RE: Tow vehicle help

Our work 2011 F250, 4x4, crew cab, short bed, gasser has a ~2300# payload. Add the diesel option and reduce the payload by 600 - 800lbs. I think the 4x2 has a better payload than the 4x4.

RE: Tow vehicle help

I had the 08 F250 Crew Cab 6.4 diesel short box 10,000 GVW. I believe the 5th wheel towing for that truck is 15,400. I also had E rated 20 inch tires which gave me 7500 lbs on the rear axle. The rawr for that truck is 6100lbs, the truck is heavy! With me and a full tank of diesel weighed in at 8300lbs, the sticker on the door cargo capacity was 1700lbs. I added Firestone air ride bags with the onboard compressor. My 5th wheel purchased new in 2011, is a 40 foot bunkhouse with 1 1/2 baths and 3 slides 15,500 gvw. The pin loaded ready to camp was just over 3000lbs. After the hitch and passengers I was over the trucks ratings but under the tire rating. I towed the trailer over 5000 miles last year, the truck did great. I just couldn't get over the fact I was over my weight ratings, I am OCD that way. All I could imagine was blowing a tire on the truck with that big 5th behind me. I didn't FEEL safe, didn't mean that I wasn't safe, just felt that way. I always drove the speed limit never in a hurry but I knew the truck was to small for that big of a rig. After many conversations such as these, I took the advice of the weight police and upgraded to the dually. I can say after the 1st trip last week it is night and day, so much better. I know you have a dually but in my opinion I would not tow any 5er over 12,000lbs with anything less than a 350/3500 SRW.

RE: new trailer now What Truck? half ton or 3/4 ton?

1 ton dually. ROFL! Enuff said! :) IMO 3/4 ton at the least.

RE: Buying a Used 5th Wheel

Last year used my F250 6.4 short box to tow our Komfort 3530 gvw 15500 lbs. Truck had plenty of power but I was limited with the payload of the crew cab and heavy diesel engine. So I upgraded to a dually. Much better towing!

RE: Hitch Choice

I have the Curt 20k Slider. Bought it for my F250 short box, works great inexpensive, heavy. Didn't want to spend more money on another hitch so I installed the slider in my F350. No troubles what so ever. Good luck.

RE: CURT 5th whl hitch

I have the Curt Q5 20k slider. Have been using it all of last year, no problems at all. Easy hitch, easy release, and I like that the teeth go all the way around the pin. The ride with my rig is smooth no chucking and little or no noise while traveling. I would recommend it to anyone!

RE: Towing

Get a Diesel, spend your money once. You will want a bigger RV and then you will loose money on replacing your truck. Avoid the used PS 6.0 and 6.4 Fords you will probably end up with someone elses problem. Heard 06 was a good year for the D MAX any year 04 and newer RAM will be fine. Don't be hatin' my 6.4 PSD. I have no problems and would put it next to any of my friends trucks (dodge and chevy)! Regular maintenance is the key. I agree you will want a bigger RV, Don't limit yourself, shop around there are some great deals out there! Good luck. Meant no disrespect! The fact is a lot of the time when someone sells a rig is because they have had problems and the 6.0 and 6.4 have. If yours has been good you have no reason to sell it. Agree, treat them good goes a long way, but sometimes you have no control. Your truck does look good! Cummins absolutely just kiddin with ya! I know you didn't mean anything by the comment. Believe me if I didn't find my truck I was goin with a 2011 Dodge! 08 ford was much cheaper! Here on Long Island you can't find any GMC or Dodge duallies used for sale. The pickins are real slim.

RE: Diesel prices tumbling!!

Let's revisit this thread in a year and see what fuel prices are. Even better yet, let's revisit this sometime in January 2013 after this year's Christmas travel season is over. January 2013 after the inauguration! Its an election ploy! LOL ;)

RE: 5th Wheel values Dropping fast

Just a fact of the times we are in. The next generation will not have the income to purchase such items. We will have to start exporting them to china. Or importing from China so the next generation can afford them. Can you imagine a cheap spec TT from China? I bet it wouldn't last three yrs. I know China can build good stuff too, depending on how it's spec's, but what about an outsourced low spec Lippert frame from China. Comforting isn't it? Considering how they make their tires I couldn't imagine a whole rig!

RE: New to us 5th wheel camper

Congratulations on the new rig! It is a beauty! Love the color and graphics. Good luck with it. :)

RE: Komfort auto-levelers

We bought our 3230FRK last year. Have there been some things that ticked me off? Certainly. Overall, we love the trailer. It has the look and layout that suits us perfectly. Komfort started putting the auto-leveler on the year after ours, so we don't have that option. I have thought about it. But I am also looking at addign a solar kit to the fiver and the upgrade budget is limited. x2 :). We bought the 3530, so far everything has worked out fine. I would recommend Komfort.

RE: 5er Bed Rail Clearance

Will do! I will be traveling south next week, so I will jump on a scale first chance I get. Thanks for the feedback!

RE: 5er Bed Rail Clearance

http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/8585/350andtrailer.jpg What a difference towing with the dually. Truck and trailer rode great! Measured on level ground 1 inch squat on the truck, trailer rides 2 inches higher in the front. I am going to leave the setup the way it is, no need to add anything as far as now.

RE: CG's Close To Long Island?

I am here on the Island too. We like Long island campground in Greenport. We will be there in October for the halloween weekend, its a great time. We will be in indian island the end of july with a group, never been there but hope it will be good. It is hard to do Just a few hour drive being that it takes 2 hours to get over the GW. Lake George area is great, so much to do, fort ticonderoga, saratoga, great escape, and of course lake george itself. I envy people out west that are only a matter of hours of the most beautiful sites our country has to offer.

RE: New to the 5'er community!

I'll never forget the sinking feeling in my stomach when I hooked up the rig for the first time, that F250 short box got real small real fast in front of the Komfort 3530. The air bags are great, and will help take all the sag out. I used to ride with 50 to 55 lbs of air in the bags. No chucking at all. I want to travel out west and the DW wants the washer/dryer, so a bigger truck was a must have. Happy wife happy life! 33 years and goin strong. Take it slow leave yourself plenty of time to stop and good luck. Be safe!

RE: New to the 5'er community!

If its the Komfort 3530 BHS the gvw is 15500, with an advertised pin around 2500. My Komfort weighed ready to camp no water 13,778 with a pin weight of just over 3000 lbs. My F250 was over the Gvw and the rawr of 6100lbs, I had E rated 20 inch tires that were rated for 3750 each. I did install firestone air ride bags with the onboard compressor. The truck towed great but I couldn't help but feel the truck wasn't big enough. If your gonna keep your F250 I would recommend the airbags.
