RE: Looking for AF 996 owners feedback

Don't sweat it...that dually (any dually) will haul that and pull way more...Am I missing something on the trailer here? A 2500 pound trailer should not weigh that (IMHP), at the tongue depending on how you load it. I have one...a single axle 14 footer. I can pick it up but bairly..LOL! What has that kind of weight at the ball? If it is a dual axel with brakes, even better....If you have a stinger out there, every inch counts. Reese hitches has a chart that shows the allowable ball weight for how far you extend a hitch. A class 5 receiver with a 3 inch hole is needed and you will be shocked at just how much that piece of steel weighs! I have a 41 and a 48 inch.....You will be in the 13 thousand pound range loaded up regardless and can pull a lot without even knowing it is back there...keep your eyes in the mirror though if you don't have a tire pressure system..I have an 02 3500 Dodge and carry an AF 1150 with no problems...air bags and that's all.

RE: Off road riding near Portland Oregon

HI Fred!...Diamond Mill in the Tillamook is a great place, it is a little further down the road than Browns Camp. If you pass the Tillamook visitor center you have gone too far but go there to get the maps....Browns camp area is a good place to go...we even have a shooting range to the right of the T in the road. When you first pull in Rodgers is on the left, day use, Browns to the right just a few miles in. I suggest getting a forest service map or a map that is specifically for the ORV people..it shows all of the trails available, you'll have the greatest time ever. Diamond mill has the best roads for your buggy. When you pull in you'll cross a bridge and come to a T.. there is a fee area to the right but if you go left there is a free area... if you go up the mountain to the right...stay left and go up Diamond mill road, camp anywhere you want. Get your sticker and put it where they tell you to...usually on the right side, happy trails..Kev

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

It's their call...my dime and time. Who knows what could happen in this world. I do know this. This area was right in the middle of the panel, it of course has now spread. Once an air pocket forms, moisture will accumulate in there even if there is no outside leak. I would have liked to have fixed it right away but my personal situation has not allowed me the resources. It's going to be torn into eventually so there was no rush to do it in the middle of the winter. I went over it many times looking for a cause. Yes we are lucky enough to have a supplier that I can get the material if I can't physically separate the layers. Guess what now? An area on the rear is turning soft...this defiantly looks like my fault for sure. It appears that something in the upper corner has leaked. It has been raining here hard for weeks. It could be those outdoor speakers if it was my guess...going to pull it apart today and see whats in there. The weather has taken a turn here for the better so I'm going to get to work. Wish me some luck....happy trails everyone.

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

The original contact person asked me to bring it to them. I expected nothing and that is what I got. It is the crappy customer service I got from a person who needs to work on their soft skills. No thank you, no hey I'm sorry this is happening. I'm not sure everyone is reading my posts. I clearly am taking responsibility claiming it is probably my fault. Didn't you read and see that? It is nether here nor there. Why does it sound like I'm trying to gain something here? This is getting out of control. I took it there out of the goodness of my own heart,,,thinking maybe they would have something to gain as a company by seeing what is going on. OK so this defending myself is got to stop. I said it and I will say it again WE WILL ALL BENEFIT FROM THIS! I do not know yet what has happened here. This delam started last spring. The company is real busy during the summer months. I brought it there last October. It has taken this long to get ready for the repair. What else can I tell you? Your going to see it with your own eyes. So quit thinking I'm out to get something for nothing....that is not what my post was about. It is about a bad customer service expierence...ok?

I want to say this again....we are all going to benefit from this. When I tear into this TC, the pics will come. Regardless of what happened, my advice is to get a better commitment. I failed at it so use my fall down moment. I'm not fighting this but embracing it as another adventure. Be patient and you'll see every thing will be OK.

Nkrantz...so would you throw a fit on the spot? This truly is not a vent on my part...fustration..maybee? Not the least...Yes it seems foolish to take it there and be given a fyou. You were not there and didn't get this in your face. I pick my battles...and a camper is not worth it to me...again our camper family is going learn something from this....don't throw me under the bus. You will learn something from this at my cost..what more do you want?

Remember this is not a bashing by no means. AF makes very good things. I get along with most everyone and if you think it is a higher agenda on my part...you would be mistaken. My challenge is to dig into this thing and find out what the heck is going on under that skin. We all want to know and see it ..right?...

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

The wife said not to forget to mention that we just didn't show up out of nowhere. I did in the original post. To replay it, It was requested of us to make the trip there in the first place. The first contact person I personally talked to was not available and we were turned over to another lead. Not the best customer service rep to say the least. It was quite a surprise to be turned around and let go so quickly. This is not a cheap trip and believe me...I heard about it all the way home. We tried to make the best out of it and hit some stops on the way back. Again the lesson is that if you make that trip there for any reason...be sure you talk to the person who asked you to be there and question the fact if it is going to be worth it.

