RE: CrossRoads Cruiser & Open Range
We have had two Crossroads Cruisers...a TT first and have had our 5'er for 3 years... I can honestly tell you we have never had any major problem with our Cruiser and have been more than pleased. We will be parting with our 5'er within the next 2 weeks ONLY because we are seriously downsizing, but if we didn't strongly desire that, we would keep our Cruiser for many, many years and if we were ever to return to a large camper again, Crossroads would be at the top of our list.
RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA
Hopefully you guys have bikes and can ride the island is not very big.
There are 20 miles of paved bike trails on Jekyll Island.
RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA
Yes, ya'll are right...the Georgia Coast is nothing but bugs, polluted beaches and total boredom...PLEASE stay away so those of us who love it can have it all to ourselves. :B:B Just Joking.
RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA
The no-see-ums were the worst we've ever seen, and this was even after evening spraying. We much prefer the South Carolina coast or northern Florida, but this is our personal preference.
I also like Hunting Island but I was attacked there by sand fleas worse than I've ever been in my life with bug spray and in northern Florida, we thought the mosquitoes were going to carry us away...my only point is, there are bugs everywhere along the coast.
RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA
Where Kennedy was married? Get a dose of real.
wow, that was kinda rude..especially since Cumberland Island is where they got married.
RE: Vogel or Hunting Island SC?
That's a tough choice...I love both parks very much...both the mountains and beach would be good this time of the year...can't go wrong with either choice...have fun either way.
RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA
Jekyll is a yearly destination for us, we love it. I highly recommend touring the Historic District...so much history and it's just beautiful....also, we enjoy the Sea Turtle Center. We always enjoy going to the pier at Clam Creek, we always see people riding horses on driftwood beach. We have been going for many years and have personally never seen any signs about "pollution"....as far as restaurants, we feel the ones on nearby St. Simons Island are better and you can also visit the St. Simons Lighthouse, the Village, Fort Frederica, etc...there are some good restaurants on Jekyll, however....as far as the campground, we think the Jekyll campground is pretty because it is draped in Live Oak Trees, but my personal opinion is that the sites are too close together..if you don't mind that, it is a nice, quiet campground...we don't camp when we go now but did several times in the past....nearby "Blythe Island County Park" has a terrific campground and is only a few minutes from Jekyll. As far as the parking fee for Jekyll, you can get a 3-day pass and come and go on and off the island as many times as you like...also someone mentioned Denny's :) it is no longer there...and it is true there is no longer a gas station on Jekyll so gas up before getting there....someone else mentioned going to Cumberland Island...something we haven't done yet but plan on it for sure. There is plenty to do in the area. We just returned from Jekyll 2 weeks ago and cannot wait to go back. Be sure and bring your bicycles !! Miles of bike trails all around the island.
RE: jayco 23J
I agree...I don't have a 23J, but did spend a good bit of time in one recently at the dealership....the sofa was a little short for me laying down, I am 5'10"...but the dinette was plenty big enough for me....the 23J is a great camper, great floorplan.
RE: Henderson Beach SP sites
I agree, the entire campground is great...personally I didn't think there was a bad site there. We had a back-in and it was huge.
RE: Expandable vs. travel trailers
We have had a pop-up, a HTT, a TT and a 5'er....when we parted with our Hybrid, it had nothing to do with the tent ends...that was our favorite part....at the time we felt like we needed more room, so we went bigger and bigger, with much regret. We are now going back to a Hybrid. The reason we are going back to a hybrid is because we wanted to stay around 21', and we have yet to find a 21' TT that felt roomy inside...that's just our opinion. The hybrid floorplan we are getting is roomier in the living area than our 31' 5th wheel(minus the large bedroom upstairs of course). And for the record, we never had leak issues in our previous hybrid(and I never fell out or felt I may be kidnapped). But again, our reason for going with the hybrid again is because we want a roomy camper and not anything that feels cramped up. Everyone has different tastes. The few times we came home in rain, setting the tent ends up was not a big deal, we are fortunate to be able to keep our camper in our yard...but I suppose for someone who may keep it somewhere other than home, it might not be ideal. All campers have positives and negatives.
