RE: Longview teen badly burned while siphoning gas.

Neither have I. Must have been an older car because for the past few years, you cannot siphon gas out of the tank with a hose. There is a screen type of thingy in the pipe to stop siphoning. Hardly new...my 1979 Cadillac had one, so does my 1979 F-350.

RE: Attention: early PSD Ford people

I dont want to go out and buy a magazine but................. I had a 96 F350 PSD, and had a Banks intercooler installed, the only problem I had was the blasted hose blew off where they conected to the intake to the block, because of to much boost. what did the article say? maybe you could condence it down for all of us. Just got it, haven't read it yet. It's in my car and I'm in my pajamas...so I won't be reading it tonight. :D

RE: Attention: early PSD Ford people

The first factory turbo diesel was a 1993, I had ATS install my intercooler. It gave me about one gear improvement. That wasn't a PSD...that was an IDI-turbo, the same as my 92 (though mine wasn't intercooled). First PSD was mid-1994.

Geez, it's only a Taurus. Could be worse: check the driveway across the street. :)

Attention: early PSD Ford people

Grab the latest issue of Diesel Power: they have a troubleshooting guide for the 7.3 PSD, and an installation of an intercooler on a pre-Super Duty F-350 (I think a 1996).

Flaming of fellow moderators that willingly DONATE their time to this forum will get this thread or any other shut down faster that than you can swat a wasp off the end of your nose.........:B Yeah, because moderators are SO overworked...that must be why so many have given up that status... RE: Selling my bus...?

I am very surprised that a 1984 would not have PS. I have been driving school buses since 1960 and I don't think I saw anything without PS since the late 60s. All of those frames between windows go from the frame around to the other side of the frame. The kids are well protected in case of an accident. The bus is one of the safest vehicles on the road. My only problem would be that I wouldn't feel retired. I am still a sub driver. Unusual, but I've seen a 1988 (International S1700 chassis, gas 345 with an Allison, Carpy body) with manual steering.

RE: Selling my bus...?

Did you fabricate lower storage ? Yes (well, a friend did)...I have full bays on both sides, as well as a spare tire carrier & battery tray.

RE: For Those Of Us Who Mod Our Diesels

Here is a question for the don't test my truck crowed, why do you think it is OK for your truck to drive down the road pouring out black smoke? Don My wife's Blazer smokes under hard acceleration, pretty heavily in cold weather. It has a 130HP 6.2 Detroit, 100% box-stock except aftermarket exhaust. My truck sometimes smokes, especially in cold weather and pulling a trailer. Again, the engine is a low-power 5.9 Cummins, 100% box-stock from a newspaper van. Well then John may I make a suggestion then, STAY OUT OF CALIFORNIA because you won't like them. Also "sometimes" is not what this law is for, it is aimed at the commercial vehicles and "poorly maintained" vehicles. If your vehicle falls into this segment, then park it until it is repaired. Don Both are running perfectly, according to experienced mechaincs...the Blazer has a new IP and 8 new injectors. Quite simply: pre-turbo diesels SMOKE, and 12V 5.9 Cummins diesels SMOKE. Old 2-stroke Jimmys SMOKE. There isn't much that can be done about any of them.

RE: Buy or run for the hills? w/Pics

Looking at it again, that's not a city truck...I'd bet serious money it's a hotshotter's tow rig (note the sleeper!), and is a highway runner. Not sure why I think this, but I'd almost bet it's on a Chevy C3500 (or possibly a P30/P32) chassis. Considering that...454 power, maybe?

I've seen & driven MDT's with 6-bolt wheels. And hey, don't knock the 5.9 Cummins! Second-best MDT engine ever built!

RE: For Those Of Us Who Mod Our Diesels

I have been watching the CARB site and talking to a few of the Tech's that have been trained for smog checks. For the inspection piece they will be visually inspecting it to see if there are mods. If they find one they will check to see if it is on the CARB approved list. The only issue he sees is the smoke test as it is subjective. Basically he looks at the tailpipe, and determines if he can see excessive smog with the engine at a predetermined RPM, between 5 and 15 feet for more than 3 seconds without dissipation. He said that is subjective as there are no measurements, it is up to the inspector and what they see. There is no OBDII connection made by the machine, they just look to see if the check engine light is on. For those out of state, I doubt you will see enforcement unless you are throwing up a smoke screen as you drive and get someones attention. The primary area of enforcement will be at permanent and temporary roadside scales, neither of which I go through. Again: my wife's Blazer pours out a smoke cloud...just pulling away from a light (which requires plenty of pedal in this underpowered truck) will give a puff of smoke. Merging onto the highway results in a big cloud. After a few hours of low-speed use (city traffic, snowplowing, off-road trailriding, the first hard acceleration will result in a massive smoke cloud. The IH Genesis (school bus) I might buy also smokes...if it acts like every other mechanical DT466 I've seen, it pours out a white cloud on startup, puffs black smoke anytine the fuel pedal is pressed (though the 30+ feet of exhaust pipe might mitigate this), and gives off a considerable cloud under hard acceleration. This is, again, a 100% box-stock engine.

RE: Washers/Dryers in rv's

That is a good question. I have seen some that forbid electric heaters in your camper. Anyone else see limited use of electricity in camp ground? I have a couple electric baseboards in my bus...never been to a place that forbade them. However, I've seen a couple that would pop fuses if you tried. :(
