RE: How do I install horizontal propane tanks in my Lance 1161?

Sleepy, I got enthused when you said Amergas recerts tanks for $10. Turns out in the Golden State the going rate is $25. Not a surprise to me .

RE: How do I install horizontal propane tanks in my Lance 1161?

So I have a idea I am thinking of trying. Have some alum I beam stock, not big but strong and light . Take two of them and connect with chain so they cant pull apart. Put some angle on one end so they hook onto the tank compartment and slide the tank up instead of lifting. Store lashed to ladder. Just a idea at present, even have have Teflon sheet stock I could add.

RE: Another roof question - best thing to strap items down with?

For things on the roof I have always used a rafting cargo net and pad to protect the roof. Never carried bikes up there.

RE: How do I install horizontal propane tanks in my Lance 1161?

NRALIFR...early on I posted a solution for H tanks filling...right angle adaptor from welding supply house. Same TC as NRA and same lifting problems. The right angle device won't work for our situation. I used to under fill for a lighter tank but now even that will not work. Will have to depend on help.

RE: Confused about bearings

My two cents is I don't like Bearing Buddys on boats or cargo trailers. I have no experience wit TT bearings but have lots with boats and cargo trailers. When I am done with the job my wheels rock a bit as I like them that way but I think I repack more often than others. Never had a bearing freeze but did on a dealer serviced auto.

RE: idiot people

In Canada we have daytime running lights( mandatory on all vehicles). They still find ways to be idiots! Daylight running lights are great. When I was a kid in the Midwest a kind of fad developed where people would put a single lamp in the middle of the grill. I remember how well you could see a vehicle. Then the powers that be decided that was against the law so people had to take them off. By then I was a senior in high school and my girlfriend and her mother were killed in a head on in rain. I have always thought it would not have happened if the lights were still legal.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

TC is still resting on its jacks BUT I am off crutches most of the time and managed to depress the truck clutch without fainting. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. LOL

RE: Hitch Lock Hazared!!

If my hitch is going to be on the truck for a while, I use a grade 8 bolt with a lock nut. And just because I'm paranoid, I drilled the bolt and put a Cotter key in it. That is what I use and take it one step more. I drill thru the nut and not all the way thru the bolt. Then enlarge the hole in the nut. The bolt gets tapped for a set screw that uses a 1/8 Allen wrench. Unless a thief has a Allen wrench the stinger is staying put.

RE: Fridge won't stay burning in hot sun

It's extremely difficult to troubleshoot your problem over the internet when we don't know what year, make, model of trailer with or without slides, etc. His question seems pretty straight forward enough so an extensive DNA report might no be needed. A small fan should fix it or a shade for the grill.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Alas, not much. I haven't been able to get around let alone drive a six speed for 7 weeks. If things don't improve it may be the end of TC travel for us. TC has not been neglected while sitting as I check for condensation often and keep the battery up. Can't get on the roof to clean twigs and such off from the recent wind and rain so got to talk my kid into doing it. NorCal recieved two good storms so there is hope but water will still be precious this summer if no more storms

RE: How often should I start a diesel engine?

I would put a biocide in the diesel tank considering where you are. Put it in before your next trip so it will mix well with the fuel.

RE: Timing tank limits

Dump every chance you get is my best advise.

RE: In-Bed Connection

Make sure the install is up near the bed rail. Down low prevents loading things that sit on the bed, batteries in my case. Also up high makes it easier to plug in.

RE: Tongue of 1972 Shasta very difficult to get off ball.

Small point, it called a coupler instead of tongue. Now that I have proved myself to be a dweeb let me offer more positive input. I have two of those couplers and they are a bear to release if there is any pressure against the clasp. While I have never needed to, isn't there a nut up under there that adjusts clasp grip? I am sure clasp in the wrong term but works for me.

RE: Noisy kids, drunks, rude people, dog dung

Not trying to troll this but it seems like most of the response is from east of the Rockies, just a lot more crowded camping back there?

RE: Towing questions

With a 40 inch extension you might consider side tension chains like the Super Hitch uses. I used S hooks one time instead of locking connectors and they tried to straighten out due to side force when turning.

RE: The fickle finger of fate was messing with me again

A good mantra to chant while hauling heavy is EXPECT STUPIDITY. At least you had a fast trip over The pass, took an hour and a half from 580/680 to Tracy on Xmas Eve. That has me on crutches from the truck clutch and arthritic knee.
