RE: Grand Canyon cell phone reception

Ooops, sorry. I was misinformed. I should know better than to pass on info I have not personally known or at least state it was something I had heard; not personal experience. As was this.

RE: Rocky Mountain National Park / Estes Park

We lived in Estes '95 - '02 and been back to the area 3 times since. IMHO, all the RV parks in Estes have deteriorated terribly. No hookups in the Park even if you could get in at this late date.
Last year we stayed at Riverview in Loveland - and it was great. Yup, you have to drive up to Estes but we would not stay there again. Last time we stayed in Estes was three years ago.
But LOVE Rocky.

RE: Grand Canyon cell phone reception

You can get out with Verizon in certain VC areas of the G C South Rim but, obviously, nothing IN the Grand Canyon! :-)

RE: RV Park for Zion and Bryce NP?

I would avoid Zion River (high priced, ethics issues, etc) and stay at Zion Canyon in Springdale. And Ruby's for Bryce.

RE: Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

elmorc - that looks like a great idea on my paper map. Then I went to Google Maps!
From Roper Lake SP it is 141 miles to Alpine on the 191 for 3h33m. Coming back on the 180 is 146 miles for 3h6m. That is a day of nearly 300 miles and close to 8 hours without stops.
And, obviously, we would want to stop for photos / coffee / potty, etc.
We may go up the 191 for a while and turn around...maybe Hannigan Meadows. That looks like a total of 235 miles and about 6 hours driving time.
Much more doable.

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

To us - a QUIET walk in the woods or on a seashore enjoying God's beauty in it's true form is the best way to enjoy nature. And we don't interfere with others enjoyment - our footsteps and voices are very quiet.
IMHO

RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

In the Fall of 2011 we spent a week at Grizzly in West Yellowstone and 4 nights at Colter. It was wonderful and we never regretted the way we did it. We were our early and then in the evenings for photo shoots and far less traffic. And to see animals. And sunrises and sunsets. Great places. Enjoy. Be safe.
(For images of those areas you can go to www.LaurenBarbara.com and click on Wanderings on the left and go down to Wyoming. Of course, feel free to look at any other places as well! :-) )

RE: West bound trip & need advice

West Yellowstone (Grizzly is good choice you made) to Tetons is not only too long for a day trip you can hit traffic jams due to crowds and "animal jams" (people stopped in the middle of the road to look at an animal). I would definitely recommend against it. Stay at Colter in the Teton NP. Rafter J in Mt. Rushmore area and KOA in Badlands.
Are you coming to Denver / Pikes Peak after Yellowstone or - presume that is what you mean. If so, do the 287 / 80 / 25.
At Pikes Peak area I recommend Cheyenne Mtn SP for the stay.

RE: Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

Made reservations at Roper Lake for a few nights. Just gathering input and will see. Have done mountain roads that are single lane rough kinda washed out gravel shelf - not fun but can do it. But, as each year goes by, I find myself less accepting of things that I am not sure I am going to like! :-)

RE: Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

Lived in CO for 8 years and have driven it lots more in the 10 years we have been here. But not so good at shelf roads anymore with unprotected dropoffs.
I drove "Oh My God" road three times in Suburban going down so on the outside. Oh My God! (Look that up on Google sometime!). One time met a road grader coming up....that will REALLY pucker you up!
DW Barbara and I have driven many hundreds of thousands of miles so don't need to stress ourselves.
But this has kinda been on the bucket list and will be in the area so thought I would ask.
It would be different if we had a Jeep or something but a one ton xcab long bed is another consideration.
Maybe the Mt. Graham is going to be the limit. We like FHU's but can do Roper without sewer - looks like water and elec so can do a few days. As long as the H2O is at the side and not carried.
Thanks for input.

RE: Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

Too much of a hurry and not stating myself well :-)
(Have daughter in from London finishing up 2+ week visit and son / dil / 7 & 4 year old grandchildren just left after 6 days is a contributing factor to that as well as wanting to get away!)
Will be doing this ONLY with the truck; NOT the 5er!!! But that still might be too much.
Thanks.

Hwy 191 --- Clifton - Alpine, AZ

I tried to find info on this doing "Search" but no real luck.
Might be in the area right after Memorial Day and wondering if that road is doable in one ton ext cab with SRW. I am used to mountain driving but narrow shelf roads generally exceed our comfort level....been there, done that a lot and just not doing it so much anymore.
Thinking of staying in Roper SP for a couple of days just so we can do it. Other suggestions welcome but need room for 35' 5er with 3 slides.
Input please and thanks.

Kinda like ---- is the glass half full or half empty! :-)
Both are spectacular - and very different. Having been to both several times I would be tough to suggest. You cannot regret going either way.
Good luck on your decision making!

RE: A month in the great northwest. What would you do?

We live south of Tucson and have done the route to Cannon Beach several times and plan to do it again - God willing - in 2015. Route takes you close to the desired South Rim of the Grand Canyon and up the 395. Have done the northern CA once in RV - couple of times more in car - and it is beautiful....can be tough to get to though. Will leave that up to others.

RE: A month in the great northwest. What would you do?

Once again I agree with 4runner guy. And the repeated advice on this Forum....too much it too little time.
We have always divided ours into two parts - up Glacier / Banff way on one trip and the OR Coast / WA / Columbia River, etc on another. Throw in Yellowstone / Teton and you have a full trip on either. You could spend a month in CO. And UT has great spots also.
The journey is the destination in many respects.

RE: Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch - Picacho, AZ

Yes, at Picacho Peak --- not at the Ostrich Farm! :-)
There is camping at Picacho Peak at the state park and also a very nice (55+) RV park there (right next to Rooster Cogburn).
And, great hiking at Picacho Peak - summiting is a challenge!
