RE: Water Pressure While Hot Water Heater is Operating;

A more correct answer is "Sometimes"
And frankly.. I do not know why.
There may also be a check valve on the water heater outlet.. I do understand why on that one.
My concern is...at this pressure, it could break the plastic fittings used in RV's.

RE: Water Pressure While Hot Water Heater is Operating;

There is a pressure relief valve on your HWT. It will open if the pressure really goes too high. You will have spikes in the normal water pressure as water heats in the tank since the water lines are normally connected through a check valve which keeps water from feeding back into the 'on shore' water supply. This is normal. Your rig needs the check valve to keep your pump from pumping your 'on board' water into the campground water supply. If you think the pressure is going up too high, try shutting off the water to your rig as well as the pump, then release the pressure by opening a tap and open the pressure relief valve on the HWT. Then open a tap or a low point drain... below the level of the pressure relief valve to let air into the top of your HWT. Then close the pressure relief valve etc. Once you have an air pocket in the top of the tank the pressure should be less when the water heats as the air pocket will cushion the increased pressure.
It's been my experience that the pressure will still increase as the water is heated but I've never had a failure of the plumbing system due to the increase caused by the heating of the water. Hope this helps :)
This makes perfect sense, thank you...so much for the well thought out and explained reply. Replies like this can only come from a well deserved "Senior Status" member of this forum. I will certainly give this a try.

RE: Water Pressure While Hot Water Heater is Operating;

When this happens turn on hot water faucet and see if pressure drops water expands as it heats
Yes the pressure does drop but climbs back up until the hot water heater turns off.

Water Pressure While Hot Water Heater is Operating;

Ok, I am in need of a knowledgeable plumber to answer this question, or a life experienced RVer would also be great:
Is there a pressure valve in the hot water tank to keep the pressure from entering the plumbing system?
On our water pressure gauge the pressure will climb to 75 lbs. while the hot water heater is heating up.
This is a concern due to the recommended pressure is 55 lbs.…or so I have heard.
If any of you could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.

RE: Insulating under slide out

This is how I prevented the cold air from coming in ours.
They sale the 2 x 2 inch foam that is used for window AC's. I lifted the carpet along the inside and pushed it in the edge / seam and around the corners. I also put the same foam outside behind the first rubber seal along the bottom. I also removed the chairs and table then took some bubble wrap insulation and slid it front to back leaving enough to cover the inside edge of the slide. This has proven to be effective in reducing the cold air from coming in. We have been in the single digits for days and we have been able to stay very comfortable 68 with minimal run time on the furnace. While living in Utah I cut and placed the 2 inch pink foam board on the outside bottom, this was not as effective as the bubble wrap insulation placed under the carpet. FWIW!
