RE: Security camera DVR for home use

If your looking to record while you are traveling, then you should get a mobile type recorder because their hard drives are more stable when being bounced around in a vehicle.

RE: Smoke detector and Carbon monoxide detector going off

Look at the manufacturer's information on the bottom of the units. Some cheaper CO and Smoke detectors only have a 3-5 years life expectancy. So when the mh was built the detectors were a year old or so already, you could already have failure. In fact my installed CO detector went bad the first year. I replaced both down the road with combination units that were battery operated. This reduces the paristic load on your batteries.

RE: drapes, curtains

Call your local 4-H office and ask them if they know of anyone who is into doing sewing. There are a lot of people who sew and I'm sure you can find one who could do exactly what you want.,

RE: Water smells like antifreeze

My guess is that during the winterizing process, the dealer did not blow out the antifreeze after it was pumped through the system. The best way to winterize in the future is; 1) drain all water lines out; 2) blow water out of lines by use of an adapter on fresh water inlet connector; 3) close bypass valve on hot water tank; 4) drain tank by taking out drain plug; 5) place drain plug back in hand tight after water stops coming out; 6) pump antifreeze in the system using the mh pump; 7) then blow out the antifreeze using the water inlet connection. This also winterizes the P-traps.
Having done this for years, I've never had any freeze damage here in upstate NY; and by blowing the antifreeze out, there is only minimal residue left, so it is gone just by putting new fresh water in the spring and doing a short flush. Don't need to flush more than a couple of minutes.

RE: Where can you go or not go?

First of all, if you can manage to buy a Class A, then I would go in that direction. Class C's are generally smaller, have less storage space and overall are rated to carry less weight and less people. There are not many parks that cannot fit a Class A. In fact there are parks that will refuse a Class C, particularly in the Las Vegas area.
But to get back to which unit, with 2 children that will grow up and a visiting Grandma/Grandpa you really would be better with a Class A. And don't worry about driving it, the rules about fitting into a particular campground or turning in a specific area are the same with a Class A.

RE: Quick and Dirty Inverter install??

There are a number of articles that discuss inverters. But first you must remember that your 120 volt power out will not last long on a single RV house battery. To get 600 watts out on normal house power uses 5 amps of power. When inverting you will need 50 amps out of a 12 volt battery to provide the 600 watts. That being the case, a single battery will be dead in no time of continuous use.

RE: Coach advice...Tiffin or Fleetwood?

Remember to look at real quality! Hands down that will be Tiffin. Look at long term support and that will be Tiffin. Look at who's having financial problems and that is Fleetwood!
Tiffin comes out front.

RE: 2007 Saturn Vue

I tow a 2004 Vue and have never had any problems. I use a Unified Tow Brake system with Blue Ox Towbar and baseplate. Towing Worldis a good place to look for good prices on these items.

Winegard Wingman Add-on

I'm not an engineer who specializes in antennas, but I looked at the Winegard Wingman today and am I disappointed in what I saw. The Winegard Wingman is made of plastic except for 6 metal "wings". There is no metal to metal contact with installed antenna at all. My experience has been antennas need metal to metal contact to make an improvement in signal strength. And this device doesn't have it. Am I missing something, and has anyone tried one and did it improve your reception?

RE: Reserveamerica- How do people get reservations?

ReserveAmerica is only a couple of miles from where I work, so fortunately, I know individuals who have family members who work there. The best way is to call them, but..... make sure you have them repeat everything once the reseration is made, and check back later the same day. The computer set up is not great with the various rules for all the different facilities, and the call takers aren't all that great either, because it's just a low paying job.

RE: Different opinions on small solar panel

It is designed to charge your house batteries to offset the draw on them from other parisitic loads, i.e. propane sensor, CO detector. Though you will find many Mh, the CO detector is wired to the engine battery.

RE: Mobile Office

I put together a Mobile Command Post several years back for my work. The unit was built new from a command post type manufacturer. I can tell you that there is only one manufacturer that can strip out the RV components and still have the body stay together and that is Winnebago. None of the other manufacturer's would build a command post nor would they state theirs would work.
We ended up buying a unit from LDV Corp in Wisconsin that is about 30 feet long on a Freightliner Utilimaster Chassis for about $180000. Advantage with this type of unit is that the roof is part of the body and therefore there is no roof maintenance required. All of the outsides are aluminum, and they put 3/4 inch plywood on the inside, which you can mount anything virtually to the walls.
They custom build and you would not likely need many of the components we had put in such as a camera system and elevated camera tower unit ($13,000). Good luck.

RE: Motorhome Storage - Central Vermont

Depends on how long you want to store it or when, you might check with the local county fairgrounds, because many of them also rent space.

RE: Best Portable Grill

You may want to look at the Magma Gills we've had one for our boat for nearly 10 years and it's still in excellent shape. Parts are easy to get, and the flame does not blow out easily as it's often windy out on the water. We have the small round unit, and have legs to take it with us when were camping.

RE: Taking care of homebase

For someone in New York State with the way costs are going here, I would sell the house and go full time. Don't claim NY as a residence either - that will save you thousands of dollars in income tax that will allow you to have more fun.

RE: Tiffin factory tour

We went down to Alabama last May specifically to visit the Tiffin Factory, and if you are interested in buying one, it's something you need to do. If you are not planning on buying one, well then it's still good to do, because it may give you insight on how your rig may have been put together.
One of the most impressive parts of the tour is the fact that you can look at anything, and speak with anyone. You do not have to follow a yellow line or look down from a platform along the wall. You also are not restricted from taking pictures anywhere.
I can tell you we were not disappointed, we learned alot, and in my case, my wife enjoyed it also.
So if you are looking at buying a Tiffin, it's a must do before you buy or order. In fact you can set down with a factory person and spec your unit out and they will give you a print out to take to your dealer to make your order. If you are not, you'll still enjoy the tour with "Red".

RE: Just got back from the Sacramento RV Show

Lazydays probably has more financing options then many other dealers out there so that they can continue to sell.
Camping World (aka Affinity Group) has been down rated and in the financial news they were given only about a 45% chance of survival now.
But on the other side of the card, New York State Campgrounds are having a bonus year in reservations. So someone is still camping.
