RE: Truck First Aid

A shotgun, I may get really mad at my truck when it needs First Aid but so far not mad enough to shoot it. Lol Besides, I think I could kill it with just a book o matches, much less space needed to carry.

RE: Truck First Aid

Adding a LED head lamp to the list. Before I got smart and got a FASS I had to change two lift pumps in dark parking lots. The lamp made it soo much easier to do.

RE: Rancho reminder. Performance report.

My only problem with my Ranchos is adjusting the front ones. I have to jack up the front end in order to extend the springs enough to get enough space to turn the knob.

RE: Truck First Aid

Lol, does a auto club "save my butt" card qualify as first aid?

Truck First Aid

Buzzcut has a excellent thread started for living things and I couldn't find a list in the stickies so I thought a vehicle first aid kit list would be a good idea. No one is saying you need all the stuff the list details so pick and choose. I will edit now and then to gather all suggestions in one place. LED road flares or old school type. Duct tape and bailing wire. Diesel fuel filter. Bottle jack Lug wrench Air compressor Chains Flashlight Pliers Goop Brake cleaner Hand towels Overalls Good Sam ERS card Eterna Bond tape Red thread lock Serpentine belt Cash LED head lamp

RE: Best road atlas

When we travel the right seet sets up with a Gps, Rand McNally, and Pocket Maps on a IPad. She really likes the big Rand and I like Pocket Maps when not driving.

RE: Feet or head first????

If we slept with heads toward the back door there is danger of being pushed over the edge head first by pushy, cold dogs in the winter.

RE: Dodge Spare Part

Just saying, didn't like the fuel leaking out in a steady stream on the motor and I had 150 miles to go. For 17 bucks from Cummins and 15 minutes of my time I avoided a hazardous situation and saved the cost of the fuel.

Dodge Spare Part

Found another spare it is a good idea to carry. Water In Fuel Drane Valve. Either a complete valve or a repair kit. Mine is a '01 CTD and the o ring failed at 100K. Not just a little drip, a steady stream. Not expensive and you will need a number 15 Torx.

RE: Valve stem extenders and wheel balance

Pretty much the way I think big toe. I did make the mistake of putting on too short metal stems. Makes getting a big head gauge in harder with a big head gauge. Half inch or so longer when I get new tires. Be awhile for that as these Ribs last a long time.

RE: Full Monty at the Cat scale

That makes your load around 5,000. About the same as mine except I have extra wheels. I have broken air bag bolts, sheared off the upper air bag bracket, and broken into two pieces the right side frame. My advice is do all you can to avoid dirt roads with ruts that cause the frame to twist.

RE: Heater Ignitor Works On 110V But Not Battery

A piece of red tape on the positive battery wire is not a bad idea. Also a piece of red tape next to the positive post helps at times because of the difficulty of seeing black on black battery marks in low light.

RE: Valve stem extenders and wheel balance

I have been running the hose extenders on my 01 since new and can't say I have noticed balance issues. Over the years I have had air leak problems but in retrospect I think I may have caused some of those. A word of caution, do not buy the extenders that allow the hose to remain under pressure in use, good chance for a slow leak. Twice for me till I figured it, yea I'm slow. Taking off tires to get to a inner stem in desert sand is no fun. Get extra o rings for the extensions and change them any time you have the wheels off and you should avoid leaks. No one I know has ever had a hose come off and whip around. The metal stems are appealing but I wonder if you have to switch them around among the wheels if you rotate tires.

RE: Sta-bil for diesel fuel?

Tickl2, I don't have any idea why that happened but there are lots of things that could have caused it. The always chief suspect is moisture. I imagine it was just a one off thing that got you.. This discussion has reminded me to dose the TDI fuel as it sits unused a lot at a house we are selling and is three hours away.

RE: How to measure DC current

Question about the meter that rjfishing put the link for. It seems to say you would need to power it from a separate battery.

RE: Sta-bil for diesel fuel?

That is good stuff arto. I used to have up to 500 gallons of used cooking oil in storage and that stuff will develope mung real quick because of water in it. I always doubled the dose for that use.

RE: How to measure DC current

When you install a shunt in the negative battery lead, do you cut the big wire or run a smaller wore in parallel?

RE: Sta-bil for diesel fuel?

I think a biocide is added to diesel at either the refinery or terminal.
