RE: Hotels with camper amenities

On our trip from PA to Disney in 2008 We stopped at a Ramada Inn in Florence SC right off I95. We discovered after check-in that there was a Campground called Swamp Fox campground directly behind the Ramada. Since we hit a lot of traffic on the way down, took us over 12 hours just to get there, we decided not to unhook and set up. Figured in the morning we could just eat and leave. On the return trip we stopped at a KOA. If I were to travel this route again, I would stop at South of the Border and Camp there.

RE: What are your fun family activites while camping?

If we are not fishing, we are Kayaking and we have water wars on the Kayaks like 2 warring vessels on the open seas. I have 2 daughters (12 and 15, so me and the 12 Y/o vs wife and 15 y/o and we "broadside" with water guns until empty they try to evade.
Happy hour is washer toss and/or ladder toss.
At night we have a campfire, make s'mores and popcorn. for good kettle popcorn get an "over the campfire popcorn popper" tastes ten time better than Microwave and not too much work. Sister-in-law got me one for Christmas a couple of years ago and is very good. If we make a lot we will usually play poker and the extra popcorn is the ante. Otherwise it is crazy 8's until bedtime.

RE: SE PA/DE/E MD families?

Hi, We are in Montgomery County PA and always looking to make new friends. I have 2 daughters, 12 and 15. Lots to do in this tri-state area but always wanted to camp with a group since most of my friends either don't have an RV or are not interested in camping. If staying local within 2 hour drive, amusement parks like Knoebels, Hershey, Great Adventure, even Dorney (a little close for me) all having water parks could be an option. Also would be up for some farther excursions.

RE: Southeastern PA to Yellowstone - How long?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am just outside of Philadelphia. Would think to AF Museum would be 8 hours for me. Really didn't have a clue as to what is necessary to travel to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse but will now take that into consideration. Mainly an east coast traveler but wanted to broaden my experience. Considered just going to the AF Museum in the near future but do not know where to go or what else there is to do as well.

Southeastern PA to Yellowstone - How long?

Hi,
Would like to take a trip to Yellowstone NP, preferably in summer. Family of 4 with the youngest being 12. Google maps put it as 32 hours. Would plan on making a couple of stops i.e Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Air Force Museum, probably on the return since returning is usually more depressing. Is a 2 week vacation enough or do I need more. is 3 days out and 3 days back accurate? Is 32 hours realistic? baring traffic/construction.
Anyone in the general vicinity or opposite direction made the trek?

RE: For those of you that cover your HTT rv?

I agree with the other posts regarding the ADCO covers. I'd like to think my ADCO cover keeps my HTT looking good. My HTT is parked next to my house and covered. Clean and protect the rubber roof and a coat of wax prior to covering along with covering the tires and I am good to go for an unpredictable PA winter. One thing if considering an ADCO cover. Try to find something that covers the sharp and protruding parts of the RV. The cover is good but will rip over these areas especially in high winds. try to protect the thing that is protecting your RV.

RE: 2 questions: Frig Condensation hose & Power cord

I don't recall a drain hose for the freezer. There is a water catch tray under the Refrigerator vents or blades which creates condensation. The catch tray then empties into a cup which exits into a coiled hose on the other side of the fridge. I'd have to check but the defrosting of the freezer may empty onto the same catch tray. Make sure the tray (which is removable) is inserted in the correct slots and flush with the back wall of the fridge. Otherwise the drain funnel of the catch tray won't empty into the catch cup and out to the hose. It would just drain into the fridge. It can be easily dislodged or bumped out of place so you may want to add it to your loading and unloading checklist.

RE: Rain

Completely normal. That is your rubber roof. Mine sounds the same and when those acorns hit periodically, it sounds like they might be coming through.

