RE: Moore OK Tornado dog found during news interview

It was even harder for me to watch since my wife and I have a black schnauzer just like it.

Have stayed there many times. You won't be disappointed. I don't have any pictures for you, but there really isn't a bad site anywhere in the park.

RE: Midwest SNOW Storm

We left Tropical Palms in Florida last Wednesday with the hope of being home by Easter. Thank goodness we decided to stop at the Escapees Park in Gulf Shores. Will hold up here until the weather warms up in Wisconsin.

RE: Two questions for Snowbirds...

Speaking of geese, have you ever noticed that when geese fly (either north or south), they always seem to fly in a V formation? One of the legs of this V formation always seems to be longer than the other. Any idea why this is? Answer - there are more geese on that side. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

RE: De-Nile??

Yes, the same thing is happening in Florida. Parks that use to be very near full several years ago at this time of the year, now have alot of empty spots. My wife and I took a road trip around the west coast of Florida a week ago and looked at several RV parks for future ref. and found alot of room in every park we stopped at.

RE: Costs of Snowbirding

Like Clutch1 stated, "It depends on what you are looking for". Come to Tropical Palms in Florida (near Disney)and you will pay $4400 for 4 months (of course that includes electric), but it is location, location, location. We love it here.

RE: Florida in 2 weeks

We are at Tropical Palms near Disney, and right now the place is packed for the New Years weekend. I'm sure that come Wednesday, there will be plenty of room for anyone looking for a nice place to spend the winter. Come on down.

RE: Power surge when plugged into 110 - outlets now dead.

Every outdoor outlet (garage, porch, side of house, etc.) that I ever came across was attached to a GFCI somewhere. We sold our home several years ago when we retired and now maintain an apt. up north when we aren't traveling, and the outlets in the garage and on the porch are tied to a GFCI in one of the bathrooms. I agree with the others, a GFCI is tripped somewhere.

RE: Florida in January

We did the same thing a few years ago, before the economy crashed, and never had a problem finding a site. Since the economy crashed, you should certainly not have a problem. RV parks that use to be full don't even come close to full now.

RE: Florida RV Parks, Walking Distance of Restaurants Etc?

We winter at Tropical Palms RV Resort near Disney World. The resort is on Hwy 192 about 2 miles east of I-4. It is right behind Old Town (a tourist attraction)and there are alot of restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping areas well within walking distance. The resort is very nice and has alot to do.
The resort property is also right next door to the town of Celebration, which is another wonderful place to visit (good restaurants and shopping). The resort is about 70 miles from Tampa and is a easy drive (interstate all the way). We love it here because of all the things to do in the area.

RE: Dis.World Ft. Wilderness,Pet Site?

Besides having alot of pet loops now, they also have a large, fenced, pet run. Our dog practically drags me to the pet park. She knows how to get there no matter what loop they put us in. Your dog(s) will love it.

storing car over winter

We're leaving one of our cars in the garage this winter while we head south for 5 months. Should I leave the battery in the car or what do most of you do?

RE: south florida short term

Key West could be a problem, but otherwise, you shouldn't have any problems finding campsites. Key West is a very small city with narrow streets and tight corners. It is not RV friendly. Find a campground on one of the other keys prior to Key West and than just drive down to Key West with toad or tow vehicle.

RE: Internet connection

Yes, it is very simple. You must, however, have a way of charging batteries in your cell phone or laptop. We use Verizon. We have a Motorola Droid cell phone which we can use to access the internet and we have a Verizon broadband stick for our laptop. We have yet to find an area where we can't access the internet (as long as there is cell service in the area). Even in Alaska last summer, we had service in all populated areas.

RE: Welcome Back Florida Snowbirds

Hey MPI Mallard, don't let Dick B get to you. Some of our best friends are Canadians and we look forward to seeing them every winter down in Florida. Besides, alot of people from Ill. march to a different tune. Also, we visited the resort you were at last winter several times (have some very good Canadian friends in Osprey) and walked by your site several times but you weren't around when we stopped to say HI. Anyway, are you going to be there again this year? You don't know us, but I recognized your rig from seeing it in the park.

RE: What inspired you to start RVing?

Partied with friends at a local campground several times and decided this camping thing was OK. That was 37 years and 8 RVs ago. My wife and I still love it. We full-timed for 6 1/2 years after we retired and now still snowbird for 5-6 months (plus alot of local camping during the summer here in Wiscosnin). All I can say to anyone that's even thinking about trying it is "GO FOR IT!