RE: Favorite Soup/Stew Recipes
We really LOVE this soup..so easy to make and it's yummy
HEARTY LASAGNA SOUP
1 1b. ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
2 cans ITALIAN STYLE diced tomatoes(the Italian style is important)
4 cups Beef Broth
1 1/2 cups noodles(penne, elbow, corkscrew...whichever you prefer)
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/4 tsp. dried parsley flakes
1/4 tsp. dried Italian Seasoning flakes
Cook ground beef, onion, bell pepper, garlic and parsley until meat is done....Drain...Stir in broth, tomatoes and italian seasoning. Heat to a boil. Stir in pasta noodles. Cook for about 10 minutes on medium heat or until noodles are tender. Stir in cheese and add more on top if desired.
RE: Crossroads Entering Hybrid Market
Hey all, as a Crossroads owner we have been very pleased with the service our RV has given us thusfar. I see some people switching away from 5th wheels and travel trailers back to easier to tow HTT's. Crossroads (well known 5th wheel company) plans to enter the market this fall.
Greeeeeat...just what I needed to hear :) It figures, just as soon as we order, this comes out.
It will be interesting to see if these actually come out....Remember Crossroads was coming out with the new ultralight "slingshot" and there was a press release about it, but it never even appeared on their website that I saw....then for a very short time, they were advertising little "mini-Sunset Trails" that were 18ft-21ft and they are already gone from the website...so it will be interesting to see if they actually produce the Hybrids...I would have certainly been interested in them, as we have loved both of our Crossroads Cruisers(except for size :E) Oh well, we still feel very good about our Starcraft purchase.
RE: Desoto State Park Alabama
We were there in April...it is a terrific State Park and the whole area is very pretty...we will surely be back !! Glad you had fun.
RE: Bye Bye Big 5'er, Hello Hybrid
Yes, we are buying from PECO....we had a great experience with PECO when we bought our first camper so we feel good about buying from them again. We were orginally looking at the Jayco 21M in Conyers since Jayco has the 2-year warranty...but in the end, after trade-in, PECO came out at almost $3k less, so it was easy to make our decision and get the Starcraft from PECO. The sales prices were about the same at both dealers, it was the trade-in value of our current camper that made the difference in price.
RE: Bye Bye Big 5'er, Hello Hybrid
Thanks !! Yes, we love that year-round camping here in the south, it's wonderful....like many, we went bigger and bigger and I am sure there are MANY who made the move and couldn't be happier, however we are NOT one of them...we are weekend campers only with the occasional 4-day trip and that is it..we have no problem admitting that we got "lured in" with all the home-like fancy campers that they make....and I think they are FANTASTIC for the family that gets to spend a significant amount of time camping or for the full-timer and I would never knock that !!! But that is just not our lifestyle....although we don't regret the experience(thankful we learned it at a "some-what" young age:B...He's 43, I'm 39), we have come to realize that we do NOT...I repeat, Do NOT want to spend our golden-years maintaining some big-rig, we would rather have a small camper with minimal maintenance...I'll be perfectly honest, after 3 years I still have never been comfortable with owning a "big-rig"(and ours is SMALL compared to most) and have many times said "Oh My, What have we done" :B:B......I just can't wait to get back to a normal sized camper !! The "Big Rig" just isn't us...and I'm also not ashamed to admit, it's been an expensive lesson learning that !!
RE: 2009/2010 Starcraft or Jayco Owners---Beds
Found out today, this won't be an issue....didn't realize that on today's hybrids, the whole screen unzips also and not just the solid material piece(hope that makes sense)...when we had our Hybrid years ago(year 2000), the screen itself did not unzip, just the solid piece unzipped and the screen part was permanently attached....so no worries if I need to access the mattresses from outside....I know many don't do this, we just always found it easier to attach the sheet with one person inside and one person out.
Bye Bye Big 5'er, Hello Hybrid
We are very excited..We ordered our 2010 Starcraft 217RBSS today(basic twin Jayco 21M & ROO 21SS)...we are so happy to be getting back to a hybrid...we started in a pop-up, then had a Starcraft HTT for 6 years, then a TT and have had a 31' 5th wheel for 3 years....we are SO ready to part with this big thing !! Out of all the campers, our hybrid was the one we enjoyed the most...so many things we look forward to getting back to, the bunk ends, fitting into any campsite, easier to wash the outside, easier to clean inside and not feel like I have a 2nd house to clean, a smaller truck, and the list goes on and on. Now the hard part, waiting 6-8 weeks for it to arrive.....we are buying from the same dealer we bought our 1st Starcraft Travelstar 21RBS from several years ago.....so after making the loop from a HTT to a TT and then a 5'er, we think it's neat that we'll be leaving that same dealer with a new Starcraft Travelstar...one we truly hope to keep for many years to come..We can't wait !!
