RE: Revived Trailer Tire Thread (formerly on the 5th Wheel Forum

I heard one time that for every person that registers a complaint about something, there are about 30 more that have the same problem but don't register a complaint. Yet another urban legend.Entirely possible, but it is almost certain that more don't complain than do. Granted; however it's not an epedemic either way.

RE: $50 to have Second tire Inflated?

Our camping friends called Good Sam road side assistance to have a tire inflated. He has a dully. The service guy charged him $50 to pump up the second tire. What is with that? It does not sound like good customer service!!! ken And the problem is? Your "camping friend" needed air in his ties, obviously in a roadside emergency situation. Did he agree to the price? If not sit by the side of the road and enjoy your $50. People will whine about everything, either agree to pay the the price; don't agree and don't get the service; either way why complain aboiut it? Because after the fact you think it's too high so you want to question "customer service". Sounds like service to me.

RE: Campfire meals for kids ~ Ideas please :)

If you don't have any pie irons get some. Great to cook campfire meals for kids and adults alike. Link. I recommend the double aluminum as a minimum (#1200-T). The site also has recipe ideas for the irons...just about anything in them is good. My faves are grilled cheese and pizza. Pizza 1. Butter both sides of the iron. 2. Lay two triangles of crecent rolls in each side of the iron. The two triangles will make a rectangle. Pinch any perforations closed. 3. Put pepperoni, cheese sauce, etc on one side of the crecent rolls. 4. Close iron. 5 Hand Iron to kid, help kid hold and rotate over campfire till golden brown. About 5 mins. Check frequently by opening iron and peeking. 6. Enjoy.

RE: Need recommendation for tire pressure for TT tires

Anything less than max sidewall inflation is bad advice and should be disregarded.

RE: S T tires

:) As many of you have figured out I am a bit obsessive about information and with reported problems with trailer tires and about a 30% failure rate including a couple of folks on this forum who have had catastrophic failures. Bogus at best. Where did this 30% figure come from?

RE: Seminar @ Camping World

You have to be pretty niave to not think a seminar ANYWHERE is nothing more than a high pressure sales event, disquised as information. If you want to learn about something use the WWW, books, etc.

RE: Cant believe what I saw...overweight camper

According to trailer life towing guide Yukons/Tahos for that year are rated anywhere from 4200 to 7900 lbs. Lets assume you have as stated the 7900 rating. Your trailer has a GVWR of 7200 leaving you 500 lbs for You, your wife fuel cargo, etc. I think you are probably overloaded.

RE: Stealth camping on private property

A military base NOT public property! Absolutely is. It may be restricted access public property but it is public property. It certainly isn't private property. From businessdictionary.com: "Definition of public property: Items, facilities, or premises owned by a community or government, and not by any person or private entity." Your proffered definition does not fit the situation. You can try to skew the definition to fit your argument but it doesn't make it true. It is not private and it is not public either. The Public is not allowed full, access to military installations. I have been associated with the military for over 30 years, 27 years active duty and 8 years civil service, and you are very WRONG. Next time you want to camp just boogie over to your "public property". If you don't have the right credentials you will not be granted access. How public is that? Just saunter in anytime you want; without valid ID or sponsor you will not be granted access. Here is a more accurate definition(s)...link Miltary Base Note in this definition who owns it. Now you have learned that an active military installation is not public property. It is controlled access Federal Property .

RE: Want to switch tires from ST to P

TT usually means bumper pull, so would include tent trailers. A fifth wheel(5W, FW) is also a TT but most people actually state some form of FW. I have weighed my TT's tongue with an ordinary bathroom scale to be 220lbs. My tow vehicle is a van and the specs are 200/750lbs. The 750 is with a weight distributing hitch. I use air adjustable rear shocks to level the van when towing. The van's tow rating is 5000lbs. Even at a full 2700GVWR of the TT, I would only be using 54%. There is a picture of my rig in my profile where you can see the placement of the axle and the height before the 5in axle flip. The weight ticket from the scales actual readings were 2040 for the axle with R of 1060, leaving L 980, and the tongue 220 per the bathroom scale. The R, or curbside, tire is the one that failed. I'll go with 50psi in the new tires. HTH; John Bumpers are not rated to pull travel trailers. You need a proper reciever and a hitch.

RE: Stealth camping on private property

I'm not so sure that a decommissioned military base can be called "private property"...doesn't Uncle Sam keep Title to such properties?.. Ah no, in fact almost never. That's the entire point of closing a base. Moses Lake Air Port is a former AF Base, military = public property now it's owned by the county. county = public property Farragut State Park is a former Navy training base, now it's owned by the State. state = public property Fort Lawton is now owned by the city of Seattle. city = public property Every example you gave is public property, not private. A military base NOT public property!

RE: Train from Williams to South Rim ?

If the "Bloody Mary Lady" Is still on the train, take her up on it. She makes very good Bloody Mary's. We rode the diesel on the way up and the steamer on the way back. Enjoyable and well worth every penny for the experience. There is however not much in way of scenery.

RE: Waste of paper and $$$$$

mguay, do you have proof that's it's a waste of money? Do you have insight to Camping World's advertising department? I really doubt that a company as savy as Camping World would waste money on an advertising program if it it didn't benifit them in some way. If it bothers you that much don't be a member.

Don't over complicate it. Take an disposable aluminum pan; 9x13. Turn it upside down poke holes with a knife, enlarge to fit cone and enjoy.
