RE: Southern Comfort RV Resort????

We stay there every year for the NASCAR races and occasionally as a stop over on the way to the keys. It's just a 100 yds or so off US1. It's an older park. but it's OK,not fancy, sites are kind of small, but if you are there before the snowbirds come, there is usually plenty of room...... if you just want a place to park while you head to the keys, go to Florida City Campground, it's a block off US 1 off of Krome Ave. It's run by the city and if you just want to leave your RV there and not use hookups, I think it's about $6/day. We use them when we leave the RV and ride our motorcycles down to Key West.

RE: Vin and Serial number versus title

I bought a used Motorhome from a dealer in Florida in 2000, the coach was advertised as a 1998 and titled in Indiana as a 1998. Indiana puts the title year as the date the coach manufacture finishes the coach. When I titled it in Florida, Florida uses the chassis VIN to determine the year. In my case, the chassis was a 1999 so that made me happy... I bought what was a 1998 from Indiana and a few days later had a 1999 title, future resale price obviously was better for me.
Bottom line is it depends on the state... whether they go by the coach date or the chassis date.

RE: DIY oil change - questions

How about putting on Fumoto valve, that way you can use smaller containers for ease of use and transport and be able to shut off the flow while switching containers. Looks like the T-204 will fit .. go with the N suffix ( hose nipple) , makes it a lot cleaner.
Here's the website I use them on my vehicles and have never had a problem

RE: Stone Mountain information

As far as level campsites, the loop by the pool is the best... sites 140-168 , I think. Last time we were there, we were in 144 or 145 and it was level and plenty of room for our MH and toad.

RE: Battery/electrical experts -- question on refrigerator

Thanks for the info... just went over to the storage lot and checked on the temps... it was cold, didn't have my thermometer, but seemed really good after 4 hrs. The refer/compressor wasn't running, so it must have reached it's target temps of 0 in the freezer and 38 in the refer section. So, in the future, I'll start it up a few hours before hand instead of a day ahead. The battery meter showed that battery voltage had dropped about .2v from where it started this morning.

RE: Battery/electrical experts -- question on refrigerator

Westend--- Thanks --- that gives me a guideline.... the only time I'll probably need to do that is when we are getting ready to go out on a trip and the MH is in the storage lot w/o electric so I need to start up the refer a day before hand. With the old MH which was propane, not a big deal as long as we had propane... now, with the new one, it looks like a day in advance is doable with battery power without kicking in the genset.
The AGS defaults to start at 11.0 volts...... what would you recommend I set it to, if you think 11.0v is too low ?

Battery/electrical experts -- question on refrigerator

I was wondering how long a residential refrigerator will run on a bank of 8 - 6 volt golf car batteries before the gen start kicks in for low voltage ( kicks in at 11v according to manual) ? The energy star sheet on the refer doesn't have amp draw, only an estimated 532 Kwh use per year. Anyway to guess on run time before the genny kicks in ?
Thanks

RE: Remove love bugs after they have been on for a while

A spray bottle with 50% Hydrogen Peroxide and 50% water. We always used it on motorcycles and I use it on the motorhome.
Me too..... and if you put a wet towel or two over the area and let it soak in for 30 minutes or so, it helps a lot

RE: anyone running Kumho tires on their classA?

Yes, I have had Kumho's on our 36' Pace Arrow for several years (7+) Just sold the MH a couple of weeks ago. I've had no problems with them and had great service. Probably put about 50k miles on them and they looked real good . They did seem to ride a bit harder than the Michelins that they replaced.

RE: Marathon Fl restaurant recommendation

Herbies is good for lunch, Sparky's Landing is a good bar/restaurant on the water. For pizza, take a ride across the 7 mile bridge to Big Pine key and head out to the No Name Pub.

RE: Maggie Valley NC

We've stayed at Stone Bridge the last 2 years for a few weeks in the summer. The place really went down hill last year and we won't be going back. In the 3 weeks we were there last year, they never cleaned the rest room floors, the walls were covered with mold and the roof leaked. The pool was ripped out of the ground and there was only a mud pit where it used to be. Stop at Snappy's restaurant for a great meal, the Wheels through time museum is super if you like antique American made motorcycles. Another outstanding restaurant is in Waynesville called the Chef's Table. Go see the elk in Cataloochee Valley -- best in late afternoon/ early evening.

RE: ReserveAmerica - time you make reservations FL State Park ?

Tan man, I agree with your post but I'd also like to see reservations 11 months out for Florida residents and 6 months out for out of state residents.
I agree... I proposed that to Donald V. Forgione, director of Fl state parks. We had a couple conversations, I pointed out that Pinellas County ( e.g Ft. DeSoto) and Sarasota County 9 e.g. Turtle Beach) had policies that favored the residents by allowing a different reservation wondow, but Mr. Forgione rejected the idea feeling it would have be PR with the tourists. If you'd like, I can send you my letter which contains more info and facts and you can forward it on under your signiture to teh director.

RE: stopping on the main land before the Keys

We stayed at Jonathan Dickinson SP last fall and found the new section to be very roomy with full hookups.
As mentioned, Miami Everglades is also a good stop over as is Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami. Southern Comfort , in Homestead is an OK spot for a stopover and it's just before the 18 mile stretch that takes you into the Keys.
