RE: Vista

I have not had a problem with Vista as such that was not caused by my lack of maintenance. Any computer can get Trojans, ad ware and registry problems and they must be addressed with the proper software. And I have not seen an anti virus software that does it all.

RE: Summer Camps for Kids~Please check yours out first!

I did get a reply from the outfit that runs it and said they would retrain the counselors involved in this. Today I was at the lake again the the same group was there with much older counselors and things were fine.

RE: Vista

Ours was the same age and had a problem too. I ran MalWareByte's software and CCleaner software on it and man is it faster. I also found 3 Trojans on the computer that were removed by the first program. These programs are in addition to my anti virus which is Windows OneCare Live.

RE: Summer Camps for Kids~Please check yours out first!

No, this is a park within the national forest that is controlled by the city. The only person is a maintenance man who you don't see really often and he has less authority than I do. Those kids were not going out the way they were and I made that clear. I will also add that I have emailed the group that sent this outfit to the lake so unprepared with my opinions of their operation.

Summer Camps for Kids~Please check yours out first!

I went fishing yesterday at a local lake. About 9 AM a group of about 20 or so kids shows up with two very young adults (kids in my opinion). The kids they were supervising aged 7-11 I am guessing. They had a bunch of canoes that had been placed in the lake by others earlier in the morning for their use. I watched the two "adults", and I use that term very loosely, give the kids the standard life jackets and oars. It was quite obvious that these kids had never been in a canoe before. I watched the one counselor start placing kids into canoes 3 at a time and just watched noting that about 6 of the kids did not have the strap for the life vest around them, in other words it was just over their heads was all. As the kids the next group started to get into the canoe I could not keep my mount shut any longer. I saw that 2 of the 3 did not have the vest secured. If they fell over the vests would slip right over their necks! Please check your summer camp's operation out before you send you kids to someone like this! I told the kids that was boarding these kids to fasten those vests or get them out of the boats now! It's a violation of the rules at the lake they were at and clearly posted so that all under 12 must have vest on properly when a boat is moving. I had to remind that counselor in 3 more cases as he boarded these kids and sent them out onto the 15 acre lake to get those vests fastened before they went on the boats! I will note that this lake is a very deep lake and nobody from the group was on the water with these kids at all! I won't say the name of the outfit running the day camp buy you all know the organization's name. This particular group did not care about the kids saftey and was very poorly trained. Do they care about the kids? I doubt it. If there is a wrongful death the main group which is non profit has no money and the local chapter just fades away. The counselors were not old enough to have any money either so suing them is out. The main question here is would you even want to think about the death of a child from careless behavior like this?

RE: Have you used Costco 6 volt Golf Batteries

I don't know if they are the same now but a few years ago I knew who made them and they were by a good company. I knew many that used them and they gave good service. How long they last is on you. Take care of them properly and such. A battery usually has so many recharge cycles and hard or heavy use or high amperage draws will adversely affect the life span of any battery like this.

RE: What kind of skam is this?

Sounds like some of the cars and such on Craig's List. The poster wants you to respond and the price is so good they will have you send a small deposit to hold it at that price. They respond by saying they are a divorcee with kids to raise so they need the money and have clear title and shipping is not a problems "as my brother works at a shipping company and he gets on free shipment per year". I flag all these posts like this when I get this same response. Be very careful with your money.

RE: Did you know this about Lightning Storms?

I don't know about other states, but here in AZ it's against the law to be in a public swimming pool if lighting is in the distance or threatening. Makes sense to me.

RE: Credit Card

Dumped B of A a long time ago now. And that was the second time. I remember the first time I dumped them, it was right after ATMs starting getting real popular and then a teller told me that B of A was going to start charging to us them. Many of us in my old community bailed from B of A then. They never did charge a fee to use their ATMs to my knowledge. The second time was over trying to see someone in the bank. I went into the lobby in another town I lived in to have something explained that was not right on my statement and there were only 2 customer service reps and around 20 people waiting for one of the 2. I was told the wait could be over 2 hours and I might have to come back the next day! And it was only 1 PM!:S I got in line, got to a teller and withdrew all our funds from checking and savings and took it over to the local credit union and opened an account.

