RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Don't feel bad, I didn't think of it at first either.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Hope you all don't mind me asking but I was wandering what type of ladder do you use to get to the top of the front cap? I have a 10 foot folding ladder but even with it right next to the cap there are some areas that curve up and away that I can't reach. Is it okay to lean an extension ladder with pads on the ends against the cap?
I dropped the landing legs down as low as feasible, and used one of the Werner folding platforms that I think is about 24" tall placed on the dropped tailgate of my truck. I was able to get to the roofline on all but the farthest corners. For those I used a 6' step ladder. I'm 6'4" so I'm sure being kinda tall helps too.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Can I use the Flagship wax on top of the 2 coats of #50 wax I've already applied?

I'm pretty happy with the results of the wax. I just didn't do what needed to be done first by removing the oxidation.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound with the DA Power System I posted above, followed by two coats of Meguiar's #50 RV/Marine Cleaner Wax applied by hand.

Had incredible results. The front cap looks better than it has since it rolled off the dealers lot.

I ran out and got one of the Meguiars DA Power Systems. I'll see how it works tomorrow.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Quick question : Do I have to get one of these expensive polishers to use for the Ultimate Compound, or would one of the less expensive (sub $50) orbital units work?

Which Bar Keepers Friend? Spray, powder, or the liquid "Soft Cleanser?"

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Good news is the ultimate compound seems to work well. Bad news is it started raining after I had only finished the uppermost quarter of the front cap. Probably a blessing in a way. Now I can get a buffer instead of continuing by hand. My arms are already killing me!

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

OK, just did three iterations of washing and rinsing with Palmolive dishwashing soap in an effort to strip the wax I applied yesterday. Letting it dry now, then planning to do a test spot with the ultimate compound since I have some of that in the shop.
I was looking at that #45 Polish as well. There are just so many options, each with a little bit different effect.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

After researching a bit, I'm worried that the Ultimate Compound may be too aggressive. Would the oxidation remover do better?

Would Meguiars Ultimate Compound fit the bill?
Edited: I think this is probably a better solution? #49 Oxidation Remover

I'm sorry, what do you mean by starting over? Wash with something that will strip the wax and then start over by first using a polishing compound then waxing?

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

I wasn't really going for a "quick shine." I spent some time cleaning the cap well and removing old bug carcasses and it was obvious that the luster was gone. I researched on here and the Meguiars #50 was highly recommended.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Thanks for your experience. The wax I used is made for the gel coat fiberglass, so I don't see how that would be a problem??

Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

So, I washed and waxed the cap of my 5er yesterday, and the wax left behind what I can only describe as smudge marks. This is my first time waxing the cap, and am worried I'm doing something wrong. I used the Meguair's #50 RV/Marine Cleaner Wax. The cap does have a bit more shine after two coats of the wax, but the smudge marks look kinda rough. I tried to take a picture, but it's cloudy here today so it's hard to see what I'm describing. You can sort of see some of the marks around the decals in the pic below. I know that in the sunlight they will be much more evident. Any advice? I used an applicator pad to apply the wax, and microfiber towels to buff it off. No amount of pressure seems to make any difference in removing the marks. Thanks.

RE: Bugs on the front of the 5th wheel from traveling

This is what I used. It combined with a microfiber towel worked wonders on bug guts that had been on the front cap of my 5er for years. I was amazed at the results.
