RE: WDH for 2500 Truck necessary?

You might not need it, but it will feel better connected going down the road.

RE: anyone towing 12000 lb 5th wheel with 3/4 ton pick up

I pull a 11.7 lb fifth with a 3/4 & it's OK, but I wouldn't go much heavier.

RE: Diesel Fuel

cbconway Your VP-44 is a fuel lubricated pump, and will not be hurt by Bio-diesel; in fact, the lubricity of bio is higher than regular #2.

RE: Question for Ford 7.3 owners?

As long as the rest of the truck is holding up keep it & enjoy. You may need a tranny rebuild sometime, but wait for it.

RE: Need Good Advice on a TV (which make & is stick ok?)

Try the NV5600 6 speed. I go thru 3 gears getting to the other side of the intersection.

RE: Searched but still confused....LOL

Multiple batteries, and a TV that works off of 12 VDC will do better.

RE: Roof Meets Tree. Options?

I would replace the trim, and use Eternabond on the hole.

RE: RV spots

Looks like the campground on the Guadalupe river in town.

RE: DIY PVC Pipe Projects

I made a beach cart out of PVC & a couple old wheels.

RE: Major downsize, anyone else?

I'd rather go to a truck camper than a small trailer. Then I could pull a boat or something like that.

RE: After market exhaust

There you go we have a winner. Lower EGTs are the primary benefit of a larger exhaust on a diesel.

RE: Cummins diesels and mileage

It's not just the warranty, but federal law your breaking when you do the deletes.

RE: Diesel Additives ?

It really depends on your truck, and it's injection system. I have an 01 Dodge with a Cummins. It has a Bosch VP-44 high pressure injection pump. The pump is fuel lubricated, and fuel cooled. It was made when fuel didn't get washed to get the Sulfur out of it. I have seen the data from tests done on todays diesel fuel, and the scar tests. For these reasons I use 1oz two stroke oil to the gallon.

RE: Do Not Mix Wheel Bearing Greases

Best bet is to fully clean the bearings, and re-grease with new synthetic.

RE: Scary Big City Driving?

Not in a city, but on a narrow two lane blacktop road running from a hurricane. That was the first time I found out I could turn the whole rig around on a narrow two lane road.

RE: How much to carry along

What ever it takes to make my weekend fun, and momma happy!

RE: Aluminum wheels

I actually prefer a steel wheel. If you have a flat you can drive a ways on a steel wheel, and if you dent it a hammer brings it right back.

RE: E15 may kill engines

What phillyg said "corn-based ethanol as a fuel additive, in one word, sucks, and its usage in the US is purely politically based" is the truest statement in this thread. I don't have a problem burning the E-crap, but did have to go up to the medium blend in my motorcycle. The E-crap regular doesn't have the same energy content as the old regular fuel. If engines sit over a month they should have Sta-bil in the fuel.

RE: 5ver for a 3/4 ton couple

With a SRW truck I would stay around 12K lbs @ 32ft as a max. Also most 2nd gen Dodge/diesel/Manual trans/W-camper package & tow package are really 1 ton SRW trucks. Look underneath and see the D80 diff & factory overload springs with a big stabilizer bar.
Kennedycamper 01/31/13 01:26pm Fifth-Wheels
RE: Tow vehicle

I would say over 10K lbs to go diesel.
