RE: why would you do that?

We also bought a fifth wheel with a huge residential sized shower, but I will continue to use our campground's big, private, clean, hot showers. I'll use mine when the public showers are occupied or when the mosquitos or weather change my mind. To each his own.

RE: Cougar HC 321RES window problem

You noticed that too? Yeah, what is up with that? And the fact that you have to be a contortionist to open the slider window by the dining table.
Not to start complaining about my beloved camper, but a 6'+ person must have installed the bath vanity cabinet. I'm not short, but I still have to stand on tiptoes to see in the mirror. What the...?
The 321RES is a beautiful unit and we're on our 3rd summer with it, but I would welcome a jingle from Keystone so I could give them my feedback to improve the stupid stuff.

RE: Metal Detector owners

We only stay at one campground and we do use a metal detector for fun. The campground manager knows we have one and called us to action last year when someone lost their carkeys on the beach. Yep, we found 'em.

RE: New slant on Walmart camping.

On the local news last night.
It's called urban camping.
If your favourite watering hole is far from home but within walking distance to a Walmart just bring the RV. Party hardy, walk to your bed, drive home in the morning. Both Walmart and the law say it's ok as long has you don't bring the party to the lot with you. Keep it quiet and clean, keep the drunks off the road.

RE: Any opinions on the Sabre 33RETS-6?

The brothers are not twins, but look like they could be, so the double-takes will be interesting.
I am definitely heading to the Forest River Forum. So long Keystone...will miss you fine folks.
The unit is still being built and is scheduled to be enroute from Indiana to Minnesota on the 27th. Dealer is ligting a fire under them, but we're patient people, and we're hoping it's ready by the 4th of July week while we're on vacation.

RE: Any Advice On This?

You named several of the reasons we won't travel with a dog or any pet. But I can understand your need for a companion. How about a cat? They tend to be more self-sufficient when left alone.

RE: Any opinions on the Sabre 33RETS-6?

I'm lucky to be able to say that neither length nor weight matter one bit, for now anyway. We have a coveted seasonal site. My BIL just bought the exact same model and talked us into one too. It's a done deal. We've received all good reveiws. We'll be side-by-side all summer beginning the 4th of July.

RE: How long until I get it

We just ordered our Sabre 33RETS. It's in production and scheduled to be delivered to the dealer just before the 4th of July holiday.

RE: 18 snacks you can cook in a mug in the microwave

Tomorrow I will officially be an empty-nester. No teenage eating machines at home = no need for giant pans of anything. I am still the dessert police for my husband, and this is the perfect compromise.

RE: Picture From Last Saturday Night....

Boy, what a bunch of cranky hanky's.
If you want to camp in TOTAL peace and quiet, solitude and in total darkness, stay home or boondock somewhere.
No...
If you want to watch a big screen TV on the side of your RV, stay home or boondock somewhere.
The campground, where people are trying go get away from the lights and noise, is for peace and quiet after dark.
Wrongo! Don't include me in your group. I work in the dark in peace and quiet, and I need people, noise and fun to relax.
We did this once and had every kid in the campground sitting on blankets watching Finding Nemo...and I don't even have little kids. We made a few new adult friends too. They all called me "movie mom" that weekend. It was an absolute BLAST!
Unfortunately, I now have a grey camper and will have to come up with Plan B to continue this nighttime fun.

RE: Any opinions on the Sabre 33RETS-6?

A park model is not an option at the campground we're at for several reasons. And we do plan to pull it around someday.

Any opinions on the Sabre 33RETS-6?

Thinking about moving to this model from a Keystone product, and would appreciate any experiences with floorplan and construction. This is our first 5th wheel. We don't care about weight or hauling, since it won't move.

RE: first aid kits

Little did I know that my 2-week-old first responders training would come in handy when I was called to a full body burn in the campground. My kit had only a pair of gloves to use. A CPR barrier was almost necessary, but my kit didn't have one. I'm buying a couple of decent kits ASAP.

RE: Baked Beans Recipies

Here's a recipe for some of the best baked beans you ever ate. If you bake these in the oven, use a couple teaspoons of liquid smoke.
WICKED BAKED BEANS
(Beans that will even make Chili Heads happy)
6-8 strips of bacon cut into 1/2 inch squares
1/2 Medium onion, diced
1/2 Bell pepper, diced
1 - 2 Jalapeño Peppers, diced (seeding is optional)
2-28 ounce cans Bush’s Baked Beans (original)
1-20 ounce can of pineapple chunks, drained
1 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 Cup ketchup
1 Tbs. dry (ground) mustard
Sauté bacon pieces in fry pan until crispy and remove from pan with a slotted spoon. Sauté onion, bell pepper and jalapeño pepper until tender.
In a large mixing bowl combine beans, pineapple, brown sugar, ketchup and dry mustard. Stir in bacon pieces and vegetables. Pour into a 12X9 or a deep 9X9 aluminum baking pan.
Place in a 220-250° smoker for 2 1/2 – 3 hours (make sure temperature of the baked beans reaches 160° ) or place in a 350° oven and bake for 1 hour.
NOTE: If you are making these beans as a side dish for Kansas City style pork ribs, smoke the removed skirt meat for 1-1 1/2 hours, then dice the skirt meat and stir into the Baked Beans.
I made these! Incredible!!

RE: Easy individual micro cakes

How in the world have I never heard of this?? Something new? I rarely bake sweets for my DH. I say no, and he vetos my decision with a run to the DQ. This may just be a good compromise. Cake mixes made my weekend camping grocery list.

Campfires...good in moderation

This happened two days ago. The moral of the story is common knowledge but bears repeating.
A dad and his buddies at a neighboring site thought that racing fuel would make a good campfire starter. The flame is invisible and will ignite in a fireball. Unfortunately, his sixteen year old son was in the line of fire and is receiving skin grafts as I write this.
Obviously, firewood and paper are the only things that belong in a firepit.
Secondly, update your first aid kits. Per the paramedics, it should at least contain gloves and a CPR barrier. Keep room temp water and clean sheets on hand.
I'm no nurse, but I like to think that a little preparation and knowledge went a long way.
