RE: Did I order too much gear?

I would bet even with the 4.10, combined with the new auto trans and all it's overdrive gears, you will be right around 1600 rpm @ 70mph. I don't think you want the rpm any less than that. Plus, with the 4.10 it will be easier on the truck/trans when you start that much wieght from a stop. Best choice IMO... I am jealous by the way.... Sam

RE: Chrysler says 2013 Ram 3500 can tow 30,000 pounds

With the 2500 having increased the payload but not the RAWR or FAWR looks like they just put 3500 springs on the 2500 as I don't think it got the new frame. With the new cooling and other engine features I'm guessing thats why the increase in tow rating. I think if you check closer, you'll see that the 2500 did get GAWR increases. They are now the same as my 2007 3500 SRW in the rear (6200#). As well, it appears as though you can only get the 3.42 axle with the diesel in a 2500 :h Upon further review it does look like the 2500 recieved a new frame also. Ya, wierd on the 3.42. Quite a change from the 3 axles for 2012. I'm betting that is a misprint..... Sam I was thinking that too, but then Ford only offers 3.31 and 3.55 in their srw trucks.... That seems strange to me. With these six speed autos and all their lockups and overdrives, at freeway speed with a 3.42, engine rpm will be very low.....too low. Sam

RE: Towing 5th wheel and Exhaust brakes?

I think if you really want to stop, spend the money on disc brakes for the trailer and leave the engine alone. The lag time between when you see that you HAVE to stop and the time between the vanes start you slowing is too great. My disc's will lock up all four trailer wheels NOW. No warrenty to void either. You are talking about two very different issues. Use of a exhaust brake, grade braking, etc has nothing to do with an emergency stop other than giving the driver nice cool service brakes when they are needed. And if you want to talk about lag time, the disc brakes/pumps for trailers have more of that than electric drum brakes. Chris X2 EB are to be used to retard the tendency for the truck to gain speed going down hill. Use of the EB to slow the truck and trailer without use of the service brakes leaves the service brakes nice and cool ready for what comes up! I think I am getting a Pakbrake for Christmas. Great idea! I put my BD brake on before I even had license plates on the truck....Absolutely the best mod you can do, I use mine every day. In addition to keeping things cool and ready, your brakes will last forever. After twelve years and a hundred thousand miles, I am still on the original brake pads and still have half the pad left. Also, the Pacbrake uses an additional compressor you have to mount, for powering it while the BD uses vacuum for the existing vacuum pump to operate it, a little simpler. Sam

RE: 2 million

Custom Engine Mounts Since its first Cummins conversion in 1997, Avalanche Engineering has developed a full line of Cummins conversion engine crossmembers that make installing any Cummins engine a bolt-in procedure. All kits are CNC-cut from mild steel plate and jigwelded for a precise fit. The mounts are fully adjustable-both up and down and fore and aft-allowing for a custom fit. LINK Actually Scott is not to far off base here. I've never seen a Fummins installed without some kind of modification regarding the engine mounts. That " antiquated" :B engine is a Bit*h to drop in although it has been done thousands of times. Not one EPA complaint either that I've read about. It is the most "serviceable" engine compartment that I've ever seen with the current diesels engines. http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss253/rick83864/066.jpg height=480 width=640 http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss253/rick83864/065.jpg width=640 Gotta love those galvanized pipe fittings in the radiator hose.... :S

RE: 2 million

And after 2 million tries they are finally building an engine that should compete with the competition. :) I think the Duramax should hit the 2 million mark by the end of 2013. Now that's funny......trying to compete with the 6.oh-no,6.4 and the 6.7??? :E Keep drinking the blue kool aide..... Sam

RE: 2 million

I bought my first Cummins back in 1991, with those whopping hp and torque numbers. It was, and probably will be the most trouble free truck I will ever own. My friends who I camped and towed with thought I was nuts for buying it. Of course, that changed when we would stop for fuel and I was buying a half of tank of fuel while they were buying a full tank. Painfully simple, unreal mileage numbers, if it hadn't been a regular cab, I would still own it. Sam

RE: Buying used diesels...

Funny.. There is always a sense of outrage and wonder from people when things break after all the aftermarket parts are put on plus suprise when the dealer tells them to take a walk on the warranty. I'm not sure why it's a suprise, does it not state on stickers all over under the hood that if you alter the volumes of the engine that the waranty is void? I'm pretty sure my 5.9 had that plastered all over. I've recently been looking for a newer yet used diesel. I can tell you I don't give any truck a second look that has been modified and "tinkered" with. The value in my opinion is dropped to near worthless. All the money spent on intakes, programers and exhaust just screams one thing to me.. "I beat the pi$$ out of my truck and engine when I can". Am I wrong? Yes....You are painting with a very broad brush, so to speak, that everyone who mods a vehicle beats the cra* out of it. There are those who are just as you describe. There are also others, who enjoy the the benefits( mileage, performance, fun factor)) of resonable modifications, who actually take care of their stuff. Sam

RE: More 6.7 Ford HPFP fun

I wonder if, after installing this system to save your expensive pump, will Ford void your warranty because you have installed an after market accessory on your truck?:h:S SamIf they can state the aftermarket part caused a Ford supplied part to fail, then the answer is YES. If not, Magnuson-Moss applies. That is true.....but good luck with that, when the pushing and shoving starts between Ford and an average joe, Ford will have more, and better paid lawyers than Joe. Guess who will win....... Sam

RE: Help identify suspension stuff...

Those look like Rancho shocks which are adjustable. They come with a knob to adjust the dampning of the shock. Rancho has an optional kit to adjust the shocks from a dash control so you don't have to climb under and twist a knob for adjustment. That is what the black hose/line going to the shock is. Sam

RE: 2013 Rams using CP3 HPFP?

The secresy creates speculation, which fuels interest, which brings on the anticipation.....an excellant marketing plan, don't you think?:C Sam Yes, it is an excellent marketing plan, though it could back fire....I mean it's almost December, there are those, like myself, who are interested in seeing what the final specs and pricing on the 2013 3500HD Dually are going to be, (also you have those interested in the 2500HD and 3500HD SRW trucks), ie, GVWR, GCWR, what tranny they're going to offer in the 3500HD SRW etc....and again...pricing.. I will only wait so long, I know what the 2013 chevy has, and it's more than enough truck, If I get "the fever", I could end up in a Chevy D/A 3500HD Dually instead of the Ram 3500HD Dually, not saying I will, because I really like the looks of the Ram, inside and out, better than the Chevy, BUT if the right deal were to come along, ....the old saying, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", could come to fruition. As most know, I'm NOT brand loyal and I was a "Chevy guy" before I purchased the dodge I now have, and I LOVE it, zero issues, tows 5er like a champ, EB is AWESOME...quieter inside when driving than my 07.5 LTZ D/A dually, But RAM better start answering questions from their customers or they may lose some of them....Some may like the secrecy, but it's getting old real quick As of "this instant", I'm still looking at purchasing a 2013 3500HD Dually, but with pricing an unknown...they better let the Ram faithful know something before too much longer.... I am the same boat as you....but am GM truck? Not for me. If the cp3 issue and price doesn't work for me, I will keep my old trusty iron.......but.....I did read somewhere that the 2014 Ram might be a redesign year......:@ Sam
