RE: Algae in fuel

I may have as much or more experience with alge in fuel. Get the biocide from a store that deals with marine products, West Marine is one. Fishing boats deal with alge often enough. The biocide added at the refinery is not good enough sometimes.

RE: How do you avoid Bio Diesel (over B5) while on the road?

Calling BS on BD causing OP's repair bill. The last 100,000 miles on my Ram have been on B100. I know people that run B100 on 6.0 Rords with no problem.

RE: Prelube pump

I have seen pressure systems that pre lube every time you start the engine but the might not be good for long time storage. Just as above, disable ignition.

RE: What unusual location have you parked overnight at?

The Slabs, fire lookout, bottom of a gravel pit, truck parking lot with armed guards in El Paso. Next to a fenced pioneer grave in the desert, Jaw Bone Canyon in the week after Xmas with hundreds of dirt bikers.

RE: Spring is here

It will be 70f today here in NorCal, our hopes are that it gets colder again because we really need more rain/snow to fill the water supply lakes. However since we are camping let the sun shine two more days.

RE: 06 Dodge Diesel Engine Shutdown Adventure-UPDATE

Grit dog, I am sure my tank snot was my fault both times. Pumped the wrong tank most likely. My truck ran the first 100k on B100. I made thousands of gallons and used by a variety of motors with no problems. My snot resulted from my pumping some old stuff that should have been put on a bonfire instead. Get a little water and old BD together and snot grows.

RE: 06 Dodge Diesel Engine Shutdown Adventure-UPDATE

I don't know Wayne, but my sense is it would not hurt. I haven't had a problem in my Honda and I don't run it all that often. I do use Sea Foam in all my gas motors. Now that I have said no snot problem I am going camping, leaving this evening and hope I haven't jinxed myself. The snot problem in my Dodge was severe, three filters in less than 100 miles. Never dropped the tank just sucked the fuel out and thru a filter then back in. That and liberal dose of algecide. I suspect I must have pumped in some old biodiesel by mistake. These days I run a prefilter also.

RE: 06 Dodge Diesel Engine Shutdown Adventure-UPDATE

So is algecide a emulsifier? Diesel engines around the world use algecide especially in marine applications but I don't know common rail engines. All I can tell you that in the two times my tank developed snot I got rid of it.

RE: 06 Dodge Diesel Engine Shutdown Adventure-UPDATE

Not saying alge in the tank is your problem but having been thu this I would advise algecide into your tank each time you fill up for awhile. Have you used biodiesel recently?

RE: under mattress insulation

Avoid any foam board with ink printing on it as the ink will bleed with a bit of moisture.

RE: Ease of removing Superhitch and extensions?

Ah, you remove the truss as a unit, I can't do that.

RE: Ease of removing Superhitch and extensions?

I have a 48 inch extension and you young guys are a lot faster than me in installing and removing. I get even slower when the need to pull a trailer arises while the camper is loaded and I have to do it from a creeper. :) I don't know about the young guy part. I'll be the big seven O this year. Agree installing or removing the Supertruss with the camper on is a real bear and is a lot harder than if the camper is not on. Generally a little planning can avoid needing to remove/install with the camper on. Got a ways to go to catch me however planing is good but you know the saying about best laid plans. Off in five minutes, you are a better man than I Gunga Din.

RE: Winter boondock... Cold cab over. Need ideas.

I use inch thick rigid foam cut to fit the window frames. Storage is a problem if it gets warmer but it seals the windows near air tight and makes nice warm dark cave to sleep in.

"Why not prohibit vehicle combinations that cannot articulate to stay mostly on their own side of this road from using it?" Going to be really hard to put that on a sign.

RE: Drones illegal

I fly model aircraft, the government flies drones. What few of the public knows is that the recent FAA rules apply to all model aircraft, not just so called "drones", even motor less gliders. As for all you chest beating about your personal airspace, forget it. All shooting will get you is a lawsuit and arrest.

RE: Geocel proflex rv not available in California

I'll get in on that tank of gas, I love CA, warts and all. I have noticed over the years people in Orange County seem to carp a lot, always put it down to over crowding, too many in a cage.
