RE: 1150 vs. 990

Personally I would go with the 1150 for the added storage and dry bath. Your dually will be just fine.

RE: Shower fixtures - why are they so bad?

I just installed the Oxygenics Body Spa in my 5th wheel, it works great. Huge improvement over the standard shower head.

I would be careful, the dirt might be holding it together.

RE: Dealer wants more $$ after delivery! Seriously???

This thread doesn't sit well with me, but to make a long response short, I think we should all walk around with our own personal attorneys so that we don't make a mistake and get taken advantage of. Business is business.

RE: Dealer wants more $$ after delivery! Seriously???

Final resolution to this issue - after we informed the dealer that we would pay the extra $$ if they redid the contract & took out the extended warranty & GAP insurance so our payments would be about the same or a little less, the dealer got back to us & told us that they would "eat" the cost that wasn't included in the contract- that it is an expensive lesson for them to learn, but wanted us to be satisfied customers. So, all is well. We are appreciative to the company doing this.
Was it your understanding that the hitch and pin box were included in the price of the unit? Those are expensive items when u consider the labor to install. There must have been some negotiation.

RE: Dealer wants more $$ after delivery! Seriously???

We did make the decision based on price & once I had all of the facts & figures, they jives with what I thought we should be paying less the extended warranty & GAP insurance.
I noted some angry posts because I did not get back on the forum sooner - I had surgery & had to travel. Didn't mean to upset some folks here.
It would have been nice if you put the whole story in your original post, most of the responses were based on only half of the story, as we have come to find out. Garbage in, garbage out, so to speak. Otherwise, glad you worked it out.

RE: considering a F150

I know virtually nothing about these light duty pick ups but a friend of mine is considering a 2004 Lariat F150 crew cab to use to pull his little 20' travel trailer. (it's about a 6000 lb trailer that he has been pulling, without issue, with an old Safari van) I am wondering what kinds of things he should consider. Is the '04 F150 a good year or should I encourage him to look at a newer trucks? Are there engine options that should be avoided? Anything else?
5.4 with 3.73 gears, no problem.

RE: Electric Heater

I kind of like this idea, more custom. Why should someone who uses very little power pay as much as someone sitting there running everything but the kitchen sink all day, including two ac's, micro, marguerita machine, coffee maker, fake fireplace, 80 inch flat screen etc.? One size doesn't fit all.

RE: I hate this mattress!

Foam Factory. Custom order a sized sheet of Lux Regular Foam, maybe 2" will do, pretty firm stuff. Then put a memory foam or egg crate topper on it.

RE: Renting your personal travel trailer

Personally I would not consider it. However, I knew someone who owned two motorhomes and rented them out. I think he used them when needed, but really bought them just to rent out.
Just be selective and require a security deposit...motivates people to take care of it. I would also videotape the unit inside and out prior to every trip.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

Maybe you can ask for a refund of your deposit less a reasonable fee. Dealers have to understand that people sometimes make mistakes. Otherwise, if the dealer will not work with you, sell the unit, take the hit, and get something you are comfortable with. You probably won't lose that much. Anyway, you can get a cheaper unit to make up for your loss....life goes on. Then you can let everyone know how you were treated by this dealer all over the internet forums, they don't have to like it, it's a free country and last I checked, the first amendment still stands. If the dealer doesn't like it, tough, they could have worked with you for a win/win situation.
I was in a similar situation, bought a SUV for wife, she wanted to return it, and dealer gave us full credit toward another vehicle on the lot. No big deal, really, and no complaints. Dealer didn't really have to do this, and I ended up buying two more vehicles from that dealer over the next few years.
Ok, just read your update, the dually idea is probably good money spent, at least you get something out of it. Good call.

RE: Best truck to tow with

Personally I would get a 5.9 HO Cummins with the old 48RE. If the tranny broke, rebuild it to be indestructible.

RE: Superhitch / Rack Combination?

How about this:
http://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/Curt/D210.html?feed=npn&gclid=CIC776GR-bUCFVSVMgodtmIABg
and slide the tray in from the back? Might make the tray too close to the bottom of the camper, maybe a custom fabrication\variation? This is how I would approach it.
