RE: New record !

You guys have pretty much convinced me to never buy a diesel truck. Uh make take a Ford diesel truck. Last I heard Cummins was one of the longest lasting engines made.

RE: Anyone haul an ATV in the pick up bed

We carry a Rzr in the bed of ours, most of the time. When you decide to buy your own ramp, make sure it is an aluminum triple fold, so that you have a solid ramp from one side of the tail gate to the other and it is light enough to handle by yourself. Also, we use EX Supports, as a safety feature. It is cheap insurance in case one of the cable supports break. The cost of replacing or even repairing the tailgate is IMO prohibitive.... Same here. I also put down 2 2x10x8s so it helps support the weight - and oh yeah I back it in so the weight is off the tail gate. What ramp do you use? I use 2 seperate ramps and am always nervous when I load it.

RE: F350 6.0 -- help!

On a camping trip from Tucson to Payson this week I saw 2 trucks pulling RVs on the side of the road with the hoods up. Both were Ford 6.0s - nothing like a ruined vacation to make you want a different brand truck.

RE: The continuing Saga waiting for my new Ram 3500

I think this Linky explains why the 3500 trucks may have suffered production delays. Yes - let us bring up fire recalls - I think Ford leads this with flying colors. Are you ford salesman?

RE: Ford 6.0

When my Cummins motorhome stranded me at a gas station a few weeks ago, I saw many 6.0 powered Fords come and go in the 4 hours I was stuck there. It was like a little reminder that if I had my 6.0 PSD I'd be driving right now and not stuck here. After a $500 tow bill and a $1,300 repair bill for a wiring problem the starter went out a week later. Hey - brilliant post - a motor home's starter problems have nothing to do with an engines reliability. You should run out and buy as many Ford 6.0s as you can. I am sure they will be collectors items soon.

RE: Ford diesel-looking for advice on best year-least problems

So buy the 04 to 08 F250/F350 of your dreams, make sure the engine in it has had it! Get a super good deal on it then go here and put a reliable engine in it! Fummins Just buy a V10... No Cummins required. Super reliable. Well the OP wants a Diesel not a thirsty gas V10, He is looking for a Diesel F250, let have what many consider the best of all worlds a Cummins power plant, an Allison transmission, and a Ford body. Guess we each pick our own poison. 16k for a cummins swap is a boatload of money and buys a lot of gasoline. Oh well it's only money. Oh wait - how about a Cummins without the Ford - just by a Dodge with a Cummins in it - better than a Ford anyday IMHO.

RE: Ford diesel-looking for advice on best year-least problems

It would be interesting to take the emotion out of the 6.0/6.4 debate and see what actual repair and failure rates were. My guess it would be high but not what the Internet would lead you to believe. Reading various sources it seems like there were lots of teething problems in the beginning as people ran and maintaned them like the 7.3 (which it is totally different from) and from tuners inexperienced with them. Basically IMHO if you take care of it, maintain it properly, and don't tune it, it should be fine. If you want reassurance then do the bulletproofing stuff. I'd suggest watching powerstrokehelp.com's videos as he gives a good breakdown of the weak spots of the 6.0. That being said, in my search for a F250/350 I've been intrigued by the 6.0 and have been reading up on them. I'm not sure it's to be avoided all the time but if you can get a solid service history it may be worth looking into. Why in the world take the gamble?? Just get a Dodge or GM - better engines even if the 6.0 is running right. The only reason to mess with the 6.0 is if you drink blue coolaid.

RE: Any known issues with 2013 F-250's?

I have a 2011 Ford and although it did have an issue with the turbo, which Ford replaced under warranty, it is without doubt the best pick up I have ever owned. My turbo made a kind of a clanging sound at low rpm as though the waste gate was fluttering. The problem was resolved by replacing the turbo with one direct from the factory - Ford engineering told the dealer not to replace the turbo with one from parts but to wait for a new turbo which would be shipped direct from the factory. This is evidence to me that the problem was addressed with the turbo design and was limited to the 2011 production models. By looking at this thread it looks like Ford still does not have a handle on this problem. Or there is a lot of old parts being put on up to this date? Post #2 says he has all the updates and they are still replacing 1 turbo a month with updated turbo's. :E Another turbo failure with updated parts, but from the above it looks like Ford might still be having problems with the updated parts? I have no idea on how the 13's are doing. They are too new to see any failure trends. Only time will tell if this problem has been solved. Ford just doesn't seem to be able to build a diesel - not since the old 7.3.

RE: Ford F250 Diesel Advice

Oh boy another 6.0 thread :B :B As soon as one gets locked another pops up to take its place. OP- I agree with the others. If you are a Ford guy go V-10. If you are a diesel guy go GM or Cummins. Why do the threads get locked?

