RE: Discolored Shower

There was a thread a couple days ago about yellowing plastic trim on the exterior door window and a few folks suggested using a product called Awesome. I think it's at like Wal Mart, Dollar Stores, Menards, etc. Might want to give that a try.

RE: Repairing Cracked AC Covers

I read somewhere that if you get a crack in plastic, in order to keep it from spreading, drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack and that will usually stop it from continuing to spread. Still go the repair route, but I'd drill a small hole at the ends of the cracks to keep them from getting bigger over time.

RE: Tire changing block storage

speaking from experience this season, ditch the block and go with a set of Lynx blocks. I have 2 sets in my front storage compartment and use them to level at the CG's and last month when a tire blew out on the way to the CG, it was second nature to grab the blocks and make a ramp to pull the good tire up on. Just make sure you break the lug nuts loose on the flat tire before you pull up on the blocks (ask me how I know this.... ha!). Having limited storage space in the trailer, if I can turn an item into a multi-use item, all the more reason to have it. If you're set on lugging around a block, then some bungy cords on the tongue should hold it down for ya.

RE: Cooking and Baking with a Conventional Oven in a 23B

Like was mentioned, I picked up about 9 4"x4" glazed ceramic backsplash tiles from Home Depot for less than a buck a piece. I can fit about 6 in there and still allow room for heat to circulate. I just have to remember to take them out and stow them before we break camp. Makes a big difference in heat distribution and cutting down on the middle of the oven hot spot.

RE: Roo exterior outlet -- am I missing something?

my outside outlet is wired inline with one of the GFCI outlets inside the camper. Check the outlets inside and see if any of them are GFCI. If they are, check the reset button to see if they've been tripped. I've had my exterior outlet go off and I just hit the reset inside and it's back.

RE: ants in trailer

on a pop up camper that I was fixing up/selling for a friend, it had quite an infestation of the big black ants when I opened it up. I mean they were EVERYWHERE! it would have taken probably 20 traps to get them all. I ran to the hardware store and picked up a "bug bomb" for ants and set that off and closed up the camper for the day. Came back the next day with a vacuum and cleaned up the aftermath. I guess it all comes down to how many you have, where they're at, and how quickly you want to get rid of them. My recommendation is the bug bomb. luckily the camper I was fixing was empty inside (no pots, pans, etc.) so it was relatively easy to set off. if your camper has stuff in it, pull ALL of it out and inspect it for the little buggers, then set one off and let it work it's magic!

RE: Pic of Roo at Prophetstown State Park

yeah we visited wolf park a couple times over the weekend. Pretty cool, and educational place.

RE: Pic of Roo at Prophetstown State Park

yeah I recommend the vent covers too. Friday night I forgot to reopen mine a little to let some of the humidity out from us breathing overnight and got up in the middle of the night and brushed my head on the canvas and had a nice wet forehead, even with the PUG's. Sat night & sun night I had the front vent cracked just a wee bit and the inside of the canvas was dry.

RE: bad fridge or bad converter?

converter's only make 12v from 120v seeing as you say 'centurian 3000' are you talking about an inverter/converter combo unit ? if set to propane it should stay there, if you have it on automatic it will switch to 120 when available and IF you have 'the inverter' running you are making 120v from your batteries 12v, so it might run on 120v until the inverter shuts off from low battery voltage, then switch to propane this is 'operator' error if there is NO inverter or its in manual LP mode, i would say you have a bad control board in the fridge but this board operates from 12vdc from the battery, so a low/bad battery could cause you problems Let me clarify/answer your questions. My guess is it's a converter/inverter but I could be wrong. I keep my fridge on Auto so it's not human error as it was working fine the past season or so. When I'd plug in to shore power, the fridge would switch to AC. One other note, my fridge is a 3 way fridge (AC, DC, LP). It could be a battery problem too, I have my charge wire connected on the TV and after driving 3 hours today coming home, the electric tongue jack sounded pretty weak when unhitching (trailer plug was disconnected from TV). When I hitched up, again, I connected the trailer to the TV and the tongue jack ran fine (pulling 12v from the TV). The battery is a yellow top battery, I'm not sure how old it is, my guess is it's probably either original or pretty old. When we picked up the trailer, it had original 2002 tires on it, so chances are it probably wasn't maintained well. Think I'm done mind rambling here, and I think you're right about the battery now that you mention that the fridge board runs on 12v. I'm going to pull the battery off in a couple weeks to winterize and I'll have the local auto parts place test the battery and this spring I'll pickup a new battery regardless. Thanks for the help.

bad fridge or bad converter?

