RE: Newbie First Post

ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) the wifi source is the provider just like DSL is the provider OR the cable internet company IS the provider if there is NO wifi, you will need another way like satellite internet or Cell Modem internet from a cell phone company

RE: Oh, RATS!

i love wildlife & these area's, but i also hunt & fish, and believe in protecting my property & health, I would set death traps inside my RV ( no poison ) and then quietly depose of the bodies, the predators that hunt them will appreciate the free meal, they will not be wasted and there are more than enough of them, they breed profusely to match or exceed the existing food supply

RE: receiver into hitch????

i see where this would clamp the hitch bar, but looks like a pain if you are a person who removes the hitch or carrier very often because the clamp has to go inside the hitch bar being mounted into the receiver http://www.letsgoaero.com/upload/Barrel_Lock_SHP_Hitch_Inside_View.JPG http://www.letsgoaero.com/upload/SHP_B_Mount_Step_1.jpg

RE: receiver into hitch????

drill a hole in the receiver, weld a nut to the hole set a bolt into the nut and tighten, use a second nut on the bolt as a JAM nut to lock the bolt in place these only have to be snug, I suspect you over tighten the factory version and stressed the bolts

RE: Hold off on that GPS purchase...

the Droid has true sat GPS, so do several other 'smart phones' the avg 'feature/dumb' phone uses aGPS ( assisted ) cell tower triangulation so experiences vary with the phone involved you could certainly load maps & perhaps streets&tips or another program, onto a 16gig memory card on a WinMo smart phone

RE: Tether DROID with Netbook & Google Earth

well i tether some 'via usb' everyday, which charges while tethering so it hard for me to tell but I spent the first 3 days almost exclusively using the phones browser for surfing and forum duties and was able to go the day on 1 charge and then re-charge at night, that was only a few minutes of calls but a number of hrs of internet perhaps 4-5 hrs certainly over 3hrs, the large display uses most of the power when doing any thing like maps or internet or video yesterday it was on 80% when i woke up and 40% charge when i connected to the PC about 7pm, after doing my errands and going to the Dr office and using the net and playing bejeweled while waiting around the clinc, did not get out of there until 3:30pm my app was at 1pm I think its one of the better phones i've had in that regard, some people have gotten bad batteries or bad hardware ? I know one guy who got a replacement, his first one ran out of power by 11:30 am, the new one goes all day and is at 80% charge at 5pm

RE: Troubleshooting Batteries and Load with an Ammeter

clamp on ? or inline ampmeter, HOW much drain are you looking for you could use a 10amp inline meter at the fuse panel by pulling the fuses and placing the meter across the fuse connections and see how much power is being used in each circuit, it will work best if you pulled all the circuit fuses and test each circuit with no other loads online, this will show you the drain of each circuit

RE: Question for a Geek

a locked phone will NOT dial out and should NOT make calls and have addon charges, hooked up to a 12v /usb5v phone adapter, it should last for many months, but it maybe necessary to replace the battery every few months ? i've never left a cell phone on constant charge 24/7 ( I have had daily use with PC on a tether-charging cable , battery lasted about a year ) it was unlugged for about 16hrs day and plugged in for about 8hrs verizon has service for tracking family members, they changed the name of it..to 'family locator' it cost $10 a month it allows you to find the phone location via display on you phone or PC login http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/audio/articles/152146/article.html http://products.vzw.com/index.aspx?id=fnd_chaperone sprints service http://www.nextel.com/en/services/gps/family_locator.shtml hope these links & info helps

RE: Tether DROID with Netbook & Google Earth

Droid can be tethered via USB, with PdaNet Android version and the drivers for the A855 moto-droid the needed BT profiles are NOT included in android2 OS to tether via BT Droid moto driver http://www.smilepak.com/temp/Droid_USB_Driver.zip PdaNet for androidhttp://www.junefabrics.com/android/ i'm using the Droid tethered to my laptop download the driver zip file & PdaNet extract the driver exe file, and run it after this is done, run pdanet on the PC do NOT plugin the phone until pdanet asks you to follow the pdanet on screen instructions for connecting procedures after everything is install and ready plugin phone start pdanet on the phone, then click on the pda icon in the task bar and click connect to dis-connect reverse the procedure click disconnect at pc then turn pda off on the phone, then unplug cable NEW info for enabling BT...I have NOT tried this Blue Tooth tethering for Droid

RE: Fuel injected portable generators,,,,soon?

Good point, however existing red and blue gen sets are pricey as it is. Seems to me that this would be "excessive" technology for just a simple generator. many will agree with you, including my self BUT the Gov-ment has its own idea's, CARB here in calif has discussed this, and i expect it won't be long before it becomes mandatory for small engines 'sold here', I hope i'm wrong, but I expect it by 2012 IF not sooner
