RE: Windshield curtain question (real dumb).. LOL

Our curtains have a piece of matching fabric with velcro that is a tie back. We don't have a problem, but those pieces are about 5" top to bottom and do fasten fairly tightly around the curtains. Maybe something wider would help. Mine came like this also.

RE: 1992 itasca sunrise

I would check the ride height between the upper a arm and the rubber bumper below. If the lower part of the a arm is shiny it is a good indication the the ride height is low and the lower bumper is banging or resting on the lower section of the a arm. Clay posted the manual that shows a nice picture of this. If memory serves me the ride height should be 1 3/4 in. If you have the proper gap I would just realign the front end.

RE: Shhhh! Quiet that Motor - Ford F53

When I bought my MH it was noisy and my foot would get hot. It had a layer of a bubble type material about 3/8 in thick with an aluminum foil facing the eng. I added a another layer of 1/2 in jute felt material with a aluminum foil on the inside. It was inexpensive I think I bought it at Lowe's or HD and bonded it with Weldwood contact adhesive. It greatly reduced the heat and sound. I can hear the dash fan over the eng and usually drive barefoot.

RE: Few Repair/Maintance questions for new RV owner

When I checked mine with the IR gun it was 50 degrees. It has to be checked from inside the dog house and the fan clutch has to be held and re positioned to take temp readings starting at the inlet were it comes in at the top across the inside of the rad. I took readings every 2 ins paying close attention to the center of the rad where folks told me it it most likely to clog. I saw no cold spots. Many just said replace it if it is over 10 yrs old but I think the IR gun is a great way to test it. If you search Gjac you will find this more detailed.

RE: Few Repair/Maintance questions for new RV owner

I have another question that deals with the shaking tire thing? alot of you agree with checking the tires to be out of round, but i have a dumb question, if the tire is out of round then it wouldn't balance correctly, right? All 4 of the rear tires were balanced and balanced out to 0 as they should? just thought i would throw that out there. thanks Your tires maybe in balance but that does not mean they are round. The only way that they can be fixed it to true the tires, remount the tires or buy new tires. I don't know who can true the tires anymore. It entails turning the tire and shaving material off like a lathe. Did you check the tires yourself for being out of round?

RE: micro-balloons For insulation

Has anyone on this board try anything like this yet http://www.isbu-info.org/eco_insulations.htm When I first started working at an aircraft company in the early 70's micro balloons were quite common. They were cheap and made the product lighter. Strength to weight is important in aircraft structures. Any potting compounds can be mixed with both micro balloons and macro balloons. I used them for potting honey comp core for fasteners. Getting the mix right is important. I think you have a good idea for your roof. It would allow for a thicker coat without sagging or running. Use a mask when mixing and mix by hand. I would start with a 50-50 mix by volume. Beside reflecting the sun for a cooler inside temp, it would lower the cost of the acrylic or latex covering, and may also reduce out side noise. let us know how this turns out for you.

RE: water in the basement

I had a leak in my storage bay in the slide out since I bought the M/H. I tried the light inside the compartment and kept tightening the door latch. Still leaked. Finally had someone get inside and mark were the leaks were. I then bonded a seal to the door itself to help the existing seal. That finally fixed the problem. Be careful how much you adjust the door latch the Soutco ones can break as I found out.

RE: Suggestions

My two favorite hikes in Glacier NP are Ice burg Lake, and hike right outside Two Medicine CG. My favorite bike ride is a 17 mile downhill into Rocky Mtn NP campground from the highest paved road in Colorado.

RE: Few Repair/Maintance questions for new RV owner

I have a 1996 M/H on a P-30 chassis and had the similar problems. For the vibration in the seats I would also look at the roundness of the tires. Out of round tires will cause that kind of vibration and wheel balancing won't help. You can check by jacking the MH up with the wheels off the ground and put a block of wood under the tire and spin the tire and see what the gap is from the tire to the block of wood. Mine were 1/8 out of round and new tires fixed that problem. A double layer of insulation fixed the engine noise from the dog house. Headers greatly reduced the engine heat issues. I found that advancing the timing from 4 degrees BTC to 9 degrees also helped and added to the performance as well.