So I'm not sure what exactly is causing my problem, so let me put it out there for the group and see what ya'll think. On our last two trips when I brought the camper home to pre-chill the fridge, load up, etc. I plugged the trailer into an outlet in the garage (like usual) and I'll turn on the gas as well to purge the line for when we roll out so the fridge can run on LP while on the road. Before, when I'd turn on the fridge, it would go to AC right away. Lately it's been firing up on gas and will eventually switch back to AC. On our last trip I noticed the fridge was switching back and forth from AC to Gas throughout the weekend. Prior to leaving, when the fridge was running on gas, I did check the outlet in the outside fridge compartment and it's measuring like 126v (going from memory, but it was above 120v). So that has me thinking it might be something with the fridge. On the same note, I think there might be something with the converter. It's a Centurion 3000 (I've read they're faulty) in my 2002 Palomino. I've noticed recently that the fan, which use to run all the time, takes a while to start running. So I'm wondering if there's something with the converter which is causing the fridge to not have consistent 110v, thus causing it to trip back to LP. Or could it be something with the fridge, or combination of both. Any ideas/things I can check to try and pin point? I'm thinking maybe of running a separate extension cord from the garage to the fridge (bypass the converter) and see if it does the same thing. I mean I guess it's not a huge problem since it doesn't use a ton of LP when it cycles back and forth, but it's a little annoying. Also, is there a way to test the converter to see if it's charging the house battery? Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: Pic of Roo at Prophetstown State Park

I just got home from Wolfe's LeisureTime CG just down the road from you. Was there Fri-Mon. Friday night was a lil chilly, Saturday night was BUTT cold, Sunday night was a bit warmer, but the rain this morning made breaking camp 'fun'. Beautiful area, the Wolf Park was a lot of fun too.

RE: It's going to be cold this next camping weekend!!!

We're heading down to Lafayette IN for a nice 4 day weekend. Bring on the cooler weather! I have a small ceramic heater and 2 full tanks of LP to keep us nice and toasty. we all have our own "no sew" fleece blankets and the digital thermostat keeps the temps right where I want it. I sooo love fall camping. This is probably our last outting for the season (might try one in Nov). Yeah it stinks having to put it away for winter, but financially it works out nicely for us. I don't think I could afford to camp year round! In our off season we set aside a lil extra from paychecks into our "camping fund" so our trips for the next year are already paid for. We even budget in for an extra tank or two of gas for the trip. Our TV is a daily driver so we'll be putting gas in it regardless, so we budget in the off season for the next year.

RE: Columbus Day weekend trip

My daughter has Monday off and Friday as a "teacher inservice" (aka they wanted a nice long weekend too), so we're heading to Lafayette IN to check out a wolf park. I got buckets of PTO left for the year so taking Fri & Mon off to have some end of season fun

RE: New Faucet

isn't Tuesday morning stores have costco reject merchandise?? stuff returned by customers and things that don't sell in the main stores? Can't really say about the source of their products, but the faucets I got were brand new, sealed in the boxes and looked to be without issue. Used them a full season with no issue.

RE: New Faucet

Do you have any Tuesday Morning stores near you? I got a VERY nice kitchen (high arch pull out sprayer) and bathroom faucet from there for about $75 brand new. Based on the original prices on the boxes, those two items would have been about $400+. I forgot what brands they are, but they are two name brands that you'd find in any HD or Lowes. Only problem with Tuesday Morning stores is inventory can change by the day/week so it's kind of a gamble when you go there on what you might find. Could get really lucky, could strike out. There's a couple between home and work and every once in a while I'll pop in to see what they have.

RE: Tire shopping = nightmare. Advice requested

I had them change all 5 tires while I was there. Now they're all new and I'm not risking running with a 7 year old spare tire. I checked the dates on the new Denman's and they were all made in June 2009. Feeling much better now knowing I'm on new tires. Thanks for the advise. The place I got them from was Pomps Tires (www.pompstire.com), they have shops all over IL, IN, WI, MI, SD, IA. Total came to $292 for all five to be mounted on existing wheels and they have tons of locations so if I run into any problems in the areas we camp, I have a place to go for repairs.

RE: TV

I'd go the route of looking for a new TV. You got the HD/Sat signal coming in to an ancient TV.

RE: Anode Rod Broken Off

Any chance you can post a picture of your situation? A picture would help identify what's left in the drain hole and help with a going forward plan.

RE: Jayco stands behind there product. Bed door upgrade.

I've heard very good things about Rick's RV in Joliet, my parents got their Jayco from Holiday Hour in Dekalb because it was closer and have had nothing but good experiences from them as well. Great to see that a dealership is willing to stand up and work on your behalf with the manufacturer.

RE: HULA FIX for those body clinging shower curtains

Clever! I assume you "hook" or attach the hoop after one gets into the shower. Or...? or it's fun game of solo nekid limbo!
