RE: RV Insurance

It does make a difference! State Farm dropped us like a Hot Potatoe when they found out we were full timing! This after over 40yrs with them for house, cars, and Life ins.
If you don't tell them you may have a claim and not be covered once they do find out!

RE: Fifth Wheel Clearance

I have 5 inches clearance. Have been towing this camper 10 yrs now w/o any problems. But I have a "short Bed". I do though remove the Tonneau cover and put it in the pass through for travel! It's not that hard to do!

RE: ez lube axles and blown grease seals

X-2 I check Bearings & replace Seals every 3 Years, worked for 10yrs so far!
There are lots of threads on here, but to sum itup:
Yes, if you are not careful, you can blow the seals. I try to do this chore in hot weather when the grease flows freely, and always use a hand powered grease gun, and pump slowly and carefully. I like to have the wheel off the ground, and have a helper spin it while the grease goes in - i think that gives a better opportunity for the grease to be evenly distributed - some manufacturers recommend this techique, some say spinning the wheel is not necessary.
Using two different colors can work, but you have to make sure both greases are the same type and grade. I like to use the premium marine grade greases, because that is what I have in the grease gun for the boat trailer, and, over the years I have had red, blue, and green grease.
Even if the grease is the same color as you used last time, you can tell when the fresh grease comes through, as the grease that was in the bearing turns pretty dark or even black. On the boat trailer, it is even easier as the grease gets cloudy and white because of moisture.
Remember, there are two bearings in each wheel, so as you pump you will first see the dirty grease from the outside bearing, then the relatively clean grease that was between the two bearings, then the dirty grease again from the inside bearing, then the fresh grease - usually about half a 14 oz. tube.
It is still recommended to take everything apart every 10,000 miles or so to clean and manually repack and check the brakes. Always new seals when you repack.

RE: Husky 16k slider

Mine has worked flawlessly for 10 years now. I have only used the slider about 4 or 5 times in the 10 years! It's a great hitch.

RE: Cabo Manufactured by Carriage

THANKS! I knew it was a lower price model. But just wondered if any one had one and how it lasts. My current Jayco was not a "full time" unit either. But it is going strong after 10yrs. and over 1300 nights spent in it. Still might just keep it. But starting to think about a trade!

Cabo Manufactured by Carriage

Anyone know anything about them? I know Carriage was a good co. but know nothing about a Cabo. Are they any good? Any problems with them? would you buy one again?
Have a line on a 2011 model, thinking about making an offer if it's still around in the spring.
Haven't been able to find out much on the Internet either!
Thanks in advance!

RE: When getting new tires do you

I put the trailer up on jack stands at home and then bring in all 4 wheels for tires. :)
X-2
Then I reinstall and torque them myself, after checking Brakkes and Bearings! I don't want the lugs over torqued with their air guns!

RE: v10 gas mileage

Is there a way to get better gas mileage out of a 2002 Jaco Eagle 450 Ford V10? I presently get 8 mpg at 60-65 mph.
FYI
A V-10 is 6.8 Litres figures to about 407 Cubes!
No big deal but just thought you might like to know.
Oops looked at my chart wrong! Should have been 415!

RE: RV insurance

I had State Farm for over 40yrs! They decided to cancel me because we wre living in the Camper Full time! I am now with GMAC but only since Nov. first. If rate goes up next year I will look elsewhere.
They were highly recommended by other full timers though!

RE: How to drive one

From what you have said, I would say all you need to know Is if the tow vehicle can handle the load! If you can handle a Semi a fifth wheel will be a piece of cake. Think of it as a mini Semi!
