RE: A/C Hard Start Capacitor Install

Most of us in the Appliance Repair field have know for years that putting a hard start kit on a compressor usually only will give it a short life span. I will only use a kit as a last resort and then tell the customer to start looking for a new unit cause in most cases the compressor fails within a year.

RE: Class A spare tires

Have carried a mounted spare in every vehicle I have owned. My father always taught us kids to be able to do it our self when needed. I do not plan to ever be at the mercy of any road service or tire dealer in the middle of no where with a flat tire and no spare.
I have changed everything from small car to large truck tires over the years and have found if you know how to set up a breaker bar and properly move a large tire it's easy for most people. It's all in knowing how levelage works.

RE: Convection Oven --- Stick Home

Right now Whirlpool is the only appliance company that is built here in the U.S. and has the best life span if that helps any.

RE: Good Sam Membership Cards

Membership number and ERS number should be the same. On Star will not tow your trialer. If your TV breaks down Good Sam will tow the trailer to a near by camp ground for you.

RE: Emergency Roadside Service

We dropped AAA several years ago and have had Good Sam ERS since. One tow and 3 tires later and service has always been fast and with the right equipment. I have always carried a spare tire and a bottle jack. I don't have a breaker bar and on the last flat I told them I just need someone with a breaker bar that I had the rest. We were on our way in 45 minutes.
Since it was a pre-holiday driving day yesterday, 2 hours is not a bad response time for Good Sam or any of the big ERS services. If you would have called Good Sam first, you'd been in 3 1/2 hours earlier.
With damage from the tire tread in the wheel well it was best to wait for help to insure nothing major was damaged from the beating before going on.

RE: SEEMS U.S. DOES NOT WANT SNOWBIRD'S

There's more than one boarder crossing and every crossing is different. Just go to one of the other crossings.

RE: Where to buy tires?

Stopped using Sears over 10 years ago for tires and anything else. They would sell you RV tires but could not jack, remove the wheels off the MH, balance the tires, and there general attitude was it was a big truck and we don't work on them. Would go with Camping World or any of the dealers that work on the big trucks.

RE: Camping World

I think you'll find a lot of dealers lots this way now. I know about the only place you find units unlocked is at the RV shows today.

Grandson love them. He does hot dogs and marshmellows. He make sure they're out whenever we have a camp fire.

RE: Out of State Purchase

You do not have to register or pay sales tax to Ohio if you are going to own it in your home state. Have bought several vehciles in Ohio and live in Michigan, the dealer just put a 30 day tag on the vehicles and my state Seceratary State office did the registration and tax.

RE: Considering full-timing with 6 kids... are we nuts?

I grew up camping with my parents, 2 old brothers, and even spent a month in Florida with them in our great big 19' TT back in the 60's.
We spend 20 years in the Air Force traveling. We Started out in 1976 with a Ford Ext. Van with a TEC camping package. That's a 2 burner stove, ice box, 10 gal water tank with hand pump sink, a dining area in back and a fiberglass roof that raised with 2 beds that were placed up there. We had 2 kids and 2 dogs. We travel cross country in that for 2 years then upgraded to a big 19' Class C that had hot water and bathroom. This one when 7 years and upgraded again to a 26' Class A. Our kids still talk about all the fun they had traveling and living up to 6 months at a time in the RV at different campgrounds across the country while we waited to move on base.
Our grandson loves to camp with us when he can now!!
It's all up to the whole family to want to and make fun out of everyday on the road rain or shine. Full timing is not for everyone and that's what you have to look at. The wife and I could pack up tomorrow, hit the road and not look back.

RE: Spark plug change for 2000 RV

The tec I us recommends at least every 36,000 miles or 5 years if you plan to keep the vehicle more than 8 years. He says after about 40,000 miles the plugs start to break down and mileage starts to drop. Spark plugs get very hard to get out after a few years and head damage will occure when trying to remove plugs with years or high mileage (50,000+) on them.
I change the plug in my MH 454 every 3-4 years or 24,000 miles and other vehicles at 30,000 to 35,000 even through the manufacture say you can go 100,000 miles. Spark plugs are a lot cheaper then new heads.

RE: 5 year old "new" motorhome

Look it over hard for signs of water leakage in slides and roof areas. If it's still under warranty would have tires, belts, and all hoses changed along with all fluids. If it's as is do not go above the lowest book valve.

RE: Ambassador Bridge to I-75 South

Open and some construction still in progress but good road south all the way into Ohio if you can handle it. Stay in center lane fron Monroe,MI to the Ohio line since right lane has been beaten up pretty good from trucks.

RE: H1N1-If you saw what I see daily, you'd be really careful!

Grandson had it last week woke up at 4 AM with head ache, fever, and throwing up. Daughter took him to the doctors that morning and by 6 PM he was over it. According to the grandson doctor 90% of people do not get seriously ill from the flu. The grandson has asthma and did not get the shots.
My feelings are to make themself look important the health organizations have to give us the doom and gloom just like the goverment does.

RE: Towing Without Proper Mirrors

Some states it will get you a ticket from the troopers. I have seen a local township cop follow people towing trailers to see if they can see him behind the trailers. Local township cop has written tickets for mirrors, safety chains, lights, and even does walk around when he pulls vehicle over for quick safety check. It's at least a $125 fine for any ticket they write.

We've had Allstate and AAA in the past. Now with Good Sam for several years now, with one tow in mountains in TN and three tires the service has been great.
