RE: Dodge, Truck Camper and Spare

Our '06 Dodge dually 4X4 spare will come out with the SnowRiver 10-2 on board but a rachet makes it a lot easier than 1/2 turn at a time.

RE: Access to wheel well area from outside?

Ford had one with a side door
for the spare and a set back
axle
Yes Ford did. I bought a New 1975 Ford F-350 single rear wheel "Super Camper Special". It was equipped with 12X16.5 rear wheels and 10X16.5 on the front. The passenger side of the bed had a panel that held the spare and jack. I don't recall the wheelbase but it was extended. It was a great camper truck!

RE: Pacific Rim Volcano Road Trip

Great trip and report. We've done a like trip but in segments. The sign of the Black Bear in Shasta brings back great memories of good food and happy times with daughter and family who live just up the road. Thanks

RE: RV parks

About 15 years ago we took our horses to the Black Hills. As I pulled into a KOA, an older gentleman came out and ask if I was looking to camp. I replied yes, likely for a couple weeks. He introduced himself as the vendor for the dude string at the camp and suggested if I'd like to stay at his place on the back of the campground I could do so for $5 per horse per day, and camp for free. We stayed 12 days and met 5 or 6 other families doing the same. Fast forward 13 years. Coming back from California with 3 grandkids and DW it was late PM when DW suggested we stay in same KOA. The normal campground had grown from 250+/- sites to more than 400. Dude string was still there but trailered in every day. Major water park now in place. Oh, the price was I think $89 per night. And yes, 1 night was quite enough.

RE: cost of super hitchs,

I bought a new superhitch for my '06 Dodge a couple years ago and paid $495 for just the hitch. I had a 24" extension bought in '04 that I think I paid $375. While these were new prices I'm sure they've gone up. Have you checked E-bay?

RE: When in need of a tow truck...

I guess I've run the gamut. Started with AAA and went to 1 ton truck. AAA said they wouldn't service anything with greater payload than 11,000 lbs and no horse trailers. Then to USRider. Great company and they will service anything, cars, trucks, RVs any type trailer. Then I joined Good Sam. Good for some but they wouldn't consider a flat on a horse trailer. It's not in any of their literature so I had to learn the hard way. So I returned to USRider. They have provided great service on everything I own at a very reasonable cost. I highly recommend them for anyone that pulls, hauls or drives.

RE: 17 Oaks asked a question... my stand alone answer

17oak, Sleepy gave you the best advise you'll ever get. If you keep up with the maintenance, you may get slowed down but not likely stopped dead in the water. In the 20+ years of TCing, I've had some issues but never completely dead. Before you retire: work every hour you possibly can, put the extra $$$ in a vacation fund or emergency fund. You'll enjoy it a whole lot more when it's " How about a trip to XXXX for a few days".

RE: Dicor solvent?

I worked with Dicor this morning. Mineral Spirits worked better than the acetone I tried first?

RE: Anyone know this body?

I put an ALUM-LINE aluminum flatbed with side boxes, not as fancy as this, and a 5th wheel plate on my dodge and it weighed 230 lbs more than the factory pickup box. Aluminum may be easier to clean an look at but if it's strong you likely won't save much weight because of additional bracing and structural components. At least that's been my experience.

RE: raising camper to clear truck roof

I used 2X4's with 1/2 plywood and topped it off with a 3/4 rubber stall mat from TSC. That made close to 3". Worked great for me.

RE: did the anti sway bar make the difference?

I've put swaybars on last 2 trucks. 1st was a Roadmaster 2" replacing a 1" factory unit on 04' Ford. It made a huge difference. Last truck was only 1 1/8"as that was as big as I could find at the time for 06' dodge. The dodge didn't have one from factory but the difference was great but not as drastic as the big honker on the ford.
