measurements, as well as the gentleman who gave us the height on the 12', it appears the 13, from road to top of the tailgate is 3/4" or so lower than the 12'.. Well, if anyone can find something wrong with these new Ram's, or run them down, I know we can count on good ole FishOnOne to go above and beyond to please..............himself:) NC, If I ever state anything incorrect about your beloved '13 RAM feel free to correct me and I'll stand corrected. But it's your boys at the Cumminsforum.com that's finding the problems with the '13 and crying about it. Someone needs to drive the ship over there before things get out of control! :R

Hey Jim that is a compliment! I usually am referred to as much worse than that. My point is it is amazing what my truck does for me and the 13's will perform so much better. I just don't think I could go without the fancy stitching on the leather! Maybe I could trade seats. You know, I liked the fancy stitching also, but they aren't doing it to the 13's that I'm aware of. I do know there is a step up in leather upholstery between a laramie and the Longhorn. This Longhorn has all the other fancy "stuff" on the seats and the console, just not the stitching. Also, instead of plastic accents on the doors and dash, it's accented with real wood, .pretty cool, including top part of steering wheel. No excuse now not to buy one. Here is one with the fancy stitching. 2013 Ram Longhorn I'm looking at the rear springs and they don't look any different from the previous model. Maybe there's a taller spacer that raises the rear a bit higher.

How could you tell if it was a 2013 Ram 2500HD? Just curious. Or which transmission it had. You lose 20 ponies with the 68 and 35 with the hand shaker. Torque goes from 850 down to 800 with the 68 and 660 with the hand shaker. Just me but my days of rolling the gears is gone with that much of a power loss :M Jim is there any noticeable body difference between the 12 and 13? Well besides the Antenna location :W Sorry for the late response as I don't see this thread on my home PC :R The headlights was the indicator it was a '13 model and the truck had an auto tranny. Later down the road a bit I pulled into a Shell station to fill up and the (young) guy pulled in to talk. His new truck had ~2,500 miles and he's gettign around 16 mpg mixed driving and enjoying his new truck. This is actually the second time at this particular intersection(the first being an '90's Dodge cummins truck and I'm in my 05 Super Duty 6.0 psd) that I had to step up to the plate. :B It wasn't too long ago that a retired couple in their Super Duty 7.3 psd challenged me and I dusted him too. :B

Larry when was the last time Sam did a Dodge ( yes that long ago) ad? Unless that is his "deep voice" in the commercials :B Troy I'm sure your 8 banger will be faster in a solo race, but hook up like 28k lbs up a 6% grade that 850 TQ will leave you in the dust. We'll know the hurt locker test soon enough. OBTW pickuptrucks.com won't even test the Ford or GM for that weight as they are not rated for it :B :B Having said that, that goat better pull the hill better :W with the lesser GCWR of the competition. Bottom line is my boat is faster by a wide margin :B Agreed... I'm looking forward to the hurt locker test as well.

I do notice the ovals and ties have been silent lately, well until Larry showed up :B Where are these guys :H They usuallly show in big numbers on a Ram thread. I could share my experience with a '13 2500 RAM a few weeks ago to see who could get from a double lane to a single lane from a lighted intersection if that would make this thread more appropriate for you! :B

http://www.cyberbiker.ca/truck/20136.jpg width=640 I would defenitely pass on the 2500 for a 3500 SRW for the front suspension alone if I was looking at a RAM. The 2500 RAM I test drove last year felt really rough from the end if that makes any sense.

Travelnutz,Chrysler has not been sold three times. There was the "Merger of Equals" when that POS know nothing Bob Eaton merged us with Damn-Lire. Who by the way was cash poor before the merger but soon and a major cash infusion thanks to Chrysler. Good ole Bobby Boy received a $100,000,000.00 buy out for him to step down. He only had 9 months left on his contract and he could have been let go for not a penny. Think maybe there was a little per merger negotiation in place? Lee Iaccoca told the Board that if they put Bobby Boy in charge Chrysler would be doomed and he was right. After D-L ran Chrysler into the ground they took what they wanted and sold us to the Hell-Hound's. As for the Bankruptcy I do believe your great GMC was in the Court Room right next door with us TN. We where forced through Bankruptcy both GM nor Chrysler wanted it. As for the rest of your post it don't hold water my friend, when CEO's are being paid hundreds of millions in pay, options and benefits plus their golden parachutes they all have then nope sorry not buying it. By the way for someone that claims poverty you sure are living the high life TN. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. Don Lee Iacocca chose Boby Boy as his successor and he even admitted it in his book "Where Have All the Leaders Gone" that was his biggest mistake at Chrysler. He should have chosen Bob Lutz who was the real big gun at Chrysler during the 90s and I bet Chrysler would still be an American company to date. I did remember reading this on the Allpar.com site The frame-mounted fuel filter/water separator has 3-micron particulate filtration and water stripping to increase engine performance and durability. The unique venting system prevents dirt and water from entering the tank; a warning light illuminates on the truck's instrument cluster when the high-capacity sump requires draining. Have you looked for the new fuel filters installed on the frame Jim? Those capless fillers are pretty strange. I remember the first time I saw one before returning the rental, WTF was my initial thought. I do remember when I was a kid working at the Shell station, we had a big old box full of forgotten gas caps. And finding the fuel location on a 56 Chevy was sure fun the first time :B I'll check it out...get a pic of it and try to post:) http://69.61.74.250/articlelive/content_images/2013RAM_Fuel-WaterSeparator.jpg width=640 Something like this? The lower fuel filter looks very similair to the new Super Duty filters except for the clear bottom that I really like. It would have been good to have some metal shield around that filter though. Does these trucks has a second fuel filter under the hood? Also these new RAMS have two radiaters. What does the second radiater supply coolant to and where is the second water pump?

so why did ram do away with the fuel cap? It looks to me that RAM didn't want to change the size of the flip door so they made the Fuel Fill port smaller via the capless design so it would fit the old flip door configuration. I could be wrong... It could be all about that "class leading" talk Diaz was slurping. :B
