RE: Champion 75531i 3100w Inverter Generator

I started one of the other threads about the Champion generator/inverter. We have had a chance to use it and so far i'm really impressed with it. It really is a quiet unit and you can not hear it inside with the AC running. It kicks off my 15000 btu AC with out hesitation. If the outside temps allow and we don't need the AC I turn on the "idle switch" which allows the unit to idle down with little load and that's nice. I paid $989.00 for the unit from an ebay retailer and they offered free shipping, best money I ever spent!!

RE: Champion 3100 inverter / generator

Well I got a chance to use it today and all I can say is, WOW!! It is truly impressive. I started it up and the first thing I noticed is how quiet it is. You can talk normal around it and with the "idle down" switch turned on it's even quieter still. It will run almost everything in my camper without kicking the idle up, microwave and AC I would not try with the switch on. With the switch off and running full speed it kicks off the AC without delay! and with the unit running right outside by the slideout you can not hear it running with the AC on and the fan blowing. I feel like I spent my money wisely as this will be a welcome addition to our camping family!!

RE: Coachman Chaparral

We love ours! Had a few problems... TV died, water heater had crack that only leaked "sometimes" finally found it! Only complaint from Coachman was...poorly sealed shower door and found (the hard way) 2 screws up through the floor.

RE: Handheld Remote control for awning, rear jacks.slides,etc.?

When we purchased our Coachman it did not have the remote system but the Cougar we looked at did. I purchased a kit and installed it myself and it controls the slideout and the awning. We love having it but the only drawback is you can't hang lights from your awning and put it away with the remote laying in bed if it starts raining. Currently looking for lights that can just be rolled up in the awning.

Champion 3100 inverter / generator

Well I got tired of figuring out the best way to convince the wife we have to buy two Honda's to run our 15000 BTU AC unit, so I purchased a new Champion 3100 inverter. Cost the same as one Honda and it will start and run a 15000 btu AC. Super quiet and I like the fact that it idles with no load on it. It's light (83 lbs.) and fits in our storage compartment. There, problem solved!!

RE: Generator running AC, is single Honda too small ??

Well the Champion 4000 I have will run the AC no problem but it's tough to transport. Currently i'm looking for an enclosure to put it in.

Generator running AC, is single Honda too small ??

Will a Honda 2000 series generator run a 15000btu AC unit by itself? I was looking at the specs and the Honda EU2000i makes 16.7 amps and after testing my AC startup amp draw it is just a little over 10amps. I have seen a lot of people connecting 2 units together but the cost is out of reach. I have a Champion 4000 but I have no way to transport it because of its size and no enclosure. I'm considering the Honda so it will fit in the truck tool box.

B&W Patriot 5th wheel hitch questions

I'm looking into replacing my hitch this year and i'm considering the B&W Patriot series. I currently have the Reese 15K Pro and it has been trouble free but the "sliding bar" that locks it seems loose and rattily. My questions are... is the B&W a good stout hitch and it uses a 2 jaw clamp around the king pin, is that better? Will the B&W drop right in on my Reese rails, it looks like it will? Kinda looking for input from some other B&W owners or possibly some recommendations.

New member but no info! What gives?

I signed up about 5 weeks ago with the promotion of 15 months. I have recieved nothing, no cards, no paperwork! I sure hope this is not a trend in the service i'll get! Should I have to call to make sure or are they just really, really slow??

RE: AC selector switch Where to buy?

I only have one air conditioner on my 30AMP trailer and it is under its own 120VAC circuit breaker. I would assume the zecond air conditioner would be installed the same with its own 120VAC circuit breaker. Seems to me it would be just as easy to flip the circuit breaker for the Air Conditioner you want to totally disable - certainly would be alot cheaper than installing a transfer switch.
Of course having a transfer switch with a 30AMP trailer system would insure that only ONE air conditioner would be used at a time.
Roy Ken
Check my original post again, i'm not installing a second AC unit. I'm want the switch for a diffrent purpose.

RE: AC selector switch Where to buy?

A manual transfer switch will work great for your application. I installed one here.
Or maybe another option here.
Now your on the right track! Thats exactly what i'm looking for.

AC selector switch Where to buy?

I'm looking for an AC selector switch. My older 1993 Fleetwood class A had one of these switches in the front cabinet to select either the front or rear AC unit. I'm looking for one of these switches for a diffrent purpose. I'm wanting to install 2 shorepower hookups on my 5th wheel camper and be able to select either one while making sure the one not in use is "dead"! The shorepower is a Marinco style that the cable plugs into but its at the left/front of the camper and I want to install another Marinco plug-in at the left/rear and be able to select either one that closest to the power pole. I do not want anyone to be able to open the lid and stick thier fingers in there and get nailed so it needs to be "dead" while the other one is in use. Looking for a source for that switch or open to other ideas...

RE: Self adjusting brakes

ETrailer.com probably has the answer, and parts if you want them.
If I where to go to all the trouble to remove the tires, I would be changing to disk brakes. They provide much stronger braking effort, even while backing up.
Yes folks, the way magnetic brakes work, they will not push the shoe towards the drum while in reverse.
Fred.
WOW someone forgot to tell Heartland the brake were not to work while backing up. Now boat trailers don't have brakes while backing up. But every electric brake trailer I own has brakes both ways. Mine will lock the brakes backing up. Camper, gooseneck and the car hauler trailer all do it.
Pete
Exactly! My brakes work in reverse and sometimes have to be shut off to back up.

RE: Power converters / battery charger

What I have now is a WFCO brand. The cooling fan cycles on and off about every second like its trying to come on but it never does. I never have problems with lights dimming or anything like that but i'm affraid the unit will overheat. It is under warranty but that will just get me the same thing. I considering just spending the money and getting a good one!

Power converters / battery charger

I discovered last fall while camping that the power converter is acting weird with the cooling fan rapid cycling. I spoke with the service tech about it and he said "prolly going out, not suprizing" What?? Anyway if its acting up I don't really want that brand in there anyway, what would be a "great" replacement? I have been looking at Progressive Dyamics.

RE: Lake Cumberland Recommendations

Hello all!
My family and a few camping family friends are looking for campgrounds on Lake Cumberland for this summer. We'd prefer full hookup if possible, a campground on the lake and a site that could accommodate a 37' fifth wheel. We'll likely stay a week to 10 days and spend a lot of time on the water.
Would anyone have any recommendations, experiences, campsite recommendations and\or pictures you could share?
We'd also like to know how nice the people were in the campground. We've felt like intruders at some of the private campgrounds we've visited.
Thanks, Mike
Sunset marina at Dale Hollow lake is a way better choice for camping on the water! We camp there and they have it all and some sites are right "on" the water. Beach/restraunt/marina/launch ramp. However your not on Cumberland...

Couple of rigs headed to Mt Rushmore this summer and looking for ideas on campgrounds. Need things for kids to do. Heard one had a waterpark but can't locate it? Ideas or thoughts? And we are going nowhere near that place during bike week!!
