RE: Canada Wireless

We relied on the libraries. Many communities have a spot in town for free internet for visitors. Found lots of them in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

RE: Halibut in Alaska

We went out of Seward. All fish kept were in the 40 - 70 pound class with two over 100. Had our limit quickly and spent the rest of the time fishing salmon. Good trip and very scenic. Very rough coming back in with "holes" in the water. LOL

RE: Bike storage in basement of Cameo Carriage

We put two bikes in our main storage area all the time. I put a heavy blanket between them to cushion and separate them. They will also fit in the front compartment in spite of the generator if I remove one wheel. If we are moving from one spot to another we many times just put the bikes inside the living area. A couple days in your sojourn south should not be uncomfortable with bikes in the living area.

RE: Carriage Compass 34CK3

Good info on the previous post. The Compass has been dropped but still carries most of the great features of the Carriage lines. It was made on the same assembly line as the $150,000 Royals.
Incidently, the Domani is still alive and doing well - - it will be back up on the website shortly. It is in the middle of model changes and not current on their reworked website.

RE: Parallel Parking a 5th Wheel

Reminds me of some of the "State Parks" in California along Hwy 1. My first time out there I thought I was in luck with all those wonderful "State Parks" all along the highway - - surely there would be something open somewhere. OH YEH - - SURE THERE IS. All the sites are reserved by Californians. Further, the "STATE PARK" is the little stretch of road that is left after the rest of the road fell down the cliff into the ocean. Now if that doesn't give you the warm fuzzies while you are curled up in your bed sleeping that night, nothing will. LOL Finally ended up on a tip of land out toward the water where the fence had been knocked down - - one rig out there all ready - - by the morning there were 16 of us out there. Sure no where else to put it and you DON'T want to be driving that road in the fog at night - - NOPE.

RE: Getting rodent urine smell out of basement

Word of caution - - DO NOT go in the unit if you have an ozone generator working. Leave it on for 24 hours, then deep breath it, run in, open some windows and doors and go back out. Ozone burns organic matter including the lungs. Do not leave pets or plants in with it - - it will kill them.
As for using KILZ - - the OLD KILZ would kill anything including the applicator. LOL It was pigmented shellac and when sprayed was horrible. The new KILZ is not so much an odor blocker as it is to contain stains and bleed thru to repaint such as in fire repair jobs. The odor needs to be killed before coating with KILZ before the repaint. KILZ will definitely help, but should not the primary treatment for trying to kill the odor.
Commercial janitorial supply houses carry products that are used by hospitals and such for odor control of urine, blood, body odors, etc. It contains a QUAT. I used it in my business for years and keep a gallon around for washing bath floors, deodorizing the garbage cans, etc. One gallon will last for years for the average person and will definitely kill all animal odors. It can be used as a spray (don't breath it) and in wash water and carries a mild pleasant smell.

RE: Cameo in the winter

The only OSB I know of in Carriage was in their experiment in an entry level below Cameo called the Compass - - it had "some" OSB in it. Otherwise, I think all is plywood throughout including floors and roof. Very well built units.

RE: Cameo in the winter

Be sure the rig has Astrofoil insulation. They are well insulated units and well built. Dual pane windows would be a plus but not a necessity pending where you intend to hang out. All tanks are in heated space.

RE: Do any fifth wheels have this?

One of my motorhomes had the basement AC unit. Expensive to buy, expensive to service, and a pain to replace. It was not as effective as a roof top unit. I think the standard cold from the ceiling and heat from the floor is the most effective in giving somewhat even results. It was much noisier when outside the coach to my neighbors than the rooftop units - - it was on the street side of the coach next to "their" patio area.

RE: Slide Failure/Can't use RV

First of all never tell them you live in it full time as they will let you know that RV's are not intended to be used full time.....The warranty can be voided in some issues
Not quite right - - Carriage is rated full time usage as well as a couple other top name manufacturers.
Carriage is very good about standing behind their product and carries one of the best warranties. If Don said he would be back with this week, work with them - - a lot depends on attitude about what a factory can, or can not do for you. Threaten them and they will go away - - work with them and they will get it right. Carriage has been here a long time, has good products and does not intend to close up shop - - they want you to have a good unit.

RE: Bed air hitch vs pin version

If you don't have a hitch yet, definitely consider the Air Safe Hitch or similar. By the time you buy a regular hitch plus a pinbox, you will have almost the same amount in the combination. If you all ready have a hitch, then it is decision time. One difference in the air pinbox versus something like Air Safe - - the pinbox is hinged, meaning it only goes up and down. The Air Safe moves in all directions meaning it will help smooth out lurching (chucking) from the fore/aft and side to side movement.

RE: One more question on roof sealing.

Quick answer - - yes, clean off the screw heads and recaulk them. DICOR is good and it is cheap. I check my roof every 6 months or so and clean and reseal everything every two years. Usually takes 1 tube of DICOR for the whole job. I use this time to check screw tightness (don't overdo it) and spend a little time looking everything over.

RE: Macerator systems permanently mounted to trailer underside

I guess I have to ask the question - - - why? There really is only one reason to have a macerator pump - - when you have to pump discharge up a hill more than 12". How often does this happen? Once for me in 60,000 miles from Florida to Newfoundland to Alaska to Mexico and all parts in between. If you are new to the RV world, ask yourself really tough questions before you spend your money. Vendors can come up with some neat looking stuff for you spend your money - - ask questions - - the best one is "WHY."

RE: Aux Tank with external Pump???

I have the RDS tank with gravity flow. Total cost less than $600. Love it. See the Northern Tools website for information on them. No wiring, no pumps, no electric valves to fail. Plus a small tool box in the top of it.

RE: Whats the most # of slides and whats that longest slide made

Carriage builds several with full wall length wall slides. It obviously does not go "all" the way, but pretty close. Here is a pic of one at a show. This is the CarriLite model. Sure is a pretty thing inside too.

RE: Balloon ST tires

You must remember that ST tires are designed to be ballooned on purpose. By removing the sharp outside corner on the tire it decreases the drag on the tire when making sharp turns and backing into that campsite. The ST tire also has a stiffer sidewall, so between that and the lack of a ridge to dig in, you won't have your tire looking like it is going to pull of the rim in that tight turn. It is designed to track straight line.