RE: Refrigerator vent duct fans

I think a fan mounted at the top would create a more laminar flow across the coils, one mounted at the bottom would create a more turbulent flow which I think would cool better. Both work from all the posts that I have read. I mounted mine at the bottom and am waiting for some hot weather to try it and see how much difference it actually makes.

RE: fleetwood southwind 1996 34 foot petrol chevy

Mark, your E brakes on a P-30 Chevy are drum brakes at the back of your transmission. They are shoes with a star adjuster just like on a car. The MH has to be jacked up and fully supported with blocks so the rear wheels are off the ground the wheels must be rotated so the oval opening (on the drum)is positioned to reach the star adjuster. It is at the top either 11- 1 o'clock. You can use a brake adj tool or a large flat bladed screw driver to adjust the shoes to touch when the wheels are rotated then back off slightly. While you are under there check the level of the fluid in your auto park system and that you green switch is not leaking. As far as the leaky power steering for a 16 year old MH I would try the Prestone stop leak or Eq. I have the same year a size MH and it worked for me. Good luck and make sure the MH is supported well with blocks in front and back of tires and blocks under frame in a level area.

RE: Good Sam GPS

Does anyone know how the RV specific GPS's work. What logic do they use when you input the length and weight to route your RV? Do they default to a truck route anyway? What data base would they use to differentiate between an 80k lb truck and a 30k MH?

RE: Light Usage Camping Setup...What I would do

BFL13 thanks for your incite. I just returned from a 3 day fishing trip with no electric so I will try the equalizing charge overnight.

RE: Light Usage Camping Setup...What I would do

Mena I was thinking of a small solar system before 2 more batteries if usage increased just to top of the batteries after running genset. BFL do you equalize after every trip to fully charge? Wouldn't the Magnatec 950 float charge do the same thing and be easier on the plates? I only have 6 in clearance above the batteries with no slide out so I can just fit the floating needle hydrometer from WM in there so most of the time I use the HF volt meter instead. My 950 floats at 13.4 v and I only leave it on 3 days after B&D says Full.

RE: Light Usage Camping Setup...What I would do

I guess I am in the light duty category. I have 2 Sam's Club 6 v GC batteries. I charge with a 40 amp B&D charger to Ful then let the old Magnatec 950 charger float at 5 amps for a couple of days before I go camping. This usually lasts me about 7 days before I get to 50% SOC. The 5 amp float seems to give me several more days. A week is the longest that I have stayed in on place. Water is a greater concern than AH's. After 7 days I need water and have to do laundry and recharge so I go to a private CG with these facilities or go home if camping locally. I follow all your solar threads but can't quite justify it yet because I still don't exercise my generator enough to recharge the batteries.

RE: 1995 28ft Georgie Boy, Chevy 454, P30 chassis

You received allot of things to consider. My additional advise would be to check carefully for delaminations of the out side skins. If minor around an opening they can be repaired. If major look for another MH. Check the ride height on the front coil springs If less than an inch new springs are in order. The dash can vibrate but can be fixed with additional screws and support brackets underneath. I have replaced many of the front end components due to wear but I now can drive it with one hand. Cracked exhaust manifolds can be fixed with headers which will give it more power and allow it to run cooler. I was in the same boat as you 8 years ago when I bought this MH not having owned one before. Having said all this if you are not afraid to do the work yourself these known problems can all be fixed and you will enjoy the learning experience and the trips. I have put on 70,000 miles on mine up to Alaska, out west, winter in Florida etc. Let us know what you find when you thoroughly check out the MH.

RE: Dead panel HWH Levelers

Do you have 12 v going to you panel? My 12 v supply line also has a fuse in the Chassis panel also on the drivers side fire wall marked ACC. I would check that one also.

RE: Has anyone glassed the front / rear end cap seams??

Tioga George had all of the seams on his class C fiberglassed in Mexico in 2007. http://blog.vagabonders-supreme.net/search?q=fiberglass It looks like it's held up very well. Tony what George had done in Mexico was actually layup a one piece roof to cover his old roof. This one piece roof with no seams was a continuous laminate and weighed 180 lbs. What the OP wants is to remove his Eternabond and cover just his seams with fiberglass.
