RE: Question for Ford 7.3 owners?
Get a 6.0L tranny cooler and a tranny for BTS with TC lockup. A DP-tuner chip is tow mode and you will have a strong running truck for years to come.
RE: Questions about diesel?
...Might want to look around a bit before spending money for a 6.7 Ford...these engines are now getting some miles on them and the typical Ford problems of the past are reappearing...over at the Blue KoolAid Forum, there are now multiple threads discussing EGR cooler failures...the fan boys want to play it down but one of the many repairs I had on my POS 6.7 Ford was a plugged EGR cooler at 59000 miles...one poster had problems at 138000 miles and the dealer wants $2000 to fix it...:S
...of course the resident Blue KoolAid King had to try to muddy the water by dragging the 6.7 Ram into the discussion :h
When one adds in the known warranty rejections of $10000 fuel system replacement, erratic transmission reports and multiple problems with emission sensors...well there has to be a better choice...
I am very glad to be rid of my POS 6.7 Ford...before the prices start dropping like a barrel over Niagara Falls...:B:B:B
...but I do have a very nice Titan Tank for a CC SB I need to get out of my garage!!!!
Regards
Plugged EGR's have been a problem for all 3 diesel ever since they had to have them. Im sorry you had a bad experience with your ford. But you don't think people have had the same problem for chevy or dodge?
...plugged EGR valves or plugged/failed EGR coolers...Ford had a huge problem with failed EGR coolers in the 6.0 debacle...and plugged oil coolers...I have not seen these kinds of issues with the other manufacturer's.
You are correct...all the manufacturers have had some problems...but almighty Ford was supposed to have eliminated these EGR cooler issues with the DEF equipped 6.7 engine. As the miles pile up on this engine, issues are arising that are disturbingly similar to the previous two Ford debacles. Here is a list of the problems I had:
Fan clutch assembly 3500 miles
Rear tail light wiring problems 11,000 miles
# 4 fuel injector 26000 miles
Complete HPFP failure 35000 miles
DEF sensor issues 45000 miles
Satellite receiver in the radio quit working 49000 miles
EGR Cooler replacement 59000 miles
More DEF and emissions CEL's that dealers could not fix 59,100 miles
I guess when I used to joke that I was a Beta tester...I wasn't joking...yep...that new 6.7 Ford is a great engine...:o:o:o
The wise old regulars on this great site tried to warn me about "vetted over time"...I guess some of us learn the hard way...
Over at the "Blue KoolAid Forum", they are keeping the problems stifled by careful censorship...and liberal doses of Blue Koolaid mixed with measured personal attacks on complaining owners...but the word is spreading...
Shame on Ford...146 and counting
Regards
Everybody on the internet knows the problems you have had with your ford. But everyone of your there are 100 or more that will never have a problem that nobody will hear about.
RE: Curb jumping options
It is real easy put your truck in 4 wheel drive low range and back right over the curb with ease.
This is a bad idea as there is a danger of some cords getting broken inside the tire as all the trailer weight is concentrated in a small area of the tire as the tire climbs over the curb. Down the road on your next trip these broken cords begat a few more broken cords and KABOOM goes the tire, which generally wrecks havoc with the fender well and dents on the side of the camper from flying rubber.
There is a danger getting out of bed every morning also.
There is always someone with a smart assed comment. So do you what you want.
I'm speaking from experience. It took me a few times of backing over a curb before I figured out it was damaging my fivers tires. Now that I have gone to the xps ribbed tires they can take a curb, but most other's get damage.
Your are not going to hurt your tires by backing over a curb. If your tires are already shot then no its not gonna help. My comment was smart ass just saying stuff happens.

I was once a Ford man for 45 years, came diesel time I bought a Ram with a Cummins best decision I have made!
You could have a bought a 7.3PSD and been just as happy or a duramax.

RE: Ford F250 Diesel Advice
I love how dodge and GM guys act like they have never even heard of a EGR, turbo, or headstuds being done on any cummins or duramax.
RE: H&S Taking a Ford 6.7 to the Breaking Point
It is the guys (& gals) doing the truck pulls that are really doing all the research and testing as to what a diesel and drive train will take before it blows up. I love watching it on the Speed Channel. Don't seem to see too many Fords, mostly Duramax/GM and Cummins/Ram. I'm sure you need deep pockets to get trucks to pull that much weight.
That is why I'm not in it like I used to be. When I first started pulling you could compete with a street able truck. Now the guys I used to pull against are building $10,000.00 engines.
$10,000.00 for an engine build to win $100.00 first prize? The math just doesn't work out for me anymore.
If you think you are going to win the 8,000# unlimited diesel classes expect to spend $30,000.00 just for your engine alone. $5,000.00 for a tube chassis, $5,000.00 for a fiberglass body with fancy paint job, $10,000 for Rockwell axles. $500.00 each x4 for wheels and tires, $2,500.00 transfer case, $2,500.00 for a reverser transmission, $1,500 for a clutch.
Also remember there is the hydraulic steering, driveshafts, and wiring. And that is just the truck that pulls the sled. You still have to have some way of transporting it.
Super mod is the big diesel class your talking double the money you have mentioned. This is my uncle truck

You don't happen to know his numbers do you?
I don't know for sure. Its the second year of the truck. The first years it was a 12v the second he built a 6.7 cummins. He also has a 1941 Power Wagon with a 12v.

RE: How to choose the correct Weight Distribution Hitch?
You will be fine with 12k hitch.
I will? I'm reading that with a large weight rating like this that it will be a pretty darn rough ride ... I don't do much traveling at all ... Just driving to our local mountains that only not an hour or two away straight up!
I still would like a smooth ride though.
This 12k is a steal ... I found out if I buy the sway control seperate I can get the WD hitch kit for $199
Gonna be hard to beat that.
Just don't know what to do know
It will ride like a truck pulling a trailer. It will be fine.

RE: Strange Interaction Between 4WDSwitch and A/C
Hello Streethog,
I'm the guy who was asskign about the vacuum leak problem between the 4WD and A/C, and you gave me solid suggestions for tracking down the problem. I'm hoping you can help me a bit more. First, I must explain that I'm totally blind (my wife does the driving) but I do have years of mechanical experience on cars and trucks, so I do know my way around an engine and drive components. Although I've never owned a diesel before, I've changed transmissions, differentials, brakes, water pumps, etc. so you get the idea. Now that I'm not able to actually see things, I do most by feel, where Ican. I've located the vacuum lines (pretty small and rigid lines) into each hub as you described, and tried to trace them up through the engine compartment to the module you described, but have not located it yet. I haven't noticed the buzzing noise you describe, and doubt I can over the engine noise. What is the specific location of this module, and how might you describe its shape? And if I do need to replace either of the hub components themselves, would that require pulling wheel bearings, or is it like working on the brakes?
Thanks for any further pointers. I'm not thinking Iwant to spend a bunch of money to have a mechanic do this, and if I'm not able, I may just find a way to plug the lines and use the hub locks manually.
Thanks, Dave
You are a freaking stud to be able to do all that.
RE: Electric Awnings?
I have manual and my dads is power and we both tie ours down. We have been in good wind storms and never rolled them in. We have rolled them because of snow.
RE: Strange Interaction Between 4WDSwitch and A/C
You have a vacuum leak. Its a common problem on fords nothing to work about. But you might not be going into 4wd if you hubs are locked in manually.
