RE: Christmas City, Ariton, AL

Thanks for the replies. The Christmascity site asks for a password, which I tried, but it would not take.
However, on the lasr site, I got their email address, so I will send them a request for info.
It just sounds like a neat place to visit for a couple of days before Christmas!

Christmas City, Ariton, AL

Anyone ever heard of this or been there? I think I had a post last year inquiring about it. I can only find a little info on the 'Net, but it's described as having lots and lots of lights, plus little stores and restaurants and music and is open Thanksgiving to the end of the year--like a little Christmas village
If anyone has any information, I would love to hear about it.
Thanks.

RE: pets in trailer

The post about leaving a note on the window with your cell# is a good idea.
I also printed some cards with our name and cell phone#, and a note that we are staying in __________RV park and we have a dog inside. We carry one of these cards when we leave the RV for several hours. This is in case we have an accident, someone will know about our baby.

RE: NASCAR does it again

Big NASCAR fan here....but - I'm starting to loose the love.
Ryan Newman's post CRASH interview was very interesting..He slammed nascar for:
restrictor platesyellow line rulesno bump drafting rules
He says it is creating boring racing for the fans and drivers.
Not a good race today,
We were watching that race today and Ryan Newman's CRASH, and interview afterward. He really said it like it was, didn't he?!!

RE: Thanksgiving camping...where you going?

We'll be at Twin Creeks RV park in Gatlinburg, the first time ever away from home at Thanksgiving! Daughter and son-in-law will be involved in something at their church on that day, so they gave us their blessings to be away!
Not sure if we will search for a restaurant or simply prepare Thanksgiving dinner in the RV.

RE: Welcome "Checkers"!

How sweet! It made me think of a hamster my daughter had when she was little--his name was Cecil (pronounced SESel). He was so tame he would sleep with her. Hmmmm, wonder how our little terrier would react to a hamster?
Thanks for the pics.

RE: What's to See in Arkansas?

We spent a week or so in Mountain View, staying at the RV park adjoining the Ozark Folk Center. The folk center is really nice and so is downtown Mt.View, where people gather around the Courthouse square and play music and just hang out. We ate at a little soda fountain that was neat.
We also were in Hot Springs, and there were several places to visit there that were interesting.
And depending on your route, check out Highway 7; it is on a list of the most scenic drives.
Have fun!

RE: What is your favorite Fall/Winter RV meal?

We like stews or chili with cornbread muffins; or chicken pot pies;
All prepared inside, but hot chocolate to sip outside!

RE: Looking for a RV Park/Resort on Gulf coast Mississippi

You might check with Majestic Oaks in Biloxi. We have stayed there several times, and while they were not extended stays, I have noticed RV's that appear to have been there a while. It is a nice, clean park, maybe a mile or less from the beach. And we never really noticed the sounds from the trains. We used to stay at Cajun, but they had a lot of damage from Katrina, and I'm not sure if they are back in business.
Wherever you do decide to stay, please notice some carvings along the highway across from the beach in Biloxi. A lot of trees that were damaged and only partially left standing have been turned into works of art.
Have fun!

RE: Bisquick Impossible Pies

Thanks for reminding us of the Bisquick pies--I even have a Bisquick cookbook that I'm going to look back through. I also like the idea of substituting sausage and serving as a breakfast pie.

RE: Rain or Snow, What's worst????

I would take SNOW over RAIN any day! I don't like rain, especially when it rains for days on end as it has done for the past month or so. As a matter of fact, it is pouring as I write this!
Snow, on the other hand, is a rare treat for us in this part of the country. We might get one small snow during the winter, and we're all like a bunch of kids!

RE: Breakfast Casseroles

Well, there's this old standby Breakfast Casserole
6 slices bread (crust removed)
1 lb sausage
6 eggs
2 cups milk
1 1/2 C grated sharp cheddar cheese
salt/pepper
Crumble bread into greased casserole dish
Brown sausage & drain
Mix eggs and milk and salt/pepper
Put sausage on top of crumbled bread, then grated cheese, then egg mixture.
Place in refrigerator overnight.
Bake 350 for about 45 minutes

Any restaurants open Thanksgiving Day in Gatlinburg?

I know that most restaurants close for Thanksgiving Day (and I certainly don't blame them!) but I was just wondering if any of them are open in Gatlinburg.
Thanks for any info.

RE: Hico City park, Hico, TX

I don't know about the park you mention, but we stayed at Tres Rios RV Park in Glen Rose last year and really loved it. The park is nearly surrounded by 3 rivers and one is so crystal clear you can wade in it.
Hico is only about 25 miles away and is a really neat little town. Hope you can visit it. Also there is quite a lot to do in Glen Rose, such as the Dinosaur Park and the Fossil Rim Wildlife park (which we really enjoyed).
