RE: Electric blankets (12v)/Power Packs

we prefer our mattress pad heater. Works much better heating us and the mattress than a blanket which heats us and the whole rest of the camper. Much better use of the heat.

RE: Do I have to lower my camper for indoor storage?

Any time I have ours off the truck I lower it onto 4 6-gallon pails. I figure that the jacks are at their weakest when almost fully extended.

Does anybody have good lie art for pop-up TC?

I am looking for a good side view line art drawing of a pop-up truck camper - any manufacturer will do.

RE: self leveling stabilizer jacks

It seems very strange to me that leveling jacks (which is what OP was really asking about NOT the stabilizers) will twist a frame on a trailer yet when used on almost all class A's and many class C (like ours) to sometimes raise the front over a foot off the ground do not "twist" the frame???
Seems to me that any item designed to travel on roads and that have any type of suspension, need to have flexibility built into the frame or else it won't just twist, it will completely fracture just from road use.:h

OK, just saw my signature, guess it is a 1996 - I hate this forgetfulness that age has brought

RE: Show Your Rig and Truck Camper Towing/Hauling

http://i48.tinypic.com/69p8hc.jpg
We were on our way to Keuka State Park, NY for a family birthday weekend. 2010 Ram 1500 with Timbrens, Jayco Sportster 8' and out 16 1/2' Mirro Craft set up for towing tubers (no fishing this time).
Stopped for lunch in Bath, NY for lunch.

RE: Front Hitch Carriers

One thing more, I have used a single mount front hauler for some time on our class c, and now the double mount hauler on the truck. I much prefer the double mount because it is much more stable. The bikes rocking back & forth is a bit distracting. The double mount is rock stable.

RE: Front Hitch Carriers

I have pics of the double hitch mount hauler that I built for our TC in the below link. The pics show it on our old Dodge where I bolted the 1 & 1/4" to 2" adapter to the place where the tow hooks mounted. On our new to us 2010 Ram, I was able to mount them to the frame drop downs just behind the front bumper.

RE: Air Bags or Helper Springs on GMC 1/2 ton

Well, it isn't a trailer, it is a slide in that he is asking about, so the whole weight (he estimates #1900 loaded)is part of his load capacity. Simple Google search found this:
The 1500's standard payloads, which includes the cab's occupants and the goods hauled in the cargo box, range from 1,705 lbs. to 1,937 lbs. for the two-wheel drive models and from 1,693 lbs. to 1,733 lbs. for four-wheel drives. Payload and towing capacities also depend on whether the pickup is equipped with a 3.08, 3.23, 3.73, 3.42 or 4.10:1 rear axle ratio.
So even without any people in the truck, he is likely to exceed his load capacity and will very likely need some suspension help.

RE: Cake in a Dutch Oven???

Our "cobbler" is just a cake mix with a can of pie filling fruit mixed in. I personally prefer to pour the mix into a heavy duty bunt pan that we found at a garage sale, rather than just into the dutch oven (easier to clean up with less mess on the oven finish).
Another way to go is to bake either cake or brownies in a cardboard box. We have done this many times for family birthdays while camping - always cause for questions. Just line the box with foil, place the cake on a couple of small stones to lift off the ground a couple of inches and put 1/2 dozen or so brickettes around the pan then cover with the box (make sure you leave a 1/2" air space or the brickettes will go out!

RE: Air Bags or Helper Springs on GMC 1/2 ton

I too recently purchased a 1/2 ton though mine is a 2010 RAM 1500. We have a Jayco pop-up TC that when we put it on the new truck made the coil suspension sag pretty good even though the TC is less that the hauling weight of the truck.
After a lot of reading on line and talking to some users of air bags & HD springs, I decided to try the Timbren Suspension System. Basically heavy duty rubber springs that don't effect your ride at all when riding empty but add a perceived additional load capacity of #6000.
I put them on - install took maybe 1/2 hour and not tools for me - and yesterday put the camper back on the truck. The truck now sits level (Ram usually sits about 2-3 inches high in the rear) and after a test ride, I am very impressed with the loaded ride quality. Highly recommend this product.

RE: Anyone know what the make of this trailer is

With the unpainted aluminum siding it is reminiscent of my parent's "Go Tell" 16 footer we camped in when I was a kid. Late 50's would be my guess. We were always told our Go Tell, was a fore-runner of the Shasta line.
