RE: STILL broke down.........

Really? Are you a betting man? Check out THIS Ford guy's time line. The OP stated their truck sat for over a week without even having the hood popped. The poster in the link had an inept dealership with an even more inept tech working on his truck. Unless it was the same dealership as the OP there is no real comparison there. From reading the posts in the thread you linked it reads that the tech responsible for most of the issues no longer works on diesels and is doing oil changes. Is that Ford or the 6.4L's fault?

RE: STILL broke down.........

I don't know about 7 gallons but 17 quarts is a bunch and close enought for me!!! Check out post 5 and 15 of THIS link. He is a very busy tech. Subject of the thread is RARE, VERY RARE Implosion. How that equates to busy tech I am not gathering. ONE tech in 2 posts on a 3 page thread. Yep, he's buried with imploding engines.

RE: STILL broke down.........

Waving the BS flag on this entire thing. Sorry. Not buying that a warrantied truck has sat on a lot untouched for 3 weeks and the OP has yet to state what the problems actual diagnosis was. Really? Are you a betting man? Check out THIS Ford guy's time line. Explain how 7 gallons of fuel fit into the oil system. I don't know about 7 gallons but 17 quarts is a bunch and close enought for me!!! Check out post 5 and 15 of THIS link. He is a very busy tech. Now another mystery new truck. Must be nice being rich enough to make 2 truck payments. Must be. Some make more money than you. Most make more money than me!!! :B Thanks for the fictional entertainment. I can supply more links that talk about these kinds of problems with the 6.4. Not from RV'ers but from tech's that work on this engine for a living. I said it some time ago. These engines are "starting" to blow up and are VERY expensive to fix. As the weeks go by, it's getting easier and easier to find more stories. Perhaps you missed the three previous threads that were locked. Are you honestly saying 17 quarts of fuel can get into an oil system and cause a sudden failure? I don't see how 17 quarts will even fit into there without puking a stinky, oily or both mess all over the place. Go add 17 quarts of anything to your engine when it reads full on the dipstick and let us know how far along you get.

RE: Blazer S10 4.3 vs. Explorer 4.0 XLT

IIRC GM used a spider injector on the 4.3L. Problem being if injection to tone cylinder goes you need to replace all as they are not individually replaceable.

RE: 2010 Motor Trend Truck of the year

To those bashing MT, it is plainly stated that their truck of the year needs to be a significantly updated model. No secrets or manufacturer payoffs there. The Ram HD's are the newest models. What were the others that were up for the award? Remember a few years back the Silverado won the 2007 TOY by default as Toyota had not begun selling the Tundra as of the test date. The 2008 TOY went to the Tundra. I would've thought that the GM line would've qualified instead of being replaced with a pair of Ford vans., their current model isn't that old. Whatever happened to testing the current new models sold for the buyer's best intrest??? Did they decide they need to deter against buying a 3-yr old body style for some reason?? I like the Ram and think it would've likely won regardless. It's just disappointing to miss out on reading their opinions of the other current market holders. Pops, GM didn't debut a revised truck for the 2010 MY. Their award boils down to best NEW truck. If the Hinda Ridgeline was brand spankin' new and there were no other significant NEW trucks competing against it, it would win. At least last year the Ram and the F150 were both new resulting in an actual comparison for the award. AFAIK the only people that do a true full available MY shoot out is Edmunds and the one that has been on pickuptrucks.com.

RE: New RAM website up and running (finally!)

To get the backup camera you have to buy the Nav system? The camera doesn't have a view in the rear mirrow for those that don't want Nav? If you opt for the rear seat DVD you cannot have rear window defrost(a nice feature)? Why? Can you only buy a 3500 as a DRW truck? Site doesn't give option of SRW or DRW 3500's. Or am I missing something. Priced out the 3500 at $56,500. Wow, Fiat must be paying the Mexican assembly line workers very good, indeed. Hope Ford doesn't find out. I had these same issues in 2005 whe I was looking at F150's. If I wanted one option I had to pay for 3 more I had no desire to have. If I deleted what I didn't want I also had to delete an item I did want. Nissan had no such packaging and I got more truck than I had originally wanted for less price. They offered 3 packages for the SE models: a preferred package, Big Tow, and the Utility Bed. Choosing the Off Road package automatically gave you the tow package gearing and rating. Pretty darn simple.

RE: Ford's new 6 speed

I can't imagine the Army taking out the Allison trannys and putting in a Ford unit...... Here is a newsflash. They aren't taking them out and putting them into GM's either. The automotive trannies and the tank trannies only have their manufacturer in common aside from maybe a few bits and pieces. Next he will be telling us Cummings is owned by Ford too. *rolls eyes*

RE: New F 150's are also experiencing stuck throttle syndrome

I doubt it is the computer. But if you are serious I would be happy to find you a good '79 and trade you. The throttle now are fly by wire. The computer controls throttle position. There is no physical link between your gas pedal and the throttle.

