RE: old school observation.... tire whacker

I am a tire thumper on the DRW. Two weeks ago I thumped them befor departing And thumped one set again when I heard a very slight difference that I might have just put down to just the angle of the contact with the hammer. However I broke out the gauge and the inner was down to 20 psi. Durn valve extender leak again. Point is the thump difference was slight so thumping may not be the best way to spot trouble but it helps.

RE: DRW regrets?

My biggest gripe about a DRW is filling and checking tires.

RE: 20% Bio Fuel at Flying J/Pilot

Like down home said, use a biocide. I forgot to last winter and payed the price in clogged fuel filters. Except for the very basic diesel engines a fuel pressure gauge is a very important item, bio diesel or not. Around 8,000 gallons of B100 run thru my Dodge and others, no problems other than the ones I caused.

Jnharley, that is a lot of stuff to replace, what truck do you have? With the exception of injectors, I have a hard time understanding why.

RE: 20% Bio Fuel at Flying J/Pilot

I am shocked to learn that switching around between B20,B5,and Bzero will cause the most problems. What problems, details please.

RE: 20% Bio Fuel at Flying J/Pilot

I am curious, what would Dodge do to convert a Cummins from B5 max to B20 max. This whole B5/B20 thing just seems like legal CYA.

RE: Trailer Mover?

Give us updates, got to wonder if it will have enough torque. I have a ParkIt 360 in Sac if you want to see it for any ideas.

Ok turtle, you opened it so you need to expound on it. It being there is a "not even close" fuel system difference between a medium duty truck and a OTR truck. A teaching moment awaits.

RE: How often do you check your Truck's tire pressure?

While I use a IR often I am not sure I want to depend on it too much. I have been doing a lot of 300 mile trips lately pulling a cargo trailer and cargo in the bed instead of a TC. Last week I shot the tires as usual at my destination and noted a slightly higher temp on one of the inside wheels. Upon checking with a gauge imagine my surprise it only had 20 psi. Another leaky valve stem extender. IR is great for trailer bearings and tires but a little sketchy for a DRW without a big load. Same with thumping, while that tire did thump different it was not enough to set off a mental alarm. Just saying.

RE: Before a trip should I turn off the water of my house?

I shut down gas and water, quake country.

10-4 on the pencil gauge Mark. I too have a assortment in the door pocket but that is the one I use. I have not seen the locking chucks before, The lever type have never worked well for me. Got a source addy?

RE: How often do you check your Truck's tire pressure?

Often on the duals as I have extenders and they can leak. I also thump the duals pretty often for the same reason.

RE: Lance 1181, First Impressions Wrong

There was a time when Jim Allen was running the shop you went to you would have come away feeling a lot better.

RE: Tuna Burgers...

My dogs love Cosco salmon burgers. Of course they love a tasty gopher also.

RE: Recycling Plastic Bags

Don't think so, CA is about to ban most kinds. Drive down CA highway and they are every where on the side of the road. Give them to your dog owner friends for poop.

Pretty strange koda, I have run B100 with FleetGuard filters 100,000 miles with no problems other than ones I caused.

Enlighten me Wintersun, how does BD damage fuel filters? As far as my comment on the rubber, that was in response to a previous post.

RE: 20% Bio Fuel at Flying J/Pilot

As far as I know no one has built a fuel system since the nineties with seals and hoses that would be damaged by BD.

RE: TC Sinking

I have some 18x18x1 tooling plates left over from a job. When I get around to it I will put them down but for now some pressure treated boards will do the job. Tried a paver and it cracked right away.

TC Sinking

This just for a giggle, nothing serious and easily fixed. I unloaded my TC onto a spot that a 10x10 alum shed had been sitting on, just a dirt gravel pad. All fine and good then a strange thing happened, water fell out of the sky. In NorCal rain has been a rare thing for the last three years but yea it happened. The jack pads started sinking into the ground overnight, about five inches. So today I am raising it and supporting with some cribbing while I put firm footing down, either concret pavers or some pressure treated lumber I have around. I also have old plastic cutting boards that would be ideal but this is quake country and the are pretty slick. Rain, I love it and it allowed the huge wildfire to the east of us to be controlled. It burned 100,000 acres. We need much more rain.
