RE: Anyone get out camping this last week

Yes, every year we go on Thanksgiving. This year we were at Kanopolis State Park for four days.

RE: 3.42 Gears????

I've got 3.73s in my 04. I will rarely pull the Comet in OD, lots of downshifting on even the slightest of hills. My mpg didn't change any(11mpg) driving in drive as opposed to overdrive and things seem like they aren't working as hard. I rarely go over 65 and usually it's around 60. There are a couple of hills in the Flint Hills that the truck will want to downshift to second. My city mpg is around 15.3 usually not towing, 17-19 highway. I got just over 20 on one tank heading over to Missouri but I had one heck of a tailwind.
I'm sure that didn't help you much.:D

Nice Toyota Andy.
Heres mine.

One of the three things I tow.

That was shortly after I got the truck. I also pull a boat.

And this little pup I picked up a couple of months ago.

RE: New Canvas (updated with pics)

Yeah I think if I do a little fine tuning with the shepards poles it would look better. I do like the gray better.

RE: New Canvas (updated with pics)

Ok, we got the canvas installed Sunday. It went pretty smooth for the most part. I was to caught up in the moment to take pics of the install but I can do the before and after thing.
Before

After
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee180/CometCamper/1101091206.jpg
It wasn't a perfect fit but pretty darn close. I must say that the quality of workmanship on the canvas looks really good, Bear Creek did a nice job.
We might take it out for a quick trip Sat. night to try it out, I'll get more pics if we do.

RE: New Canvas (updated with pics)

a_n, those are sure encouraging words, just what I want to hear. Hopefully I will get it installed this weekend. Been looking to buy a new house and that is taking up alot of time.
92, after all of the work you have done to your pup I would think you would want to hold onto it for a long while.
Thanks bud hopefully pics will be here in a few days.

RE: 1992 Flagstaff - roof, lift, fridge, etc.. with pics

Table should look like this, freestanding.
http://home.cogeco.ca/~amdrules/Flagstaff/Table.jpg
Hey, I know that table. I could get you the measurments or more pics pretty easily as the Flagstaff is in the garage awaiting new canvas from Bear Creek. :B
I am impressed with the amount of work you have done in the time it has taken me to fix my roof.
Let me know if I can help.

RE: Thinking About Workamping At Amazon in Southeast Kansas?

I can second the Elk City State Park recommendation, we have camped there on Thanksgiving a couple of times and had a great time. There are some great hiking trails around the lake.
Our camp site last year at Elk City.
http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee180/CometCamper/Image1.jpg
The view across the road.

The lake was up some because they were working on the spillway(?) I believe.
The pic in my sig is also from Elk City at the bath house on our way out.
Sorry I am not a work camper but I just love this lake.

RE: Single vs dual axle

I have never had any issues towing with a single axle, put many miles on the old Comet without incident. As said, just watch tire pressures and overall condition and you should be fine. I haven't had a blowout yet on the Comet but have had a couple on the single axle boat trailer and it wasn't a bad thing, the trailer didn't do anything crazy. The worst part of it was changing the tire along the side of the highway. I would think if single axle trailers were so "bad" there wouldn't be so many of them around.

RE: 2011 RWD Chevy V8 Caprice-police car-can it tow

I may be way off here but why don't they offer hybrids in police cars? Seems like with all of the city driving most do they could save a ton in fuel. They would still have the performance of a V8. I know I see the police cars sitting around all of the time idling away. Maybe because of all of the electronics police require the engine would have to run to keep the batteries charged.
Sorry just thinking out loud.

RE: Lowering a Dually

Hey Ryan, you got any before and after pics? Sounds interesting. I cranked my torsion bars a little to level my truck out, I did go and get it aligned just to make sure things were still good. It still rides and drives fine. I would probably get my alignment checked if I were you, especially if the tires are still new.

RE: 2010 Off Road Models

That Starcraft is sweet. Thats what I was talking about, if you do alot of backroad/backwoods camping the shorter length would be easier to maneuver.

RE: 2010 Off Road Models

I wish there were some that didn't have the front cargo area. I think the shorter length would be nice, I have no ATV and can carry everything in the truck bed. I do understand the need though.

RE: Mods for Grocery Getter?

I recently had Justin at Black Bear do a tune on my 04 Silverado with 3.73s, what a difference. I was lucky enough to get an in person tune as he was in town doing a bunch. I would recommend the tune as well, best 250 bucks I have spent on my truck. The truck shifts better and isn't such a dog after gear changes. Justin is great to work with and will get you set up how you want.
Black Bear Performance
I am not associated with them in any way, just a happy customer. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