RE: 2 questions: Frig Condensation hose & Power cord

Well, I really did it to myself today. tried to disconnect the remaining hose and basically made it incredibly short. the tried to pop out the water catch cup from inside the RV fridge...SNAP! broke the end off in between. Decided to run a hose from the drip pan down along back wall and into a food storage bin at the bottom of the fridge. Not too concerned about the bin since in normally holds a few cans of beer. Oh Well, at least the beer will be cold. Thanks for the advice.

RE: Sewer hose

I purchased the Valterra EZ coupler when I bought my HTT 7 years ago. 2 15 foot sections w/bayonet. fits well in bumper. Rhino looks good too. Suspect they all are good as long as you take care of them.

RE: HTT for family of 5 - Sharing my research...

One more thing regarding your Tow vehicle. If you expect to upgrade your trailer to 10K lbs or better, then get bigger than a 1/2 ton otherwise 1/2 ton should be fine with towing packages and crew cabs
Chevy Silverado/GMC 1500 Crew
Ram 1500
Ford F 150
DW refused to drive anything bigger than 1500 for everyday use / commuting. Thought it was too big even though not by much. You will also sacrifice fuel economy when you are not towing.

RE: HTT for family of 5 - Sharing my research...

I have a 2006 Antigua 215SSO and love it as well. Comparable to a Roo SSO based on layout with the slide. Basically the deciding factor came down to DW's choice of the interior design and color. Have to keep 'em happy to be happy! As for tow vehicle, Full size Pick up with crew cab. remember there is 5 of you. You'll need a place for your gear and until someone invents an RV bumper that can carry at least 4 bikes on the rear, you will have a place to put them. Carried them inside trailer and it was more of a pain to deal with. Also easier to carry a generator, fuel and water in the bed as opposed to inside, if you intend on Boondocking or camping without any hookups
You pick the brand. Best of Luck!

I was hoping for a less invasive repair. Recovering from Rotator cuff surgery so I am basically useless in this regard. recovery will be long. Thanks for the advice.

RE: What Do We Need???

I agree use it a couple times first. If you are going to use it only once then winterize and if it does not already have one, install at water tank bypass kit so you can draw the antifreeze directly out of the container as opposed to filling your fresh water tank. Get a blow out plug too. I use both.

RE: 2 questions: Frig Condensation hose & Power cord

No, Cord is in a completely separate compartment in the rear of the RV. there is a small panel just off the floor which I speculate is to give you access to the cord compartment but I never looked.

RE: Looking at a Starcraft Any Advice??

I have a 2006 Antigua 215SSO and absolutely love it! This was my first RV. Yes, I am seeing signs of age but I bought it new in 2005 and it has been great. One of my previous posts I stated I did have a leak which was fixed. Fortunately, it was in the bathroom. I have replaced the AC unit but that is more Dometic than Starcraft. When it is time to move on, I will shop for a 5th wheel. Lots of Memories and more to come. Unit similar to mine would probably be the Roo SSO. A lot of happy Rockwood Roo Campers out there too. going with a slide was a good idea for me.

2 questions: Frig Condensation hose & Power cord

Hello,
First question: has anyone replaced the refrigerator condensation hose? I cannot reach the end to attach the hose. too many things in the way. Can you remove from inside the refrigerator and fish it through?
Second Question: The shore Power cord on my Starcraft and/or others. Are they hardwired. Power cord occaisionally gets caught when extending. Have never seen the other end. Just wondering.

RE: Why doesn't everyone use eternabond? are there cons?

In my third season I went to Disney's Fort Wilderness and one night we had a heavy, heavy thunderstorm, My skylight leaked something fierce. I brought it to the dealer when I returned. They performed a leak test. They repaired the roof with Liquid Roof, all the seams. I re-applied 2 years later. You paint it on. let it cure for 24 hours and you are good to go. haven't had a leak or concern since. EternaBond is a cheap fix. Liquid roof was $35 a quart but I have had piece of mind since. IMHO Prefer painting than caulking or unrolling.

RE: tiny crack in fiberglass- how to repair

Bondo. Same stuff you use for cars. How to stop? Not sure other than maybe drilling a small hole at the end to stop it from spreading.
