RE: Grills that hang on the side wall of the trailer

The RV Q which came with the Seneca has worked well for seven years. No smoke or grease problems on the rig. With or without the awning.

RE: Las Vegas to Denver via I-70 any tips on roads

Do a search for, "Beaver UT tire scam revisited" under General topics I believe for more coverage. The fuel stop is safe but old JimBob in his golf cart is a crook. Also the KOA was there last August the same as it was five years ago.

RE: Las Vegas to Denver via I-70 any tips on roads

Last August the drive east was easy with little traffic after the heat in Vegas. Stopped in Beaver KOA but be aware of a tire scam at the truck stop at the north end of town. The climb through CO is mostly gentle until around Vail where it was nice to have a turbo diesel at altitude. You will enjoy the trip.

RE: Extended Warranty

After 7 years on the first warranty which worked out well I am in the same boat. I went back to the dealer for a quote and was not pleased with the response. Someone on this forum recommended Wholesale Warranties.com in San Diego. Out of three I contacted they look to be the best and have many satisfied customers. I was looking for something to cover the Kodiak truck part of the rig but for another $1,000 the home parts are included for the next 4 years. Nothing is cheap to replace on a Class 5 diesel truck so this will work out fine. From past experience with the first extended warranty I prefer to have things taken care of prior to the need in E. Overshoe, Wy. Look up the number on their site and ask for David.

RE: Helpful vendors or scam artists?

Bingo, you have a winner. The truck stop at the north end of Beaver, UT still has JimBob in his golf cart from the tire place next door making the rounds with all of the bad news. He was still there last September. It was the first stop in a 3 week trip following a complete checkup so nothing was amiss. The truck stop is OK but beware of the scam from the tire operation next door.

RE: RVQ poor performance

I don't know if the OP is talking about the same unit that came with our Jayco Seneca but there is no shortage of flame on our's. Anything more than the medium setting puts out too much flame for steaks and burgers. The gas hose hooks to the propane tank stub out below the support. Works great for the two of us.

RE: Vehicles you could of bought, wished you did, but didn't

Let's see, a couple I saw at the time. A 1963 Porsche 356C, with sunroof for $1,600 just as I was drafted in 1966. A 1967 Shelby 427 with 3 sets of induction, single 4 barrel, dual 4 barrel and a set of webbers all for $6,000 in 1969. At the time $6,000 was more than all of the money in the world but that car would be valued at 7 figures or so. What could have been.

RE: C or Super C purchase?

As an owner of an ’06 Seneca 34 SS diesel since new with 45k on the clock and most using a tow dolly I have a little experience. The 450 based C and Super C are two totally different animals beginning with the front cockpit area. Much higher and larger in all dimensions, little if any doghouse intrusion and so much room behind the driver’s seat that you never touch the slide even at full rear movement and reclined. Great for long legs. We have so much storage space both inside and in the basement that there are still empty bays we cannot fill after 6 years. I don’t know where the limited carrying capacity comes from as the last time on a scale showed 20,600 lbs on a 23,000 limit plus 3,700lbs of caddy and PT Cruiser. A class 5 commercial truck was made to be used hard and abused by employees on the job and survive. If used like a personal vehicle by a responsible owner the truck part will long outlive me. It is about as complicated as an anvil with all fluids and filters within easy reach under the clamshell hood. The turbo diesel is good for any high country in CA or across Colorado and the exhaust breaking earns its keep when little or no breaking is needed on the down hills. The tank holds 80 gallons and I spend them frivolously at speeds of 60+ in CA and 65+ elsewhere. My requirement was to have a vehicle which would keep up with commercial traffic and not get in the way of people who earn their living on the road while I am having fun. In short if the super C was not available I would not have an RV. If your budget can get you into the larger size you will not be sorry. “Some is good, more is better and too much is just right.”

RE: How did we ever survive ?

Ah, yes...
BA MOUI BA
"33" beer...
"THEY" also said it had ground glass in it.
There was one month in 1966 when "they" brought us a shipload of Falstaff.
There was a LOT of "33" beer consumed that month. We never found out what happened to the Falstaff, but nobody in my unit drank it!
BA MOUI BA was good stuff!
Oh my! How could I ever forget. The warm "33" beer was bad but the Falstaff was the only liquid that would turn into a solid when you tried to swallow it. Our allotment was 3 cans per day in the field. We would drink 2 at night when it came off the chopper and put one under some leaves to cool for the morning. That one we would use to chase down the malaria pill. All of the good times you forget.

RE: How do you calculate travel time?

I usually set the cruise at 65 and over many trips my GPS has shown a moving speed of 60mph. My decision on distance for any day is based on how many of the moving hours I want to spend that day. How early do we want to roll and how many rest stops, how long do we want for lunch determines where we will spend the night. Allowances need to be made if major metropolitan areas are along the route.

RE: HWY 54

We did the route both ways in 2010 and west bound last summer. Everyone seemed to observe the speed limit with almost no slow traffic or delays. There is one exception, a traffic signal in the middle of nowhere on either side of some bridge work where there is only one lane. We were stopped for 20 minutes waiting our turn to cross. I will take it anytime rather than going down to the I-40 at OKC and west.

RE: Toad or no toad

Does the toad slow you down or cost you more money than renting a car at your destination? I think not. We drive the Mothership to the campground and drive the Droid wherever we need to go from there. Not towing is never a question.

RE: Ford Transit Chassis Discussion

I thought this had something to do with the Transit Van. There must be a market for a nice little replacement for the old Toyota based rig. Something that is reliable, not overloaded and nicely appointed should be appreciated at this size. If you want bigger, more power, towing capacity or multiple slides this is not for you. My preference is for my Super C but 25 years ago a Transit based rig would would have been perfect.

RE: Rose Bowl Parade - RV Parking Options

Work backwards from seats available at Sharp Seating. Having a reserved seat sure beats hanging out on a sidewalk from noon on the 31st. There are also packages from tour companies around Disneyland in Anaheim that provide the bus and seats. RV parking along the route is expensive, real small spaces and dry. I don't know about public transportation to and from the parade route but some may be listed on the Pasadena web site. It was fun a couple of years in high school decorating a float and then sitting out in the cold waiting for the parade to start. The last time friends came out to visit and see the parade we got reserved parking near our seats and it worked out very well. Not cheap but a good way to go. Enjoy the parade in person as no big screen TV can do it justice.

RE: Front Wheel Alignment in Lakewood, CA

For my Kodiak based Seneca the Chevy truck dealer uses Vodies Alignment in Garden Grove. When new the front tires were not balanced and Simpson Chevy sent the rig there where they did a spin balance on the rig. That did the trick. Last summer the rig was turning right and picked up a front end bounce. Took it to Vodies for an alignment and spin balance and all is well. Two times and they did the job I needed. Call them at (714) 537-6347.

RE: Where is everybody going for Thanksgiving?

Pechanga RV park and Casino in Temecula for 4 nights like last year. Deep fry a turkey early at home and take it along for the big meal and lots of leftovers. Only downside is the great aroma of the bird filling the rig during the drive on down. A little golf, poker, wine tasting, meeting my sister at another casino and a little nothing in between. A good time will be had by all.

RE: I 80 from North Platte to Salt lake city

Weather is the main concern as there are no steep grades in WY. There is a rest stop not too far west of Cheyenne which is at 8,200ft. Beware if you stop for lunch and open a ketchup bottle with a squirt top. What a mess I had to clean up. Enjoy the trip.