RE: buying a Ford 6.0???

Greg I find it amusing that you assume that because you good luck with your 6.0 that it will be the same for everyone. Hello - warranty costs from Ford set records - class action lawsuits - suits agaisnt and by the engine maker - e-mails from Ford engineers admitting it is a POS. And yet you still advise an unsuspecting truck buyer that it is OK?

Why do people keep buying Ford diesels if they are so bad?

RE: Litigation regarding Ford 6.0 diesel

If I were one of the scum sucking class action lawyers I would target the 6.4 next - seems to have been as bad as the 6.0.

RE: Litigation regarding Ford 6.0 diesel

Lawyers are reptiles. But Ford is extremely guilty of poor engineering and profit maximizing on the backs of their overly loyal customers - and since said customers just keep buying these defective trucks - maybe justice will be served.

RE: 2003 F250 7.3L Gem posssibly for someone

That price is very reasonable, in today's used truck market. A Ford dealer here in Boise had a similar truck that he was asking $24K for and just sold it for $22K......Say what you may, but 2003 7.3L trucks with low mileage and a Lariat interior, are in high demand. Yeah I was at a forest service truck auction and the 7.3s were going for more than the 6.0s - even being older and with more miles.

RE: Chrysler says 2013 Ram 3500 can tow 30,000 pounds

Some new video of a new HD RAM frame etc. from NAIAS. LINK Glad to finally see some real numbers...14,000# GVWR is very respectable, with 37,000# of GCWR...SON!!!! 385HP and 850ftlb of TQ....believe the Ram might be able to compete with the Chevy and Ford Dually's now....That frame looks stout...Guess I may have to look at one of these when they close them out the end of this year or early 2014 when they'll be wanting to get them off the lot's:B A lttle bit more than compete - jf you only tow by the numbers - Dodge leap frogs both GM and Ford - but many exceed the numbers on a regular basis - look at hotshot drivers - and last I looked they use Dodges more than the other 2.

RE: My Ford 6.0 PSD dead for good!

Your 9 year old truck with less than 80K miles on it dies and your solution is to buy another truck of the same brand? Unless you know that you terribly abused the old truck, most people would consider that a questionable decision. There is a lot to this. Ford has produced a substandard diesel from 03-10 pissing off a lot of customers with the 6.0 and 6.4. Yet Ford continues to sell more diesel pickups than everyone else. That has to mean a lot of 6.0 and 6.4 owners came back to Ford for the 6.7. This is during a time when both Ram and GM have fielded a mostly trouble free product since 01. I dont doubt that Ford lost some customers, but obviously a great many came back for another Ford product. So given the history of the Ford customer base, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Ford has been unforgiving in the warranty department concerning the 6.7. They dont have to be forgiving if their custmers are. A fool and his money.

RE: Truck Choice

Bone stock 6.0, less than 10,000 miles per year, all required maintenance done at dealer and documented, no tuner no mods, for under $10,000. Dude - do you suffer from turrets syndrome? You talk nonsense all the time.

Same problem with my 2006 2500 - it was the front brakes telling me it was time for new pads.

RE: Ford's answers to the NHTSA 6.7 Investigation

Update on the update: Several manufacturers stepped up to the plate and "voluntarily" extended the warranty on the HPFP to 10 years or 120,00 miles. BMW, VW to start: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=430408 Note BMW called it a EMISSION part --- which is my view all along. VW issued an extended warranty for a few model years: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=308323&page=275 I am sure Ford will soon follow. http://myfastgti.com/volkswagen/threads/15194-Warranty-Extention-Intake-Camshaft-Camshaft-Follower-amp-High-Pressure-Fuel-Pump Interesting... comments about Bosch and how much of their correspondence got redacted: Additional bits: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showpost.php?p=3961352&postcount=4045 Their analysis of the issues.. told 2nd hand here: Wow. Overall, it does not look good for VW. It looks to me like fuel is implicated in less than half of the supplied narratives and spreadsheets. Early on, it looks like significant effort went into reducing the number of residual particles left behind from manufacturing. "For half a year now there has have been no malfunctions ... with the CP4.2 V6-TDI. For the CP4.1 ... there have, however, been some issues" "The tappet anti-rotation lock is currently a priority again ... still not convinced since, according to Bosch, the tappet rotator is only the end damage of a seizing/blocked roller" "I came across a presentation from the year 2006, in which a significant cause for tappet turning and drive damage in the CP4 is known: the interaction between roller and roller suppport. For years later, this same fact is being pointed out as the solution to all our problems. What prevented us from implementing this finding earlier?"
