RE: Generator not starting on Natural Gas

I have a Yamaha 2800 watt tri-fuel generator. My operator's manual states that ALL gasoline must be out of the carburetor before it will run on LP. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you stated that when you start it on gas and then shut off the gas supply until the carburetor runs dry, then unit will start and run on LP. If and when I run my unit on gas, I always run the carburetor dry and I have never had a problem of starting the unit on LP. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

RE: Intermittent electrical problem when starting

Have a "load" test performed on the chassis battery. A battery can show to be fully charged, but will not have any "cranking" power". A "load" test can be performed at many of the large parts stores like NAPA and Auto Zone; normally, there is no charge for this service.

RE: ready brake install

Some firewalls are not completely flat. Some have areas that are recessed where both panels of the firewall are pressed together (no air gap between the 2 panels. On my Jeep Wrangler, I drilled through one of the recessed areas and I had no problem installing the brake cable.
If your firewall does not have a recessed area near the brake pedal, then I suggest you call Ready Brake. I am sure they will be able to help you. They were very helpful to me when I installed my system back in 2007.
Wishing you the best.

RE: Harbor Freight Motorcycle carrier

If you are planning on using this type of carrier on the bumper of the trailer instead of the tow vehicle I would do some serious beef up of the trailer frame/bumper metal works.
There isn't much to work with on the OEM RV trailer bumpers...
There are a few photos here on this google link showing what others have done. Might give you some ideas.

just my thoughts
Roy Ken
The unit he is considering is a receiver-mount carrier. On my former 5th wheel, it had a frame mounted receiver installed at the factory. He should however verify the tongue weight rating of his receiver.

RE: Cable Pullys on Slide-Outs

I have 2 slides in a 2008 class A with the Accu-Slide cable system manufactured by BAL RV Products Group . I have had nothing but trouble with both of these slides. I can almost fix, repair or make anything whether mechanical or electrical. I must admit, I met my match replacing cables on my slides; to replace them is a nightmare. There is absolutely NO access to the cable pulleys. There are 8 cables on each slide, one on each top and bottom corners, 4 to pull the slide out and 4 to retract the slide.
The other problem is that most RV repair facilities do NOT have technicians that are knowledgeable in this particular slide mechanism; that is the reason I have replaced cables in my slides myself. I even called 2 or 3 mobile RV mechanics; all of them refused to work on my slides. BAL has a website with a very good video, but the main problem is the very limited access to the cables and pulleys. Also, a gentleman named Tim Bell at BAL is very helpful, but he can only do so much when providing help over the phone.
When I bought my class A, unfortunately I guess I did not do my due diligence because I was not aware it had the BAL system.. I had never heard of Accu-Slide. Never again would I buy any RV with this nightmare of a slide system.
That is my story and I am sicking to it.

RE: Fresh water overflow during tow

This is not just a Jayco problem. I put shut off valves on my overflow pipes. Have two of them. Now all I have to remember is to open them when filling and using the pump, and close them when traveling.
I did the same thing on my last 3 RV's. Very simple installation, inexpensive and it WORKS.

RE: question on generator usage

#1 Yes you can start the generator while connected to shore power; the transfer switch will transfer power to your unit as Jim@HiTek noted. I normally disconnect the shore power before starting the generator just to make sure the transfer switch operates properly; maybe I am just being overly cautious.
#2 Exactly as Jim@HiTek stated. We run our front AC at night and close most of the front area air outlets; this in turn pushes the conditioned air to the rear bedroom area. It keeps the bedroom very cool without the noise of the back unit running.
#3 As I stated in #1, I would definitely unplug from shore power. After a power outage, when power is restored, you may get a high voltage spike that could damage your electrical system and some of your items such as microwave, televisions, computers, etc.

RE: Unmounted spare tire question

Why not mount it and include it in the tire rotation mix. Refer to www.michilinrvtires.com, tire guide, page 9, rotation.
How does mounting the tire solve his storage problem?
RaySorry for my post. I did not think about by mounting the tire it would remain clean inside. But it would be much heavier to handle when storing.

RE: Setting the time on dash radio - 2008 Monaco

Try the following:
1. Push and hold the "Display" button until the clock is flashing in the display.
2. Rotate the "Tune" knob to the left to adjust the minutes.
3. Rotate the "Tune" knob to the right to adjust the hours. NOTE the AM/PM indicator.
4. When correct time displays, wait a few seconds to allow the time to program.
Hope this helps.

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

If Wal-Mart charged a fee to overnight who would pay ?
I would -$10.00 for a few ZZZ's and quik off and on the road ? I would be all over it.
I would gladly pay $10 and most likely up to $20 just for the convenience. So, as I have always said, with me it is NOT about the money; it's about location and convenience.

RE: Boondocking at Walmart

WalMart's property, Walmart rules. If the City has rules prohibiting overnight parking, so be it. Life is full of rules and as we travel we run into more and more rules or laws that are not what we are used to in other places. My choice is to travel where I want to. I go to the places where I feel appreciated and to avoid those places that enact rules/laws that I do not agree with. That is why I have a Class A. It has a motor and can go to another location.
X2 Exactly!

RE: windshild problem

How far are you from Eugene, OR? RV Glass Solutions replaced my large, one-piece windshield and gasket in 2010. No further problems. The windshield was cracked by another windshield repair facility when they attempted to replace the gasket that had become dislodged. RV Glass Solutions only handle glass problems; they do not perform any other RV services.

RE: Ground Bees

I think you may be referring to mud wasps. They burrow into the ground looking for grub worms. Fortunately, I do not get many because I treat my lawn for grub worms. for the few that I do see, I use wasp and hornet spray to kill them.

RE: Our 23 year old daughter committed suicide 4-11-13

I just prayed for you and your family. I prayed that God would give you grace and comfort during this heartbreaking time. May you look to God to ease your pain. We can never fully understand why things like this happen. We just have to keep our faith in God knowing that He is in control and that He still loves us.

RE: Any good timers for turning on-off lamps when away?

I use timers manufactured by Intermatic Corp, model DT27. They can be programmed for several on/off times each day or can be set for random. They are not the easiest to setup, but they are very good quality. Then again, I am not the most techy. Also, they use a small battery that powers the timer portion; in the event there is a power outage, when the power is restored, the timers still work as they were programed. Sorry I do not remember where I purchased the timers.
