RE: Anyone repaired a cracked AC shroud?

When I cracked mine I taped it form the inside with some eternabond tape I had left over from a roof job. Worked well.
Eternabond worked fine for us too.

RE: where did the oil go?

In the late 60's we had a 1953 Chevy pick up at used a quart every 40 miles. It was 20 miles to town so we made sure it was full before we left and just added a quart on return without checking the dipstick. :)
Even with some tool and die background I am still impressed internal combustion engines can hold together and keep running hour after hour the way they can do for many years.
While burning a quart every 40 miles is excessive in my book it still meant a poor dirt farmer had a usable truck. Gas was $.25 a gallon a quart of oil was no more than that.
I do think vehicles that need oil before they burn a tank of gas is a pain because you have to check the oil between fill ups. We have one truck while we do not have to add oil we still check the oil because it may set 4-5 months between usages just to be on the safe side plus the hood needs to be opened to check for animal nests.
Needing to add a quart every 900 miles is a non issue except for bragging rights at 'My engine does not use any oil'.
If that was technically a true statement then one would have a blown engine because they all use at least a few drops. :B

RE: where did the oil go?

Sticking with the better oil is fine.
Load does affect usage. We had an 801 Ford tractor that would go 100 hours without adding a quart but it would burn 1 quart in 8 hours when powering the AC-72 combine.

RE: AGM batteries vs flooded wet cell deep cylce

It seems net costs are about equal for both AMG and FLA. The main difference does one have the up front cash vs dealing with FLA messes.

RE: 13 silverado 1500 6.2 question

All I know is a few weeks ago a salesman told me his sharp customers claim on mid grade gas they are getting over 20 MPH. I am sure that was not towing. He said it was the one engine where the higher octane gave better MPG. It may be the GM V-8 of choice in gas engines based on what he was saying. They may be the higher margin option as far as I know. :B

SuperDutyMan drives on the point insurance adjusting is an art and not a science. :) 50+ sets of laws is a factor too.

RE: blown tire collision or comprehensive

I spoke to geico today and they said that it was a collision because the tire hit the wheel well. I told them to read my comp policy and one of the comp covers was explosions which i told them the tire exploded which caused the contact with the wheel well. THEY THEN CHANGED IT TO COMP COVERAGE.
CONGRATULATIONS, I'm impressed.
I expect it was just an lack of experience issue on their part initially.

RE: V10 oil consumption

these responses are really varied. some say my oil usage is normal, others don't. Some change oil at about 3K miles, others don't. So, it seems to me there is no right answer to either of my questions. Thanks for the input, but will gladly take more.
It is WNL as I posted.
That fact may be in your printed manual.
Most any engine 1 qt per 1000 miles is WNL.
Our 454 with 109K miles does not get 1 qt low in 3000 miles but if it used 3 qt in 3000 miles from new it would have still been within normal limits.
There are readers with BP of 133/83 that may live as long as others with 120/80. Average and normal are not always equal.:)

RE: V10 oil consumption

I made an appointment with the dealer for an oil change on my Monaco 29' B+, and told him I have used over 2 Quarts of oil (Mobil-1) in 5K miles. I was told that was not unusual. I was also told I should change my oil every 3K miles. Neither of these statements make sense to me. I think the last vehicle I had that used oil was in the 60's. Is the dealer right? Your thoughts please.
Dean
Yes it is within normal limits.
If it stops getting lower after it is a quart low your dipstick may be causing you to overfill it. If it goes to two quarts low then you know it is burning or blowing it out.

RE: blown tire collision or comprehensive

In KY hitting a tree or guard rail is a collision. Hitting a deer is comp claim so we are told to never hit a tree trying to miss a deer. :)

RE: Dash Air....R-134 or?

Think they stopped selling R12 in 92 but my memory gets a little fuzzy nowadays..:)
1992 was the last year Chevy P30's used R-12 I know for a fact.
DIY experience. If the compressor will not even try to run and it is due to low R-134a if it takes a 12 oz can to get it to run and just short cycle is that it will take two cans to cool well. Even a gas MH should not use much over three pounds if that much.
If the AC compressor is kicking off/on/off then typically one can added will do the trick.
Because could not find my adapter the other day when it was very hot I picked up one (under $20) at WM that has the gauge and trigger release. I really liked it since you can see what you are doing PSI wise.