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

This is what open discussion is all about. I am, nor will I ever, be looking for a hand out. I am very capable of getting the job done. What will come out of this is what I have been doing in the past...getting down to the facts of why this happens, how to fix it and show all of you the naked facts. It very well might be my fault..if it is so be it. A pinhole leak could be the culprit. We will see. Even if it is not, then the education is worth more than money can buy. It is just a camper. Things do and will go wrong...I never expected The TC to be bullet proof in the first place. AF makes a very good product for the most part. Can I trust the fact that the company will stand up to the line and say we were wrong? MMM..my trust is just a little shaky at this point. It was a knee jerk reaction for sure, do they treat everyone this way? I'm not so sure but It did happen to me and it could happen again since it has already. Everyone here is going to see what is under all that Filon...I can't say anyone has put up a post on this issue showing the damage and then the repair that followed. I will come out better educated and will be able to point out any weak points that others should be on the lookout for...it's the best I can do for you. I'm working on the space to start with...Oregon can rain even on a sunny day...LOL! This will take a little time but it is coming, trust me.

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

Hi everyone...I am an all year round user. I take very good care of my second home and I am on the ball when it comes to this stuff. I have been a big contributer to this forum and it is not some rant to throw AF under the bus but rather to tell owners what to expect what could happen to them. First off... I would never take it anywhere but the factory to have an issue like this dealt with. Second, I was told to bring it there only to be turned away. Car companies recall defects all the time regardless of the age of the vehicle. Third, I have already found a local RV supply company that has the replacement Filon material to fix it with and I am going to do it myself. The fix should be around a thousand dollars. Now as summer comes around, you're going to have a tear down with pics to show everyone what the heck is going on under this stuff once and for all. My bad will be your good ...trust me. Stay tuned to your local TC forum. I forgot to say that he quoted a starting price at the factory to repair it would start at 5 thousand dollars. WTF?...run it off a cliff and call it stollen..right?

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

I am not a happy camper.... to actually go there and to be disregarded on the spot is foolish ....... on their part. They did not even pull it into a bay to have a closer look..this guy was a dirt bag. OH and it was snowing out side...so he was cold and didn't want to give a crap...after I just drove in it; he doesn't care right? We don't want you here go away... well, take it for what you will ...just saying you will get it when the time comes...just be warned

I really am hoping that this doesn't conflict with the forum because people need to know what can happen...I didn't know till I got there in person ...what a waste of time and money... right?.... they didn't even give me a thank you as I left the lot...like I was the piece of poop they didn't want to clean up.

Arctic Fox owners beware.

It is with a truely sad experience that I must inform you that Northwood has this to say about de-lamination on any of their Camper models. "( We will not and have never guaranteed that we will be responsible for any de-lamination regardless of how old any unit is even if it was built yesterday)" This by the lead guy that day I brought it there. (NO Names). I was told to drive my TC to the factory by phone conversation, to La Grand only to have it inspected for a basket ball size bubble in the side wall, that took five minutes to inspect, and to be turned immediately around and told we will not do anything about it and it is your responsibility to repair it. I spent 36 thousand dollars on this custom TC and this is what I get?
Shocked, in disbelief and 300 dollars in diesel can't say that I would or could recommend this unbelievable experience to anyone...and to think I have had one before...never again.

RE: Removing old vinyl decals from fiberglass

Thanks everyone...really, this is only from experience. I just like to hit it with the pressure washer and I'm good to go, no worries. I might consider a sponsorship where as I get a little more incentive to advertise..LOL! I think it also adds a little..(I wonder what kind of camper that is?)
I was originally thinking of a very subtle pinstripe, but as I looked at it more...nada.

RE: Removing old vinyl decals from fiberglass

Best advice I can give, and not to rub it in for buying anything used, but that if you ever buy ANYTHING NEW, don't get decals to begin with! Have them removed at new before you use it or if you custom order, request that the factory doesn't even install them. I will never worry about this ever again...see for yourself... and people ask my why?

Unfortunately you will probably always have some fading issues and the advice others have given is very good. I wish you the best...let us know how you get it done and what the outcome is.

RE: Arctic Fox 1150 on F350 DRW diesel?

You will like the 1150 layout better than the 1140. I had an 1140 and now have a 1150 on a 02 Dodge dually. There are pros and cons to both. My profile will tell you more. If you have more questions I can help you out some...PM me. insp1505 pretty much tells you the rest of the story...good write up!

RE: Which type of Enclosed trailer?

Just a quick chime....If you have a flat nose, the tongue length is crutial...it will need to be extended. Your jacks will hit it guarantee it! Having owned one and having to extend it after the fact,I would have gone with a V nose for a camper application.
