RE: VA's new Blood Glucose meter

Welcome to the world of socialized medicine, where the government knows best. Could these experiences foretell what another much discussed medical program could have in store for us?

RE: DirecTV Lawsuit

Seems to me the Washington AG has it about right. I'm glad to see he has the stones to take on these hoods. If more of the states followed suit, contracts would be a lot simpler. It might even be possible to force these birds to actually provide information you could use to make a reasonable decision on, instead of having to do a doctoral thesis research project first.

RE: “Don’t be a Lurker” pop up very annoying

Download Firefox and then Adblock. I never get the banner ads or popups unless I want to let them through.

RE: Boat towing

As said, a lot of folks do it, but I saw a very nice class A in the water up to the windows in Canyon Lake Arizona, and a nice class C well wetted down in the Colorado River waiting for the tow truck. You have to do it EXACTLY right every time, but it only takes one time wrong to cost $50k or more. I gamble, but not on those odds.

RE: Help identifying these two places

Don't know about the pix, but I had a 71 Travelall 2010. A pullin' fool. Had the standard International 345 heavy duty V8, and was as tough as they come. I once put 50 sheets of 4X8 1/2" drywall in ours and was able to close the tailgate and rear window. I worked my way through college as a truck mechanic on International trucks. Just loved 'em.

Firefox with Adblock. Only lets those through that you want to let through. Keeps all the tracking cookies out that IE Explorer insists on placing as well.

RE: I-10 shutdown for inspections?

As said, a fact of life in the southwest. I'm pleased as hel* they're doing it. When the lines get really long they'll usually start waiving you through unless they're looking for something or someone special. Nice folks doing a tough job in what could be a dangerous area. I'll show them anything they want. All they have to do is ask.

RE: Tire expiration dates

Yep, just make it clear what you'll accept from the get-go. I just bought a 22.5 Michelin for the bus and after I told the dealer I'd be checking the date on the tire before purchase, he said he'd order a "fresh" one for me. On pickup he had it laid out, date up, for me to see. Those who are specific on what they want, get it. Those who don't know or care get ??!??!!!.

RE: That PopUp!

I'm not sure what browser you're using, but I use Firefox and have installed Adblock. I don't see any popups, banner ads or anything else obnoxious. You might consider it.
I understand the drive to make money from these sites, but when this causes the site to be more frustrating than the information is helpful, the only choices are to block the junk or leave. I'm doing the first and in the process of doing the second. You might consider http://www.irv2.com/forums/

RE: Walmart

WillieB's got it right. We hit a similar WM at Red Deer, AB. The manager told us that despite the doomsday signs, whoever asked to stay overnight was immediately granted permission, but others were asked to leave by the local law enforcement. He said they reported those who didn't ask because they tended to homestead, and the signs gave them the option to remove whoever they needed to without issue.
Generally, be a good neighbor and good things happen if it is possible. Where local laws require other action, WM is stuck with it like we are.

RE: Digital version of a VCR?

If you're not too concerned about digital quality pictures, you can use your old VCR. The only thing you need is the converter box we needed last year. Hook the box to the antenna on the in line, and the out line to the VCR. This changes the digital signal to analog, which the VCR is looking for. Since most TV's can still operate on an analog input, the TV will play the VCR signal output fine.

RE: class a ( short 26' pursuit ) front wheels stuck in trench.

Sounds like a plan. Whatever you do, be sure the front wheels are straight before you try to pull it. I'd dig out some behind the front wheels to give it a bit of a ramp (at least 3-4' and try putting 2x8 or larger for the front wheels to run on. I've always found the safest way to pull in a case like this is to use your tractors as a dead man and pull with come-alongs, a differential chain hoist, or even a mechanical farm tractor jack. If necessary, deadman one tractor to another. Use chains rather than rope or cable and pull slow and easy. You might have to dig under so as to clear behind the front axle as it may be below the edge of the ditch too. A messy job for sure, but do-able.
Been there, done that! LOL We had to dig the BUS out of the Homer, AK Spit beach this summer.

RE: Direct TV in Canada

The biggest issue in receiving DirecTV is the altitude of the satellites. We have used a standard dome as far north as Juneau. Most domes and dishes will only depress to 15-18 degrees above the horizon. With a bit of help we got full DirecTV service, including HD, in Valdez and Glennallen this summer. We used a Winegard 3005 Trav'ler and put a penny in the pinch point of the LNB arm. The dish is nowhere near a 30". Signal strength was 75 up.

RE: Walmart

Wal Marts get 1-4 (or more) tractor trailer loads of food and merchandise a day, every day. I GUARANTEE there's a way in. We always ask before staying in a WM lot and seldom get a turn down, gates or no.

RE: Take cash on cruise?

Be sure to notify your credit card company if you intend to use the card out of the country. Some will refuse foreign charges even if in US $$ as a way to cut down fraud. Just protecting you, but it could be a pain if you're unprepared.

Smartest move you'll ever make. Good luck. Tiffin finally got the word and are NOW using them on the new Busses. I had to put my own in. Not a big deal but they should have figured that one out sooner.

Sounds like a starter solenoid to me, with both switches acting the same. But I'd try Homer's suggestion first. Less grease on the hands that way.

RE: Somewhat OT: Alaska Cruise Experts?

Look up a company called Tauck Tours at Tauck.Com. They have been in business since the 1920's and NEVER ADVERTISE ANYWHERE. They use word of mouth and travel agents. We took a small boat tour with them in the inside passage and loved it. Only 120 on the boat. They also have interior tours. We've used these folks in Europe twice and also Canada. You're not one of the thundering herd with these people.
My highest recommendation for a tour. ps: we've driven up 3 times in the last 4 years too.
