RE: Air bags with 5th wheel hitch

Install on my Dodge was a 5 on a scale of 10. Took me about 5 hours, and I am sure no mechanic.

RE: Air bags with 5th wheel hitch

I have PacBrake airbags, and Pullrite Super Glide. No problems. I love the ride I get out of the airbags even unloaded. One thing I would recommend iw the in cab controls for the airbags for changing conditions. Make sure if you go this route it is the dual controls for keeping the bags separate.

RE: Gooseneck hitch

Thanks for every ones input.
I will go with a standard gooseneck
And thanks
If your 5er is under warranty and you use a gooseneck... It is usually automatically voided...

RE: Post your tow vehicle pics here

Plus a diesel will out last a gas engine under heavy haul loads by 100,000s of miles. :)
Maybe but unlikely with all the diesel problems I read about. But the rest of the truck will wear just like a gasser. :) I don't want to debate this any longer on this pic thread though.
You don't want to debate it... Just want the last word.....How sad!

RE: Post your tow vehicle pics here

OMG - 4 mpg? And I thought 7 was bad with our 6.8L Gasser. Now getting 12 - 15 depending on terrain with our diesel.
Yeh, but fuel cost should be the same as diesel cost is 1/3 more here. Then add in the $5K to $7K additional option cost and that gasser fuel expense starts to look really good.
Naw, even with the increase in diesel fuel per gallon, with the increase in MPG, we save .25 a gallon overall.

RE: need capture plate

I have a 1998 fifth wheel 32 ft and I bought a pullrite hitch and have it in my truck so now I need to get a capture plate for the fifth wheel but not sure witch one to get. I'm leaning towords the universal capture plate so I don't have to drill holes in the bottom of the hitch. It looks like it has adjust ments on the side of the capture plate that holds on to the bottom of the camper hitch. I would like to be able use my other hitch in case I need to move other fifthwheel thats not set up with a pullrite hitch since I allso have a slider hitch assy
What is your current pin box?

RE: Moving to TX

When you get a Tx drivers license that if your TV & 5er has a combined GVWR over 26000 lbs you need a "class a " endorsement.
Welcome to Texas
Read it closely... If you tow a trailer over 10,000 GVWR you still have to have a Class A licence!
Class A Driver License
A Class A driver license permits a person to drive:
1. Any vehicle or combination of vehicles described under a Class B or Class C driver license; and
2. A vehicle or combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001
lbs. or more, provided the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle(s) towed is in excess
of 10,000 lbs.
Class B Driver License
A Class B driver license permits a person to drive:
1. Any vehicle included in Class C;
2. A single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more and any such
vehicle towing either a vehicle with a GVWR that does not exceed 10,000 lbs. or a farm trailer with
a GVWR that does not exceed 20,000 lbs.
Class C Driver License
A Class C driver license permits a person to drive:
1. A single vehicle or combination of vehicles that are not included in Class A or Class B; and
2. A single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 26,001 lbs. towing a trailer
not to exceed 10,000 lbs. GVWR or a farm trailer with a GVWR that does not exceed 20,000 lbs.

RE: Exhaust / Engine brakes and RAM problems

There sure is good information in the previous posts. Thanks
We installed a PacBrake on our 2004.5 Dodge Ram 4 years ago and it has been working GREAT. We spend a lot of time in the Rocky Mountains and the exhaust brake gives me peace of mind knowing that we will not be overheating the braking system before we reach level ground. It was easy to install other than fitting the exhaust elbow; that was a two person job. The system comes with an electric air compressor and storage tank. When we are on the road it is great having 130 psi air onboard. We even installed a quick disconnect under the trucks grill for connecting a 50’ air house. We now use air to fill tires, blow the new air-horns, supply air to the air bag suspension, blow-out the air cleaner and start wet charcoal.

RE: ATTENTION 2012 Dodge Ram Mega Cab & Short Bed owners.....

It all depends on the shape of the front of the fiver and where the king pin is located in reference to the leading edge of the fiver to many variables.... I had an Alfa that the pin was located 8'' behind the leading edge and it was touchy even with the SuperGlide. Now have a Grand Junction where the pin is 5'' in front of the leading edge and could(but won't)put at ninety degrees.

RE: NITROGEN in tires

Nitrogen also dries out rubber in the long run! We use it to displace pipelines and it always leaks out after awhile, even if we had just hydro tested the line. (pressure test using water) It will dry out the seals and packings in valves and leak thru....

It is 90 inside the 5er. What should the refrigerator temperature be? Freezer is -1. Thanks
The inside refrigerator temperature should be between 32 and 40 degrees, regardless of outside ambient temperatures.

RE: Gooseneck or 5th wheel platform?

I'm close to buying an '03 Dmax 3500 dually to replace my '96 2500 w/the 6.5 to pull my 29' Keystone Sprinter. The guy who is buying my '96 truck does not want the 5th wheel platform so I'll take it out. The '03 dually has a gooseneck.
Should I put the 5th wheel platform in the '03 or get a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter?
What are the pros and cons of each?
Thank you
Jim
Goose neck adapters can put stresses on the Pin box and frame causing welds to break and warping the front of the trailer.

RE: STill shopping....let's talk hitches

When we decided to switch from a truck camper to a trailer, I decided early on that 5W was the way to go rather than bumper pull. It just seems like it makes more sense to have the tongue weight over the rear axle rather than hanging off the end of the TV. Plus I tow plenty of tractors on my flatbed bumper pull trailer to know that more weight back there isn't what I want.
So now the question is: 5th wheel platform hitch or gooseneck conversion with a hide-a-ball in the bed? I was initially sold on the gooseneck idea because I want my truck bed when I'm not traveling. But lately I've heard that if the trailer is too big a gooseneck adapter can cause some unpleasant movement as it flexes going down the road.
Which do you prefer and why? I'd like to hear from people who have tried both systems. Also what is your preference on 5th wheel hitch systems assuming you will want to remove the hitch between trips?
Short bed or Long bed?
