RE: How can I take both my toys, Wrangler & Harley

No, actually, I just looked--that IS, in fact, what the owners' manual says on my Jeep! Using the same T-case (NV231), it would hold true for any non-Rubicon Wrangler and any non-Quadra-Trac ZJ or WJ Grand Cherokee.

RE: Giving up land line

I dumped my land line as soon as I could...my broadband DSL was CHEAPER than land line + dialup service! The last year, I almost never used it. I don't miss it at all.

BFGoodrich is Michelin, I don't know about uniroyal though.
Same company...when bought by Michelin, it was technically "Uniroyal-Goodrich".

RE: 1977 Xplorer 307 Xtrava

Chassis is PROBABLY a Dodge M300. A good part store (NAPA, usually) that sells TRUCK parts can probably help you there.
17.5" tires might be tough to find and pricey if you do.

Oops sorry guys I was wrong...
She is a 1982
A little older but still a pretty girl..IMO
I looked at the title and I found the correct info
It might be a 1983 coach on a 1982 chassis...VERY common, if so.

RE: Tires

The NHTSA states that rubber degradation increases exponentially after 5 years primarily from ozone. Tires should be inspected regularly regardless of age and have more frequent inspection at 5 years. Tires should be replaced at the first signs of problems developing.
And yet, NOBODY has any real limit on tire age! Not the NHTSA, not the DOT, not even the FAA! Yes, the FAA is fine with 20-year-old tires (capped 4-5 times) on the 757 you flew on! The DOT is fine with 15 year old tires on a school bus or a gasoline tanker!

RE: Tire suggestions for 25' coach

Wouldn't use Michelins if you gave them to me...I'd rather have 6 different brands of 7-year-old Chinese tires.
Assuming it uses the typical 235/85R16E tires, I would use these on the rear. I would probably use a rib tire (quite possibly the Goodyear Workhorse or Bridgestone Duravis, though the Nankang Geo-Trac is tempting) on the front.

UPS doesn't care. They would RATHER a driver get a parking ticket than take the time to drive around back.

RE: How to check for previous "tuner" on a used truck?

It's pretty easy to tell on all the newer diesel, even the 6.0. You simply pull up the date of the last re-flash, and if the firmware version at that last re-flash wasn't available from Ford at the time of re-flash, then it means it was "restored" from a tuner.
I had a low-mile 6.0 Excursion in my shop for one of my dealer customers, fresh from auction. It needed the full Head-Gasket and both coolers, but with the bad head gasket, unknown full history, and being unable to verify compression, I had to tell them it may need a full replacement. With the diagnostics printout (AutoIngenuity) they were able to get the auction company to buy it back because it was sold as "stock" at the auction.
OTOH - one of my friends took his EcoBoost in for the intercooler update. This involved a re-flash, but they didn't tell him first. He was running a 5-star tune. He called them to ask why the truck ran different after the intercooler, and they apologized for re-flashing without telling him, and gave him a free oil change for the inconvenience of having to re-load the 5-star. So... apparently Ford isn't cracking down on tuner on that motor (yet).
That Excursion sounds like a great candidate for DESTROKING...

RE: Overnighting somewhere ner Boston

There are a couple of rest areas on 495 near the NH line (Chelmsford, IIRC) that allow overnighting. Further south, there's the rest area in Mansfield on I-95 just south of the 495 interchange.

RE: Caterpillar Diesel

Yeah, you might be right if the ones you're looking at have more than 500,000 miles....anything less than that you should be good to go.
Joking aside they are awfully good engines although I've heard some reports that the ACERT models had a few problems. I sure do like our 425 hp C-12.
We have four C7's at work, two failed, none with more than 160,000 miles! One failed catastrophically (threw a rod), one had to be in-framed due to having no compression. We also had another need an IP and all 6 injectors with ~150K, about a $4500 whack!

RE: Excessive Vet costs?

Thanks Dr Doug!
I thought the Banfields were franchises, didn't realize they were corporate owned. That explains a lot.
I did get an estimate, they quoted me $203.22 (and I paid that up front when I dropped her off). When I went back to get her they charged me another $752.00. They also pulled one of her teeth that was cracked (not with my approval!) and did a dental exam for which they charged me $300.00. I see online that the dental exam charges are supposed to include anesthesia, so I wound up paying for that twice - once included in the dental and another $260.00 for the anesthesia for the sutures. (I did not approve the dental exam or the tooth extraction- that had just been done about 6 months ago by our old vet) They claim that they tried to call me for authorization but my phone was in my pocket and never rang.
I also required about 25 stitches from this same incident. My stitches cost a total of $185.00, (no anesthesia) and that was at Mayo Clinic!
Banfield is a corporation, the individual vets most likely are employees and have little input as to prices, what is done, how it is done and charged and ultimate cost to you.
Just a couple of comments (I can't resist). There is no such thing as a little anesthesia. Maybe short in time, but invariably things that go wrong do so at the start. Many of the costs are the same whether it's 5 minutes or 60 minutes (preop blood work, catheter, induction drugs, inbutation,). About the only variables with time are related to personnel costs and inhalation anesthetic supplies.
That being said, last Friday I had a laceration in a geriatric patient with a severe heart condition that we thought couldn't withstand a general anesthetic. I did a local (very nice Chi believe it or not :B), cleaned the wound and placed about 15 staples. With pain meds and antibiotics she went home MUCH less that $1000.
Always request an estimate in writing before agreeing to any surgical or involved lab or medical procedure. If your vet doesn't provide it or cops an attitude, walk.
Doug, DVM
Did you pay with a credit card? If so, dispute the charge! You were, indisputably, ripped off.

AT a guess: the tune and any aftermarket parts were removed before sale.

RE: Is there a cure for a smelly washing machine.....

Shortly after my new bride moved into my house, my top load washer started leaving the clothes with a stinky musty smell. It was an older machine and I figured that maybe it was just tired and possibly leaking oil into the tub. I bought a new, top of the line top loader and within a couple of months it was doing the same thing.
The service guy came out and the first thing he asked was what temperature setting were we using for the wash and rinse cycles. I had always used warm/warm or hot/worm as my clothes were often wuite dirty from my work. When I asked my bride who was now doing most of the laundry, she said she always used cold/cold to save money and that the detergent said that it was good for cold water.
The service tech strongly suggested using at least warm/warm as the cold rinse water was not completely getting rid of the soap scum from the drum. Sure enough, after a couple of loads using warm water there was no hint of the musty smell.
A couple of years later, we bought a new home that had top of the line front load washer and dryer. Shortly after I noticed that the clothes were starting to stink. She was using the default temp setting of cold/cold. I switched it to warm/warm and never had a problem again.
Many washers (including mine) no longer offer anything but a cold rinse! :(

I figure I'll be working the 5th...off the 4th. I think Liz is working the 4th...it's her birthday, but with me working the 5th (meaning: up at 4am), doing anything that day isn't practical.
