RE: Country Coach on its last breath needs 1 million -updated

On September 11 they laid off everyone except the CEO and CFO and have not built a motorhome since then. Yes, CC use to make excellent motorhomes, but they are dead now. Investing in CC would be like burning money.

RE: Radial Cracks in a Hidden Hitch

There have been a lot of reported problems with the tublar type Hidden Hitch. It is made worse by using an adapter to raise or lower the tow bar. I talked to two RVers who lost their toads while driving.

RE: Air filter configuration

I attended a Farr Filter seminar at a large RV rally and the Farr engineer said there is no right or wrong way to install their filters. He said they work equally well whether the intake is on the end or on the side and the filters are designed to give the same filterazation either way. The motorhome manufacturer decides which end or side is the input for fresh air and which end or side connects to the engine.

RE: Blue Ox Tow Bars.

My Blue Ox towbar latches to either the left or right so it does not move when I drive the motorhome without towing. Most Blue Ox and Roadmasters work this way. Walk around a campround and look at the different towbars. Owners will be happy to talk about their towbars and how they work.

RE: Full-time Indefinitely

You need to have a nest egg for the unforseen. I have given seminars on fulltiming and the expenses of fulltimers. Three couples told me of their problems in the last two weeks. One couple who workamps had to replace a refrigerator, then they blew two tires on their fifthwheel and ripped out part of the RV's side. They ended up buying a complete new set of tires and are getting the FW repaired. Then their diesel truck started smoking and it is in the repair shop now.
Another couple in a motorhome had two blowouts within 30 miles and it damaged their motorhome, took out the air system and wiring and broke the generator exhaust off at the engine. The total repairs were over $10,000.
A third couple just yesterday blew the engine in their towed vehicle. All three of these couples are workamping and living on a limited budget.
Another thing many fulltimers don't budget is replacing the motorhome, fifthwheel, trailer, the car or truck. These things wear out and must be replaced if you continue to fulltime. And then you need an exit plan because it will come some day.

RE: (update) Front Brakes on Spartan Chassis Question

For safety you need to get it fixed. If the right brake shoes are worn I waould have them replace the left brake shoes also. That way you are assured of equal braking.

RE: What's it for?

It serves two purposes. If you need to be towed the tow operator will connect an air hose there to release the motorhome's brakes. You can also connect an air hose to pump up your tires. After the shut-off valve there should be a quick disconnect that shuts off the air pressuse until you connect a hose.

RE: RVIA Show in Lousiville Ky next month

I have attended the Louisville RV Trade Show several times (invited by RVIA), but I won't be there this year. I have talked and dined with many of the manufacturers' presidents and top executives. They love to talk about the newest bells and whistles, but not about quality and warranty support. I have stood in motorhomes while listening to their pitch and then they get disturbed when I remove drawers and look behind them with a flashlight and snap pictures.

RE: Little tv help

You can look at the specs in the owners manual to see if it says anything about storing in cold or heat. But just think about all the RVs in storage and on dealers' lots and I have never read about TV damage from cold or heat. For me, I would let the TV warm up a bit before turning it on.

RE: calk before or after full body paint?

My motorhome has full body paint with clear caulking over the paint. A friend had his motorhome painted at Precision Painting and they did the same thing. They scrapped out the old caulking, painted the motorhome and then applied clear caulking.

RE: C7 Water Separator problems...HELP

When you drain the water separator you only drain about two tablespoons to see if there is any water. I'm sure some one with a CAT engine can help you prime it and get it started.

RE: boyds camp ground key west

We stayed at Boyds and will never go back. We reserved a full hookup site and got water and electric with a pump out twice a week. They said that is full hookup to them. We had a 38' motorhome and our site was 34' long so the front stuck out 4' in the road and they placed red cones around the front so no one would hit us. There was an electric pole 4" from one side and a guide wire 4" from the other side. It took all my driving skills to get the motorhome into and out of that site.
After I got the motorhome parked some men walked up and shook my hand. Seems there was a group of men betting whether or not I could park in that tight site and the men who won the bet wanted to congratulate me on my driving skills.
And as others have said it is VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

RE: Residential stacked washer / dryer?

I have had both Sears and Whirlpool stackable units in two motorhomes and never had a problem. Works great. In 10 1/2 years I have hauled them all over the USA, Canada and Mexico for over 100,000 miles and nothing has broke yet.

RE: Upgrading 8 House Batteries to Lifeline AGM's

With those eight batteries you will have 880-amps. Set your charger to AGM Batteries and the battery bank to the nearest you can get to 880-amps. I bought Lifeline AGM's in 2001 and have used them in two motorhomes and they are still going strong. Once a year I hose off the dust and check the battery connections; otherwise, I forget about them.

RE: Gluing Hinges

My brother-in-law has a 2003 Winnebago Journey and both his generator and engine covers broke loose. Winnebago reglued them and they broke again while traveling across Montana. We didn't have any glue or epoxy, but I had a roll of 3M industrial double-face tape and we remounted the hinges with that tape. Three years later both covers are still holding strong.

RE: What kind of ladder do you guys carry

I carried a Camping World ladder for a few years - the type that folds into a four inch square. One day the wind blew it over and it busted into several parts. So I bought a Little Giant at a flea market and it is the best ladder I have every owned. I just fold it up and slide it in the basement.
My brother-in-law bought a Little Giant "knock-off" at Home Depot and it a very good ladder too.

RE: Country Coach status??

A couple of weeks ago I read Country Coach had not been able to sell one motorhome a week as they had planned. It is hard to pay 120 employees from the sale of one motorhome a week. Last I read CC had been shut down since Sept 11.
