RE: Another airfoil option

Wow! Thanks for doing that. The results will add to the common body of knowledge whether it works or not.
The airflow for truck campers is abysmal and this is one area sadly lacking in options.
Any improvement will help.

RE: Device for Alignment and Centering of TC when loading

I like that concept but struggle with the idea that the jacks would suffer a degree of twisting.
Have you used it yet?
How far out of alignment can it be?

RE: Am I losing my seat?

Yes. I removed the back seat assembly and stored it in my shop.
The space it opened up is very valuable. . .enough to carry two inflatable kayaks and gear.
Whatever shelf space you build in should be easily removable so that the space can be reconfigured for different needs.

RE: California Fire

I tried to read each comment in this thread and the one thing I didn't see anyone mention was that the photo was a long shot with a telephoto lens and I'd like to believe that there is actually a lot more distance between the fireman and those two burning RV's. Anyone familiar with the use of a telephoto lens's will know that distance can be deceiving when viewed through a compressed shot.
And any property loss usually means the owner is out a fair amount of their investment even with the best of insurance.
My two cents, Hans
And a very good two cents, Hans.

RE: 1150 vs. 990

You didn't state whether the truck will be gas or diesel powered - an important detail!
That makes a difference when it comes to truck's actual payload.
If the truck has the heavier diesel engine, you will find that the truck with camper will exceed it's rated GVWR capacity.
Either way, the truck will "handle fine" if you add adjustable shocks such as Rancho 9000's. You might want air bags as well to help level it out.
If you have the diesel engine and the AF 1150 - it will be overloaded by a lot!
If you are not comfortable with that, then the 990 would be a more prudent purchase.

RE: California Fire

Fire can move IMPOSSIBLY fast.
We lived in the foothills of Southern California for many years and have seen fire burn to within accross the street. Fire that started many miles away the previous day!
The Fireman:
Was the fireman told that someone working on that camper? Napping inside?
Did the storage manager report "no propane tanks" allowed in storage?
. . .too many unknowns to even form a thoughtful opinion.

RE: Extreme TC - with everything!

The camper door is located on the back and it's a varnished wooden hatch from a sea going vessel.
They added some gear to the back since I've seen it last - about two years ago.

RE: Prices for a new roof.. Who knew?!

Each of us are entitled to our own ideas as to how to handle this experience. I read the OPs post and found it pretty simple. He told the people he paid to give the estimate:
"snip ... I could go on, but suffice it to say there is absolutely no way I would spend the prices you have quoted and frankly, I feel a bit insulted and offended.
I will not be utilizing your services. "
I see no apples to compare, for the OP to provide this response.
Unfortunately, indications are the Thread is going sideways in splitting hairs with guessing details.

This subject has been discussed before hasn't it?
And wasn't the conclusion (in the previous topic) that the bid was outrageously high because the job bidder didn't want the job?
A guy's gotta' right to complain.
(note to self: new roofs are probably very expensive)

RE: Prices for a new roof.. Who knew?!

I read a quote from one place who's quote was for an aluminum roof.
The other place for rubber roof, aluminum roof, and if Dak did/didn't help remove parts.
What part of apples to apples are we missing??
You need multiple bids from "like" companies to determine if costs are out of line with market pricing.
Taking umbrage with one company over their quote. . .well, . . .

RE: Prices for a new roof.. Who knew?!

They should charge what the market will bear.
Knowing the cost of materials is incidental in comparison to "knowing the market".
Your letter would have been more helpful to the repair firm if it compared apples-to-apples: Mobile repair compared to mobile repair companies.
It would be nice (and surprising) if they don't disregard your letter as an emotional response and they report back to you with an itemized list of how they arrive at their charges.

How much time to spend in three big parks (en route)

Due to a job offer, our planned leisurely trip north from Arizona is almost being aborted.
But it looks like we can still visit:
1) Canyon de Chelly
2) Monument Valley
3) Arches National Park
The question is, how much time to allot to each park?
30% each park?
30/40/30 ?
Any suggestions?

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

It is with a truely sad experience that I must inform you that Northwood has this to say about de-lamination on any of their Camper models. "( We will not and have never guaranteed that we will be responsible for any de-lamination regardless of how old any unit is even if it was built yesterday)" This by the lead guy that day I brought it there. (NO Names). I was told to drive my TC to the factory by phone conversation, to La Grand only to have it inspected for a basket ball size bubble in the side wall, that took five minutes to inspect, and to be turned immediately around and told we will not do anything about it and it is your responsibility to repair it. I spent 36 thousand dollars on this custom TC and this is what I get?
Shocked, in disbelief and 300 dollars in diesel can't say that I would or could recommend this unbelievable experience to anyone...and to think I have had one before...never again.
There is a very reputable RV repair outfit in Oregon that you might try if AF doesn't help you.
As for the We will not and have never guaranteed that we will be responsible for any de-lamination regardless of how old any unit is even if it was built yesterday. . .that's unlikely to ever be true.
A defective frame could cause delamination.
Most frame warranties are for one year or possibly two years.
(I couldn't find any mention of a warranty on the AF brochure.)
So that doesn't leave you many options.
Even so, the factory should have offered to attempt to repair it at a reasonable cost.
Sorry about all the cyber bullying. . .

RE: Tree "Stripes"

Ask the city about set backs and traffic intrusion.
Get a pic and see if you have a claim.
Spoken like a true Californian! I love it!
Actually, trees (and we have millions of them) grow so fast in the PNW during the spring that every camper driven will have stripes if it's used often.

RE: How many see actual 12.6- 13.6 after driving 6 hrs.??

Check each battery cell with a battery hydrometer.
This is something that I make a routine every six months or so. . .check the camper batteries, truck batteries, lawn mower, tractor, auto....
Found a weak cell in one of the truck batteries last fall. . .took it back for a partial prorated refund.
This is critical for the Ford 6.0 diesel owners - as a weak cell can damage the FICM and cause big $$$ problems.
(whoops! off topic) :)

RE: Fiberglass Delam - Unsure of Manufacturers Recommendation

The Chalet build is basically a rip-off of the old Eagle Cap build method. And they CAN patch and make it perfect.
I've seen it done with an entire front cap cut, shortened and patched like new.

RE: Fix your flat

Does anybody have a positive experience with the fix-a-flat product in the can? I keep a can in all of my vehicles but I've never had the opportunity to use one yet. Anybody?
Yes, I've used it several times on autos.
It works. The tire will still need additional air because the can won't inflate to maximum recommended tire pressure.
Down side: it will ruin the tires Tire Pressure Monitoring sensor if so equipped.
