Adding additional batteries and new inverter.

After some help from the brain trust here I am almost ready to change out our Norcold. I have 2 questions regarding the additional batteries and new PSW inverter. I will add 2 additional batteries to the house bank to total 5. My plan is to take the battery leads and "share" them with the existing inverter and the new inverter so each inverter shares the total available power. Any problem here? Also I have chosen a Tripp-Lite RV1512UL 1500 watt inverter that has it's own on board transfer switch. I plan to share the feed going to my existing 120 panel with this new inverter so it will use 120VAC (Shore or Generator) or the 120 PSW ACV from the inverter. How do you think this will work? Thanks again for all the help so far. Dave

RE: Brakes for toad

If you want to keep it simple look at the readybrake http://www.readybrake.com/brake-systems.html We have one for our Jeep Wrangler and it works like a champ!

RE: New fridge power

ummmm I thought that might be an issue. I guess if I add 2 more batteries to make a total of 5 the 3 stage charger on the Dimension inverter will just have to charge a little longer to top them off.

RE: New fridge power

Thanks everyone for your wisdom. I guess I will try it in the existing system first and see how it holds up. I can always add the additional inverter and a couple of batteries if I need to . Kind of splits up the initial cost too. A side question.... If/when I add the additional inverter should i get an inverter/charger? Will 2 different chargers play well together?

RE: New fridge power

In my case I was able to trace back the AC line that fed the fridge and simply cut it. I used a separate 30 amp auto transfer switch and did the entire install using receptacles and plugs. This way I can patch around either the inverter or transfer switch. The inverter is mounted close to the batteries. It's all pretty basic and quite redundant ... Just in case. So you are feeding 2 separate inverters from the same battery bank, where did you pick up the gen/shore connection 120V for the dedicated inverter?

RE: New fridge power

There are people running there residentials on MSW inverters on this foreign. Personally I would add a 2000 stand alone sine wave inverter with separate transfer switch. That way it will run on shore power when in situe and on inverter power when on the road or dry camping. Easy install. not expensive. Did you tap into the AC shore connection where the original inverter is connected then a separate set of DC cables to the new inverter? That's kind of what I am thinking. I have a small bay next to my current battery bay and 2 batteries and an inverter will fit right in there. Then it's just about 8 feet to the refrigerator location.

RE: New fridge power

Would help to have more info: How many amp/hours of batteries do you now have? If you boondock a lot then #2 ( only need 1000 watts or less) plus some more batteries for it, but I'd make it an inverter/charger to help in charging the extra batteries. If you are more a FHU to FHU then #3. I currently have 3 125 AMP Hr batteries, and I will add at least 2 more and I also have a solar panel, but I don't know the wattage for it. We have not boondocked yet but you never know.

RE: New fridge power

Or just replace your cooling unit with a safe one if you want to take the easy route for $1200 I just saw posted on the Frig thread covering this question. I saw that thread. It's a shame someone has to re-invent the wheel to make it run correctly though.

RE: Best tow bar for towing Escape?

I think the best value in towbars is the ReadyBrute from NSA RV Products. They are rated to tow 8000 lbs. If you purchase this you can get a package deal to include the their supplemental breaking system which has to be one of the smartest packages of all. It's a great system and simple as hell.

New fridge power

I know this subject comes up a lot, but please bear with me. I currently have a Dimension 2000 watt MSW inverter/charger. The microwave and the current Norcold are happy with it as is the DW's laptop and all our TV's and such. My questions for the brain trust here are. 1. Should I take out the good working inverter/charger I have and replace it with a 2000 watt Pure Sine Wave inverter charger? $$$$$ 2. Keep the existing installation but add an additional PSW inverter just for the new fridge? $$$ 3. Leave everything as is and run the new fridge off the existing inverter charger. $$ 4. Don't do anything as the Norcold problems are a conspiracy to get all of us to buy expensive new refrigerators? 0$

RE: Class A Canopy Storage Unit

Our coach is probably close to the same size as yours and we purchased a 40 X 12 also. BIG MISTAKE!!! I can't even open the storage bays if it is under the canopy as they hit the vertical supports. Before buying, measure at least your overall width with the storage bay doors open. Better yet consider one wide enough that you can open your slides. If we had it to do over we would have purchased a 40 X 18 at least. Just my 2 cents worth

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Today I finished replacing the Magnadyne M9900 dash radio with a new Jensen JRV210 radio. Then I pulled the old plastic "Surge" coolant tank off and replaced it with a new steel Freightliner tank.

Allison Transmission "MODE" switch

All wise ones.....exactly is the "Mode" switch on the 6 speed Allison transmission really for? I was told it had something to do with holding speed on grades or something like that. How is it supposed to be used? Thanks

Removing front TV Itasca Horizon

Does anyone know how to remove the Sony TV in the front corner cabinet of an Itasca Horizon 40FD? It's like they built the thing from the inside out. I can't see any fasteners anywhere. Thanks

RE: Video signal switch box

My older switch box seems to have died and I'm trying to find a replacement for it that will handle cable tv, dvd, local tv and in the future satellite tv. Right now I still use the convertor box for my old analog tv but will be switching this winter hopefully. What is a good switch box to get (I tried the wingard site but they don't make them anymore)? I figured newer mh's have to use some type of switch box and maybe I could get one of those. Thanks for any input. I have placed a bid on this NIB Winegard switch. It is the only bid at$19.95 but I don't need it. If you want to bid on it go for it. Otherwise unless someone else bids on it I will just put it in a closet here at home in case mine ever dies. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-WINEGARD-ENTERTAINMENT-VIDEO-DISTRIBUTION-SWITCH-5-INPUTS-3-OUTPUTS-VS-5312-/140858072324?pt=US_Antennas_Dishes&hash=item20cbcb9d04
