RE: Roof Coating - Finally applied bedliner to my roof & pics

I'd like to know how much weight the rhino-liner stuff added to the roof?

RE: Dropped the fiver

In the Reese hitch, I don't see how the jaws can close properly if high hitched or low hitched.

RE: Dropped the fiver

I wonder if people realize that's what the locking plate is for...to lock the hitch in the closed position?

RE: Dropped the fiver

I never even noticed the cotter pin. Well, like RCMAN46, we use a lock. Never even noticed if the handle has scuff marks on it and I have turned almost 90* turns. Guess I'll have to go look tomorrow.

RE: ASPCA & Hurricane Sandy

We were traveling west (away from Sandy!) on the PA Turnpike and we passed a huge ASPCA tractor trailer on it's way east. I presume it might have been going to NJ and/or NY to help with pets lost in the storm.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Fly4Fun, that's why it's called a safety catch! We even put a lock on ours when hitching up. Like you, that doesn't get unlocked or flipped up until we're on site, chocks between wheels, and trailer is level. THEN we unlock and flip, Bob backs up to release the pressure on the pin, and I pull the handle. Easy peasy. Teamwork.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Cummins, I don't see any real difference between Reese and B&W except where the pivot point is. The Reese jaws wrap around the kingpin just as well.

LOL!! Oh, I'm sorry SO but that surely sounds like something I would do.

RE: Dropped the fiver

Probably the same reason they have them for other hitches. A secondary "insurance". Cheaper than a bed saver, though!

RE: Where do fivers put their generators?

Thanks everyone for all the replies!
Biscuit, that is one very nice setup!! Unfortunately, the gen would have to stay with the trailer because of the pets so that setup is out of the question for us. :(
So, I'm figuring they will travel, chained, in the truck and then when used, will be chained to something as secure as possible on the fiver but preferably in the back.

Where do fivers put their generators?

This question is directed to those without a built-in generator.
Where do you put your generator when using it? We would carry ours in our truck bed but wonder where we'd put it when in camp and using it.

RE: Dropped the fiver

We've heard people on the opposite end of a campground when they hitch up without opening the jaws first!! Wham, bang!! We did this a couple of times then decided the hitch did NOT need all that stress so we now open the Reese jaws, back quietly (not counting typical Dodge diesel roar!) onto the pin, close the handle, visually check to see if the jaws are together (painted the leading edge of each jaw white) then continue raising the legs. And fiver is NOT hitched until all slides are in.
As was previously said, what works for you, keep on doing it.

RE: Dropped the fiver

How can you do a pull test with the landing legs down? I have to raise the legs to hitch up. That's the only way I can get the kingpin plate to sit on the Reese hitch correctly.

RE: Are stabilizer bars necessary?

So, do we get one for just one side? If so, which side?

RE: Are stabilizer bars necessary?

When we had our Starcraft popup (big, and many years ago), we didn't know anything about anti-sway, weight distribution or whatever. We just made sure it towed level and off we went. Figured it wasn't even as heavy as a horse trailer. Had no problems then.
