RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

Use a piece of wadded-up aluminum foil. It works as well as most brushes.

RE: Spartan Chassis Wandering?

Having owned three Dutchstar DSDP's, this sounds like a visit to the alignment shop is in order. All of my coaches handled very nicely when in alignment.

RE: Route Suggestions, Dallas to Durango to Grand Junction

Dadio24's suggestion is a good route. I have driven it several times in a 43' motorhome. Route 87 is a good road and not a lot of traffic.

RE: Visiting Lousiana March 9 - 17 Suggestions?

Natchez, MS is worth a visit. Also the drive from Nashville to Natchez on the Natchez Trace is a great drive if you are not in a big rush. Lots to see on the Trace including Tupelo, MS, the birthplace of Elvis. The Trace is a national park that does not permit commercial vehicles so it is nice for RVers who are not in a rush. There is a nice Good Sam RV park at Tupelo which is the midway point on the Trace.

RE: Explanation of Hydro-Hot system

The unit needs routine maintenance annually to keep the burner working at peak performance. I have been pleased with the unit in my coach and it heats my coach and water effectively. Diesel burner can be loud in the middle of the night when it decides to light up.

RE: Explanation of Hydro-Hot system

It is a dual system. It will heat up the liquid using the diesel burner or the a/c side. Just turn it on and it will start to heat your water. When the burner turns off the water is hot. There are both front and rear blower units in your coach for heat. The wall thermostat should be set on furnace in both zones 1 & 2 and each zone will be heated to the temperature set for that zone. When I have access to electrical power, I use the AC side to save disesl fuel. It is necessary for the unit to be turned on and the thermostat set to furnace for the unit to work in my Dutchstar. I think that the unit in your coach maybe an Oasis which is just a different brand.

RE: Passenger Seat

If they are Flexsteel, under the chair is a service ticket (small white tag). You can use this information to order from Flexsteel a "cut & sew" replacement cover with all new polyfoam and springs. Prices have always been very reasonable. I got all new covers for a full size couch for less than $550 including shipping. It fit like new as it was made from the original plans for the couch. It is all based on the information on the service ticket.

RE: How do I confirm it is a spartan chassis?

Look at the steering wheel for the Spartan label.

Midsouth Cummins RV Service Center in Birmingham?

Has anyone had any experience with Midsouth Cummins RV Service Center in Birmingham. My coach is due for its 30,000 mile service and I was considering taking it to them. I expect that they will be rather pricy, but was thinking that they might be worth the price since they are a Spartan service center and Cummins/Onan service center.

RE: REPLACE SOFA/HIDE-A-BED

Make sure the floor is flat under the sofa. Did this change out on my Dutchstar and when removing the sofa discovered that the floor is not flat. Resulted in having to revise my plans. I am still pleased with the final results. Search on the internet resulted in several choices for the type of recliner that we wanted in the under $750 price range.

RE: UAB Childrens Hospital Birmingham Alabama Parking RV Style

Best bet is probably the Hoover RV Park south of Birmingham. It is a full hook-up park in a secure area. Call the City of Hoover at 205-739-7400 or 866-466-8387.

Need Help with Dash Radio Repair

My Coach has a Jensen VR182 dash radio. The back-lighting on the screen has died making the information on the screen difficult to read. I contacted Jensen about repairs and they do not offer such a service. To make matters worse, the model that replaced this unit is larger and will not fit the opening in the dash. Does anyone know of a company that offers repair services on these types of radios?

RE: How do you calculate travel time?

Ditto on the 50 miles per hour. This has proved to be an accurate estimate for a full day of driving. In over 250,000 miles of RV travels, I find that I need to plan on averaging 50 miles per hour when I am making a regular day's run of 300 to 400 miles. This seems to hold true even when I am running interstates.

RE: Tire on a 45'

Toyo M154's have given me excellent service on the last two coaches. Slightly firmer ride, but good handling and little wear.

Duo-Therm Heatpump Issue

My coach has a pair of Duo-Therm heatpumps. The control is a five buttom dual control. I have two issues. First when set to zone 1, the front heatpump does not even show up as a option to be selected. It goes from cool to furnace. The rear unit (zone 2) goes straight to furnace even when set on "heatpump" regardless of the outside temperature. On both units the A/C works fine. I have the reset on the control and get the "FF" screen which means that I have communications between the control and the units. The model of the units are both 630516. Headed to the shop in a week, but would appreciate any thoughts on is this going to be a board problem or something else.
