RE: Water Heater Problems

OK, before we get into the high dollar stuff, lets go back and look at the free stuff! Most of the water heaters I have worked on in the past ESPECIALLY when you say spider webs, The fuel lines are blocked more than likely. Remove the Gas Line from the water heater, this includes removing the igniter and I believe the thermocouple. This should all come out as 1 unit. Then remove the tiny brass tip out of the gas line and clean it out with some type of Solvent. DO NOT STICK ANYTHING THRU THE HOLE! Use Paint Thinner, Gasoline, anything like that, let it sit for a minute and blow out with compressed air, you should be able to look thru and see daylight. Reassemble and try again. Hope this makes sense and helps.

RE: Shore Power when connected to tow vehicle?

On my Dodge, I know that the Charge Line is cold, but the Brake Controller is hot, which would provide a small power drain. Not sure about the back feed from the Converter or House Batteries to the Truck though. Might have to play and see what happens.

RE: I have no manual, need help with some questions please

Its actually BriantRV or maybe BryantRV not BruantRV, and yes you do have to have a battery on the trailer for the water heater and the refrigerator to work in most cases. Sometimes they will work, but most of the time no. You definitely want the battery in place to control the brakes of the trailer.

RE: Stockton Calif. to Paso Robles ???

We frequently travel 41/46/101 thru Paso Robles headed for the coast. This road is in good condition and has only a minor hill or two to pass over. We start on 41 so I cant tell you which other route is best, but since I travel north and south on 5 and 99 occasionally 5 is usually the easier ride. 99 seems to take more truck beating with out repair.

RE: Cost of Diesel Truck?

When I bought my current truck back in 05, I found it on Autotrader.com I scanned for 300 miles and found it for 21k with only 16k miles. True it is a stripped model, but has Cruise, A/C and a Cummins, was specifically looking for a stick since have not had a good history with Automatics from Dodge. The Truck was an 03 when I bought it, just went over 70k last week. Been to the shop twice, first was a fuel filter covered 100%, 2nd was an ignition switch issue tied to the A/C was 94$. Great Truck! Look outside your area, sometimes the drive is worth the effort! It only took a 6 hour drive each way to go and get it.
Good luck!

RE: Key Question

First thing I did was replace all of the original CH751 key locks on my storage compartments. Cost was about $40 but now no one but me has a key to my storage compartments. The STANDARD CH751 will open almost all manufacturers storage compartments, I wanted just a little more security than that.

RE: Getting power to pup from tv

By the way the black wire of the trailer is the charge line so this is the position you want to tie the charge line of the tow vehicle too.

RE: Getting power to pup from tv

I used to work at an RV Dealership, Use 10 Ga wire. since it is the largest that will fit for the 7 way plug. Install a 7 way plug on your bumper Use a 30 amp resettable fuse inline usually under the hood and make sure that you only tap from a source which is hot with the ignition on. I would stay away from the fuse block! You could create other problems by getting power from the fuse block. down line from the battery usually has a hot ignition pole available. Good luck!

RE: Kids and Setting up Camp

My now 18 y/o has always had chores when setting up camp. Everything from raising and lowering jacks, unloading wood, setting up chairs, starting the fire, to setting up bed inside. This summer we did an all boys weekend where he brought 3 friends, and they set up their own tent, bags, and help cook. A great weekend, but a chore with 3 boys who 2 of had almost no fishing experience. Fun to sit around and listen to them cap on each other. this was right before there high school graduation. So it was a real fun weekend for me to just listen and laugh. He has always gone camping with us except once and he wished he had gone because his friends canceled the event he stayed home for. We plan to go camping near his new college next month in order to visit him and I am sure he will enjoy the time away from school and opportunity to go camping. May eventually give him a tent and some gear since he ought to be able to go himself since the area of his school is relatively close to some great camping. But that will come later!

RE: One Battery or Two?

Do a search on the "12 Volt side of life" anyone got the link? Couldn't find it. But it will give you all the information. I know that my 2 Trojan T-105 6 volts will provide more amp hours than two comparable Trojan Group 27 Deep cycles. 6 Volt batteries are designed to take more abuse, more heavy discharge and last longer. They do cost more, but longevity and deep draw when camping more than justify the cost difference.

RE: What is your campfire profile?

Have a fire for Dinner always, Breakfast most times and Lunch occasionally. We do most all cooking on the Campfire with a Grate or Dutch oven. Always bring our own wood, Lit by Newspaper, Kindling from old fence boards. Bring One width of the truck bed of firewood for each trip, always bring several pieces back. Have always loved to sit around the fire in the evening and morning to warm up on cool mornings and even make coffee over the fire, Rarely use stove in the Camper. Wont camp somewhere I can't have a camp fire. That's just me though, your experience may be different.

RE: With Battery/Without Battery?

Yes, with a battery connected from the Truck you will have power. BUT THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AWAY is to stop the trailer in the event of a separation from the Tow Vehicle. Now you have a run away trailer with no way to stop it! That is reason for battery on the TT.

RE: Two Question

I personally wont go to a campground which wont allow us to have a fire. Yes, I have all the amenities of a 5er, but those are just nice camping sleep amenities. I spend and do most all cooking outside on the fire, since this is how we grew up! Nothing like it. Maybe you don't line smoke, and neither do I but I use all seasoned wood that I bring along and make easy and nice fires! Sorry if our fire offends you, but you know where the exit road is!

My experience with Jalapenos is if you remove the seeds and the veins inside they are mild. My wife who doesn't like spicy stuff can eat them. Too me it is way to weak with no, KICK!

RE: Camping Fee Increase at Calif State Parks

My B@#$%h is with the Fact that I can get a RV Resort in town for $56 per night 3 miles from the State Park. It has all amenities, and lots of activities for kids. The RV Resort is right on the Beach ( Fence/Gate)walk to the beach, the State Park is on the Bay and requires a drive to town to get on the beach. RV Resort has FHU Sites, State Park has W/E Sites. RV Park has close sites, but now out weighs the state park which I chose to use because of cost!

If you have aluminum sided trailer, you could easily take off exterior siding to route the wiring?
