RE: Ford or GM?

I currently own a 2005 Ford F450 with the 6.0 diesel engine, bought it used at 50,000 miles. Luckily it still had the factory warranty on it, because it needed head gaskets along with a new oil and egr cooler. Since then no problems, but it dose show that what can happen even with a low mileage truck. If you find a nice ford truck that you like, you can go to the dealer with the vin number and try to get an oasis report. This will tell you all of the work done at the dealership on the truck. Here are couple of sites that have allot of information on these trucks. Good luck on you search. http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ http://www.ford-trucks.com/ford-diesel.html

RE: Modding an F-350 up or an F-550 down for TC

A C&C would be a cab and chassis truck, you get a finished cab with an exposed frame out the back. You get the option of finishing the truck your self, flat bed, stake bed, work bed etc. Or a pick up bed. I have an 2005 F450 C&C DRW that was completed as a pickup truck this is considered a medium duty truck. It has the 19.5" wheels on it. A good sturdy platform for carrying a heavy truck camper.

RE: F350 6.0 -- help!

I purchased a 2005 F450 with only 50,000 miles on it and had the same issues along with head gaskets. Lucky for me it was still under warranty. Here is a link with a lot of good information on the 6.0 http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/. The first upgrade I did was to install an engine monitor so I could watch the coolant and oil temps. This will give you an idea about the condition of the coolers. It is a good engine with a bad reputation for all the problems it has had. Have the dealer do a coolant flush before installing the new coolers. This will help to get the junk out of the system.

RE: considering moving from my 3500 to a 4500, need some advice

I have a ford f450 with the 19.5 wheels. What I found is that these are really not good for off road/sand conditions. You cannot air these down like other tires for soft conditions. Do a search on 19.5 tires and you will find these are great for highway but not for soft off road conditions. I have a highway style tread pattern, there are more aggressive tires. But I have no experience with them.

RE: Insurance

I have AAA on the truck and tried to use them for the camper. They came out took a bunch of photos to send to the underwriters. A bill arrived in the mail for the additional premium but they did not send a policy with it. I called them to find out exactly what was covered on the camper and they could not tell me, there response was it is the same as the truck. I said ok send me something in writing and they said it covered in the truck policy, I told them it is not listed on the truck policy. They seemed unsure what to do with a truck camper.

RE: Towing A Jeep Redux.

I have a 05 F450 CC DRW flat towing a built up 98 Jeep tj. I have towed this with an Artic Fox 1150 and with without it before I install a brake buddy in the jeep. Without the brake buddy you could feel the jeep trying to climb the back of the camper during quick stops. What really convinced me to get an extra braking system was when I was towing the jeep without the camper down a hill in a light rain. As I drove into a tight right hand turn the jeep pushed the rear of the jeep toward the center line causing the rear tires to brake loose. Now my truck has 19.5" commercial tires on it that are pretty hard and not the best thing for traction on wet roads. After installing the system you do not feel the jeep when braking, it no longer climbs the back of the camper or pushes the truck when driving. You should check with the DMV I believe brakes are required in CA on towed vehicles over a certain weight. Maybe not behind a heavy class a. It was not allot of money to find a used system and easy to install and remove.

RE: Thermostat replacement

I think your gray wire should be hooked up as follows. R terminal (24 volt +)is the red wire. G terminal (fan) is the green wire. Y terminal (cooling). C terminal (common/neutral) is the black wire This should operate the air conditioning. The last two wires should operate the furnace. W terminal (Heat) is the white wire. The second black wire is the common/neutral for the furnace. When I am not sure about is the 2 red and black you mentioned. Are they part of a third cable?