RE: Incredible.......

It used to be said seeing is believing. I know what I can do with simple computer manipulation and I have seen demonstrations of what professional level stuff can do. I guess the old "seeing is believing" is out the window.

RE: Overseas visitors

Sounds like a "been there and seen that" type of scenario. If they have not seen your area before it sounds like they may have seen something very similar. You cannot possibly please everyone and at my age I don't even try anymore.:W

Did You Survive the TV Broadcast Changeover?

Today is the long, and I mean long awaited changeover for those not on satellite or cable. Did everything go as planned or are you still having problems??:h

RE: Whats wrong with this truck?

I am not sure about the newer motor, I had the 7.3 and drove them in commercial service. Some of them had 300-450k on on them and they still had not been overhauled. But with the economy the way it is the cars and trucks are selling for whatever they can get and whatever the market will stand. PS, here I see your King Ranch in a 4x4 with the right miles going for around $6K in private sales. It's really disgusting when you paid as much as you did for it.

RE: Whats wrong with this truck?

You might want to look at the mileage on it @ 134K! And values right now in books mean nothing. I looked at Kelley Blue Book and found a trade in adjusted for the miles to be about $18K in good condition and I gave it lots of options that the Lariat should have on it from the factory. We had a very popular truck that we just did not need any longer that was still in warranty with very low miles as was as new. The Wholesale common figure for it was $18.5K and retail was almost $22K. We tried to sell it privately a year ago for $16K for 4 months and then traded it in for $14K. They are selling new trucks very cheap today, if they can at all! And while those of you want to ping on Fords I have one for you. What the difference between a real rock and the "like a rock" Chevy? The rock has a better finish and is more reliable than the Chevy. Somebody has to step in there.:B

RE: Refurbished items

Make sure that your incoming lines for the telephone are fused if that's required in your area. When I first came back to AZ I had lots of problems with phones getting zapped. Then a phone tech was looking at my old box where the lines come in and told me that I had an old one and that the new ones were fused to stop what was happening to me about every other year. He replaced the box.

RE: Digital TV Antenna?

Pointing the antenna is more critical with the new signal. I have also noted in the broadcast patterns they show on the internet for AZ anyway comparing the signals old and new that the new ones don't reach out as far.

RE: Did you know this about Lightning Storms?

I was told by someone that grew up in an area prone to lots of lightning that if your hair stands up on your arm get low on the ground. I don't know how valid that is. Our monsoon seasons here in AZ can get quite severe at times. I have only lived in this state at total of about 12 years now but I have had several close calls over the years. I have had 3 strikes within 100' or less to me that really got my attention. At one time an apartment I lived in had a masonry wall about 7' high topped with wrought iron railing about another 12" high for decoration. I will assume the build never thought about the fact that when that's all wet that it makes a great lightning rod. One evening during a bad storm in the SE corner in 1967 while serving with the Army at Fort Huachuca that wall got struck by lightning. It took out our picture window in our apartment about 60' away and scared the H*** out of my first wife. Concussion from the strike I guess got the window. After that the owner the the property took the iron down from the wall. Good idea! I love to fish the local lakes here but when clould come in and look menacing I go home. I am not taking any chances as I have seen that water struck many times. I understand that FL however, the home of the OP is the lightning capital of the country.

RE: TV volume may be turned down on commercials

Just remember folks, the same folks you are trying to stop from doing this stuff are the ones that take your legislators to lunch and such. I don't see much of a chance of it going through but we can dream on.

RE: TV volume may be turned down on commercials

Me too. I have complained about volume levels for years. My satellite service tells me it's the channel and they have no control yet many of the ads for DirecTV, my provider, are some of the loudest of all so tell me that isn't a bunch of BS. Yep, the provider can't control the levels of what is going out of their system. Sure they can't! :M I have to reduce the volume levels by 1/3 sometimes and it ought to be illegal!