RE: I have Carlisle Tire's How do i know if they are Chinese?

My local tire shop recommended Carlisle and said he gets no complaints. Be glad you don't have Duro's.

RE: Duro Tires on my Keystone Sprinter

Same thing happened to me. I bought a different brand and didn't bother with giving Duro a second chance to put another set of 1 year and done tires on my TT.

RE: Water pump won't prime for winterizing....AGAIN!

If you have any pressure in the water system the pump will run, but not prime. I had this issue too. Wracked my brain for quite a bit until I opened the sink faucet and it purged a big blast of air and the pump drew from the jug. I blew out my lines with 30psi to clear the water. Last year I did not and ran the lines dry of any water best I could and it primed fine with no air in the system. I am thinking some of you may hve water pressurized in the system or air inthe system from blowing it out and that might be the issue with not drawing.

RE: Water Heater problems

I had a similiar issue this fall. Would not light, not even the click of the igniter or smell of gas. It was the overtemp diode that went. It is inline to the circuit board and the gas valve. I asked about it and was told by a local RV service place that these go fairly often and the tank does not need to overtemp to cause it. It was like $20 for a 2 pack. Replaced the old one and away it when when I turned it on.

RE: Where are you guys putting your gennys when in use?

My Yamaha EF2400IS sits in the bed of my truck. I just roll back part of the cover so its in the open air when I run it. Ditto for me right down to the gernerato make and model except I have a quad fold hard tonneau and just flip up the end.

RE: New Mahindra Pickup truck poor crash test scores...

Fordsoupor duty sez: "To put that in perspective, the Ford F150 rated 5 stars, and the Chevy, Dodge and Nissan 4 stars (acceptable). The recently tested 2010 Tundra rated a 5 star as well." Fordsooperduty, I'll put it in better perspective:B...not the perspective of a ford guy.....the real perspective...the 2009 Chevy Silverado actually scored highest number of stars...5 stars, both in side and frontal impact. Lessee...that's two wrong...both Dodge and Chevy were rated 5 stars...;) Nope....three wrong as the other poster said..Mahindra is not Chinese made...it's made in India...:B Les To put it in real perspective how about using the ratings for the Ranger and Colorado which are comparable sized vehicles instead using fullsized trucks as a basis. Not that the rating isn't poor, but lets at least comapare it to like sized vehicles in it's class.

RE: ok, so my truck's not the hoss i thought it was...

Trying to do the math where changing out gears is a bad idea and price disadvantage because it may out value the truck. If the truck is paid off and in condition, a gear swap is way cheaper than buying a newer TV. All the diesel people always clamor how a diesel can run forever and retain resale value yet they are now advising to ditch it due to resale value. If the OP feels his truck is going to last him another 100k miles then he should go with the gear swap. Much cheaper and better investment than buying another TV.

RE: What effect will a longer shank have?

My truck has the big boat rack on it with a heavy plate between the topper and the box, when I cranked it in the cul de sac out front that is what was going to contact the trailer. I only need a couple inches more and I think and I'll be fine. I've been towning a trailer since 1990, this is our 3rd trailer and I've never had a problem before so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. All this "get used to it" stuff is not going to work, the truck should not be able to contact the body of the trailer period! If it does I just know it's only a matter of time until one day I'm backing into a tight spot between 2 trees or something and I'm gonna forgert and bam, I've punched a nice hole in the front cap of the trailer. Got the new gates out back, I'm going to hook up this weekend, go to a parking lot and experiment with it. If the extra 6" is more than I need I'll get another hole drilled behind the existing and go with that. Not to be rude, but when one mentions TV to TT contact, a truck rack is not the first thing that springs to mind as the part of the TV that will be the problem. It is usually the bumper. Now that you made it know what the real contact issue is I am sure you will get better advice. FWIW can you shorten the boat rack or shift the rails forward if they can clear the top of the cab? Many ladder racks do this. Moving the pivot point further out is the easiest way to gain towability issues and would be my last alternative. It is always best to have the ball as close to the TV as possible regardless of if it is an HD truck or not.

RE: What effect will a longer shank have?

A better question is why is this a problem to start with? I have made some pretty sharp turn going forward and backing up with 3 different TT's and never worried about hitting the TV. Most reliable and cheapest fix is to take your time, use a spotter whenever possible and get to know how your TV and TT position and when contact is an issue. Or you can mark the TT like a previous poster mentioned. FWIW I would not advise a 90 degree situation to start with as it places a strong sideload on both the receiver and the TT's A frame. All 4 of your TT tires would be effectively fighting as you essentially try to pivot them on each other like a skid steer.
