RE: Swing bracket install help
Why not simply put some blocks, saw horses, etc... under the camper if it's already off to support it, then remove the front jacks, install the swingaway brackets, and then reinstall the jacks?
RE: What Would You Do?
If you want to stay with Ford, go with an older Ford with the 7.3L Diesel vs the 6.0, while nothing's perfect, the 7.3L was their last well known dependable series. The 6.0 line had nothing but problems and that which came after are still fairly young technologically.
RE: Where Have You Taken Your 4x4 Dually Pickup & TC OffRoad
Let's see.... bunch of USFS campgrounds in the Cascade mountains, drove it through the National Bison Range in it's entirety in Montana, whole lot of hair pin turns and steep steep grades, lot of 2-lo climbing there :).
RE: Where are all the Truck Campers ?
They are all on my side of the country, lots out at the Oregon Coast this past weekend and we were one of them....
Yeah, that pretty much sums up what I said a while ago. :)
Where are all the Truck Campers? Over where there's lots of public lands :).
RE: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild
I was wondering what was everone planning for the long weekend.
Weather permitting I will be making my first trip out on the beach.
Bob W.
Sit tight, pay down bills and save up for a 5th wheel to add to the fleet :).
RE: Insayn's 2013 road trip prep.
Hey Craig,
I didn't see Michigan on that list...
Yeah, not this year. In the future when the kids are off and running their own lives, I would like to hit some of the north eastern states and catch the fall colors.
I've been all over OR, WA, ID, CA, NV, AZ, UT, CO, WY, (not really interested in NM. Been to parts of FL, TX, NE, SD, and MT.
So this year we are hitting more of the mid and lower south east.
Totally looking forward to the sweltering heat and bugs! :E
I can tell you from having just done that last year, that those colors are awesome, nothing in the NW looks near as eye popping as Wisconsin and the UP in Fall.
RE: Ever See One of These?
If I had found one in good shape back when I was camper hunting, I'd never have needed the dually rear end I put on my truck :p.
RE: Camping/Parking around Chicago
I cannot even imagine trying to park an RV in the city, much less drive it in there. Closest CG to Schaumburg I think might be the Chicago/NW KOA out in Union. Do NOT drive in the city with anything more than the toad.
Been there, done that, drove through downtown, too, and a whole lot on Lake Shore Drive. My only beef is that the google navigator doesn't have a "Vehicle Height" feature, which would have made it alot easier.
Usually ended up parking out near soldier field at the parking lot for the park there.
RE: Thinking about a Truck Fridge.
I found a 4.4 cu ft model real close to the dimensions of my gas fridge.
The specs say 24 watts per hour. That is 2 amps per hour? If so that is right in the ball park with my Engel 45 which used 2.5/hour.
My Engel picked up a bad vibration after 2 seasons. :M Won't go that route again. $$$$$
Really tired of these gas fridges that can't cut hot weather. 60 degree beer in 100 degree weather BLOWS!!!
Haven't had a chance to test again in 100 degree weather, though I have tested in upper 90s, and after super insulating the cabinet and adding custom ducting and a large number of specifically placed fans to improve air flow in the back on the fridge, it's stayed pretty much at 28-32 degrees all year round without having to adjust the settings up from 1 (out of 10 on electric) and 2 (out of 10) on gas.
RE: Where are all the Truck Campers ?
Given that there's very little public land back east, I'd wager they're out here on the west coast where we have alot of public lands still.
RE: Move Over, Boys...
Geh, that thing just keeps coming around :p and it hasn't gotten any less ugly or looking like something your proctologist uses :p.
I won't ask how you know that Matt :E
Steve.
Sokay, the answer would simply be, "The Internet" :p.

RE: Exterior of camper "box" needs repair
Well, a quick fix is to drill or cut out the the end of the crack so it doesn't continue, then using a good marine adhesivem also available at hardware store (home depot), glue a piece of sheet metal found at your average hardware store's roofing section over the damage (found at home depot) and secure it with a few lathing screws.
Once the sealant has cured, give a coat of spray paint and yer good :).
RE: What really chaffs yer hide when TC'ing?
Well, that and numbnuts that flash their brights because they're in an ass dragginly low car and think my regular beams are high beams :p.
If you're getting flashed regularly, your headlights are aimed too high. A taller vehicle's lights should appear less bright at a distance because they are shining down toward the road. People usually determine brightness at a distance, not when they are passing your grille.
Not real regularly, I had the headlights reaimed some time ago as one was cockeyed, I just find it annoying that they do it at point blank vs far off.
The ones far off usually figure it out if they send the double blink reminder and I send a single blink back.
It's just a possibility that the ride height of my truck is just right that when the camper is on the lights are tipped up just enough to hit more butt-dragger cars right in the eyes.
RE: What really chaffs yer hide when TC'ing?
Running out of beer and cigars!
Aye, know that one well! :)
Actually, the only thing that really drives me nutterbutters is the other drivers on the road and their reckless abandon in how they drive, usually at the risk of being used as a crumple zone.
Well, that and numbnuts that flash their brights because they're in an ass dragginly low car and think my regular beams are high beams :p.
We just returned from 15 days in eastern Oregon. No real problems encountered except for some folks who ignored the leashed dogs notice at Page Springs in Frenchglen and the kids who kept cutting through our campsite at Millersylvania State Park south of Olympia. The positive was meeting some wonderful rangers at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and a gal from our hometown who let us know about a cool place for rockhounding. Oh, and a great couple from the Oregon coast who let us check out their restored Airstream.
Did they tell ya about the Fossil dig area over in Fossil behind the high school? ;).
RE: Front rack
Mine is custom built and uses twin tubes, so it has zero vibration when loaded. I traditionally carry 30 gallons of fresh water, a crate of firewood, my splitting maul, a small bbq and 5 gallons of gasoline on it.
RE: NewAir ADS-300 dehumidifier
I had it's bigger brother, the ADS-400, they really don't work well enough to dehumidify an RV while occupied and most of the Air and Water products are really poor quality, they tend to break or stop working properly after a short while.
I'd return it and get your money back. A good humidity control is to use your onboard furnace and leave a roof vent cracked. This plus a Shurflo Comfort Breeze fan assembly in place of a roof vent (If you have a spare roof vent in your main living space, most don't) mixing the air constantly is the best humidity controls.
