RE: Pros/Cons of an RV GPS System
We will be traveling to Alaska this summer and I'm considering buying one of the RV GPS systems such as the one from Magellan and am wondering if they are worth the cost. I have a gps system in our TV but it is limited in terms of being RV friendly. Does anyone own one of these RV gps systems and if so, do you recommend them and if so, which one would you recommend.
No, we use the tried and true old fashioned pieces of paper called maps. Maps have been in use for centuries and tend to be much more reliable than GPS. No dead batteries, loss of signal and best of all no recalculating.
I am think that going to Alaska and relying on GPS might result in some interesting "stories" from your adventures.
Folks tend to rely on GPS units a bit too much instead of reading maps and road signs...
GDE, I'm with you....God gave us a brain,so use it. Old fashioned maps for me please...what did the rv'ers use before GPS's? More dumbing down for us humans who use so called "smart technology".
RE: Downsizing to B+
Don't have any answers for you but completely understand the downsizing issue. We just finished the whole circus ourselves. Good luck and so far the downsizing has worked great for us. So easy now and it really doesn't matter 'cause we still having fun...
Less = More
RE: Well, it finally happened, got hit, but no damage
...... Don't know why he was hugging the right side of his lane, probably was distracted, or maybe just an idiot.
..... and who might have been "hugging" the left side of their lane?
Ona?....were you in Cubbies coach?.....NOT
RE: A little scary
Lee, even though its not a Ford, the same fixes should apply. The first 6 month we owned our MH, the DW was scared to death I was going to run off the road on the right side. I suggested that she look in the passenger side mirror and she could see the shoulder line was still outside of the edge of the MH.
Hubby felt fine driving...just that the steering wheel was a little sensitive..IT WAS ME that was scared !! He said I was "driving" in the passenger seat up front. And it did not help that it was pouring rain on Saturday in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana while we were driving up. I think I just need to get out of the front seat, take a chill pill, and go sit down at the table and busy myself with something other than looking at the road constantly. I will take your advice and look at the mirror
RE: A little scary
I will make a wild guess and say that it has a Ford chassis. What you are feeling is side to side roll, or waller. Early Ford F53 chassis have very soft spring rates that allow side to side roll. It may not have a rear Pan Hard bar/Track Bar either, which allows the rear axle to oscillate under the chassis in a circle. If it does have a Ford chassis, the first thing to do is check if it has a rear track bar. If not, installing one will make a big difference. Moving the sway bar links to the inner hole will give greater resistance to roll also, and does not cost anything. After these mods, adding either aux. air bags, or Timbrens to increase the spring rates. When we first got ours, I though it would turn over in slow turns, as it would lean over until it hit the bump-stops.
Not Ford chassis---it's Chevy.
A little scary
First time ever riding in a class A motorhome. I was not the driver. Went from Chicago to Florida and back. I felt so unstable in there---like everything was loosy goosy with a sensation of toppling over. Is this normal for the first few times? and will I get used to it?
RE: Are Camp Grounds Really that Safe?
I sure would like to think they are all safe, but ANYTHING can happen ANYWHERE...that being said, just be alert and use your common sense..if a place gives you the Hee-bee-gee-Bees---check out
Powderhorn Campground -- Lawrenceburg, TN
Planning a trip and this campground is about at the halfway point before our destination. Has anyone ever camped here? Thanks in advance for any replies.
RE: Dealer wants more $$ after delivery! Seriously???
He is just trying to pad his profit...We were just outright lied to by a dealer 2 weeks ago when we purchased a motorhome (lying about license requirements)...don't pay the $1,400..and write to your states attorney....I'm sure this dealership tries to pull this on others, with the hopes that someone will give in. Good Luck to you
RE: I've had enough
Don't feel bad ..and don't pay attention to the haters, naysayers and belittlers out there...sometimes you have to have "thick" skin being here and don't takes things personal....Don't leave...someone out there will need your advice or at least read what you have to say...
RE: Buyer BEWARE
I have been driving an RV for over 30 years and belong to FMCA and Holiday Rambler RV clubs. I have found less than 10% of all the members I know have the correct license for their RV. I also have the correct license for my RV. When I went to get the license I asked if it was OK to drive the RV to the testing station and the response was we don't ask how you got there. You should find the test very easy to take and in the drive part is in your RV and the tester was more interested in the RV than in the test. As a suggestion on the written part if it is taken on a computer, don't guess just skip to the next question and come back to the ones you skipped if necessary because as soon as you get 75% right you have passed. However if you get 25% wrong you have failed. Good Luck with your RV and don't worry about having the correct license and take the test at your leisure. Thank you Jim, my hubby is a little nervous about the test...you made us feel better..thanks for the tips. :)
RE: Buyer BEWARE
Not to mention trying to circumvent the forum rules against double/triple posting....DennisDennis , I did not realize that someone could not post about the same issue...I have my own account....I was just trying to forewarn people...did not mean to cause such a ruckus...don't know why this has hit a nerve with some people.
You're posting about the same issue that your HUSBAND already posted about. It's not as if you're someone completely different, for all intents and purposes you are the same owners so both of you posting up complaining about the same thing in your own separate threads has no other purpose BUT to cause a "ruckus." If you knew your husband already posted about this subject then I don't know why you felt the need to post up the same thing in a new thread. Hooligan...I work during the day when my husband posted, my hubby works evenings...i never checked his posts....so I did not know until someone said that there is a similar post from prior. If there was a problem with this, I'm sure the moderator would have said something...but he did not. And I was just trying to share info out there so other people would not be find out after the fact.... Have a good nite
Not trying to be hard on you here, just trying to make sure you understand what to expect on forums. There's no problem with you two having your own accounts, but when you're going to be posting up the same thing then keep the discussion confined to the same thread, that's all. Two threads from the same owners complaining about the same thing and trying to blame their situation on the wrong people is bound to annoy some folks... :) Salesmen are there to make a sale, they are not encyclopedias full of RV'ing knowledge. Just like insurance and speed limits, it's YOUR job to know what you, as owners, are required to have in order to be legal. It's not the salesman's fault you were given misinformation, you should have asked your state's DMV directly since they handle licenses. Your dealer has nothing to do with licensing.
Hopefully this is a lesson learned. If you want to know the truth then ask an authoritative source. :)Hooligan...I work during the day when my husband posted, my hubby works evenings...i never checked his posts....so I did not know until someone said that there is a similar post from prior.
