RE: Bilstein 5100's on my dually?

Bilstein Blue/YEllow = 4600s
Bilstein Silver/Black = 5100s
Both good shocks... Had the 4600s on my last truck (huge improvement) and will be putting 5100s on my new 2012 Dmax very soon

RE: Bilstein 5100's on my dually?

My shocks have 105k on them, and they are the OEM junk that came on the truck. I have already been shopping, looks like monroe's are the cheapest, rancho's are a little more and bilstein's are even more. I found the bilstein 5100's for about $62/each online. Has anyone tried the cheap monroe's from o'reilly? Opinions?
I don't get why people buy 40/50K trucks and want to put the cheapest shocks they can find on them. Shocks IMO are one area you don't go cheap on. Nothing can improve the ride more than a good set of shocks, so why go cheap. A good set of shocks like Bilsteins will easily last the life of the truck (unlike OEMs).

RE: 2006 extreme mega-lite construction

From what I recall the Megalite's are nearly identical clones of the WW Superlite series. I believe the guy who started up Mega Lite was an ex-WW employee

RE: Need help finding/repairing a water leak and soft spots.

Had a similar problem on my WW and it ended up being the shower drain. Also check the water inlet to the back of the toilet as mine has come loose on more than one ocassion and leaked.

RE: DEF Price

I've only had to refill my DEF tank twice on my Dmax in the first year I ownded it. I think people make it seem like its a big burden on the new trucks when its really not...When you factor in what you spend on diesel over that year the DEF is a just drop in the bucket. My $.02

RE: Extended cab vs crewcab

I have owned both (GM products). Just for the record on the CC backseat. I much prefer the fold down seats of the 800 verse the fold up back seat in the 900 series trucks. I am hoping the next gen goes back to the fold down.
One of my first gripes going from an 02 to my current 2012. You can't store anything behind the back seat... Unfortunately the new trucks will still be fold up from what I have seen on the new 1/2 tons.
Did you really go from a D/A to the 6.0? I just went the other way and couldn't imagine going back.

RE: New shocks for '06 GMC Sierra 1500HD?? (Rear end bounce)

Yes, not to difficult. Just need a good floor jack and a set of jack stands. Let us know how it turns out.
When you take the stock ones off compress them and see if any of them return to full length. WHen they don't, you'll know right away they are shot. Your basically just riding on the leaf springs at this point and that is why your back end is bouncing.

RE: Extended cab vs crewcab

THere are rumors flying around that GM is even going to drop Ext Cabs due to low sales on the 2500/3500 line when the next gen HDs hit the market next year. Only option will be standard or crew with both bed options.

I take that back. I put the 4600s (yellow/blue) on my truck, not the 5100s (grey/black).

RE: New shocks for '06 GMC Sierra 1500HD?? (Rear end bounce)

To the OP your on the right track. Stock GM shocks are garbage and don't last long. Mine were shot at 60k on my 2500HD. I recommend replacing all four. Put Bilstein 5100s on my truck and it was night and day difference. Cant help you on part number but you should be able to find with a simple Google search.

RE: Why idle?

Depending on what vehicle it was. I have heard on some of the newer ones that they have a regen cycle to clean the DPF filter in the exhaust that requires a higher idle for a period of time. Owner might have just left it to complete the cycle and forgot. Or it was a company truck and they don't pay for the fuel.
Not quite true. The newer DPF equipped trucks don't actually regen unless you are moving. For the GM Duramax trucks its about 30MPH. The higher idle is just to keep the EGTs up until you are underway again.

RE: Distance from B&W to GM SB cab back window

Its a FW toyhauler (Eclipse Attitude 28AKLG) wich is a 102" wide body. I posted here figuring I would get more feedback than in the toyhauler section.
I've seen the B&W slider but given its a manual slider I would prefer the Superglide if I need to go that route.
My understanding is that the GM trucks have the furthest distance from the rear of the cab to the rear axle, followed by Ford, and then Dodge being the shortest.

Distance from B&W to GM SB cab back window

Looking to see if anyone can provide measurement on a short bed chevy from the cab to the hitch when its in the furthest back mounting point. I'm trying to determine if the 5er I am looking at will work with a non-slider on my 2012 GMC short bed. B&W is my first choice unless I will need a slider I'll go Superglide.

Normal after a lot of miles and use but these are practically new trucks with the tailpipes COVERED in soot. Every one of them that I have seen has looked the same.

RE: 13 silverado 1500 6.2 question

If your getting better mileage with a 6.2 over the 5.3 then there is something wrong with that 5.3... My family has owned several 5.3 trucks and my brother now has a 12' with the 6.2 and no way does it get better mileage. Gobs of power yes, mileage no...
Who said it got BETTER mileage? 3 of us said it got within 1 mpg of the 5.3. And yes, like any internal combustion engine, if you drive it hard mileage does suffer. BTW I've owned 5.3s a 96,99,05,and an 09. Best I've got with ANY of those was 15/19.
This guy... Can you not read? And by the way there was no 5.3 available in 96.
We love ours and yes, we are getting better mileage than we did with our 05 5.3L. It is easy to tell which engine it has, by looking at the exhaust. 5.3L is out the side behind the tire, 6.2L is straight out the back with a 3" deep throat exhaust. It is one towing beast and will break all tires loose if you romp on it, so you have to get used to 400+HP and the 420# torque. According to our dealer, it is going to be the replacement engine for the 6.0L in the 14 model year.

Ecoboost Observation

I've noticed on every EB truck around my area that the exhaust tips are covered in black soot much like you would expect to see on an older pre-DPF diesel. Are these things naturally dirty in terms of smog, or is something else going on here? It's maybe nothing, but I'm surprised by the looks of the tailpipes on these things considering the ones I have seen have likely only been on the road a few months at most. Are owners reporting high amounts of oil consumption on the EB motors?

RE: Lighter 5th Wheel TH?

Attitude 28AKL is a light weight 5th wheel toyhauler.
_
YUP, thats what I am looking for, just can't find one in stock.
Best RV in Turlock always has a few in stock. Many here will steer you away from them due to them not providing warranty work but since you live in SoCal you could skip the dealer and work directly with Eclipse factory on warranty work if needed.
There is also Toy Hauler Liquidators in the same Turlock/Modesto area who typically stock a few.
