RE: 6.0 or 6.4 FORD to CUMMINS or GM / reasons to make the jump.

Dodge has tested a Cummins V6 in the 1500 and has lots of Fiat engines to bring in. Could most likely get to market sooner than the other two, IF THERE WAS A MARKET IN THE US FOR SUCH A VEHICLE. Which is highly questionable!

RE: pulling a toy hauler over 40 feet in CA?

So if I understand this issue, it is a California drivers license issue? As other than exceeding Max tire ratings it is almost impossible of a pickup to break Federal/State weight laws.

RE: Load Range G Tires

Most trailers delivered on or using ST235/80R16E will do much better on the GY G614's. It seems that the G614 only had issues when used at its Max rating or over it. Hard to understand someone questioning that move as a replacement for a 3420 rated ST. What would the logic or motivation for someone to question that upgrade?

RE: 6.0 or 6.4 FORD to CUMMINS or GM / reasons to make the jump.

They all have their warts from time to time, year to year, and model to model. I love my 2001.5 Dodge Cummins, but spent 4,400 bucks to build a custom tranny for towing. I replaced the VP-44 at 52K for $1046 when I got dead pedal a couple times. A lot of GM LLY engines overheat, and many Mid 2000 Duramax's get injectors around 100K. So I do not think we have to pick on Ford's short comings! Each person needs to do their research. I would like a newer Dodge - 2006 to 2007 5.9L, however I do not want a 48RE tranny! The newer 2007 6.7 have a good tranny but a couple other warts that I do not want to live with. Engine oil fuel dilution and lower mileage. A 2007 Classic GM would be good (good engine and 6 speed auto), except for the dated interior and no exhaust brake. So pick your warts carefully!

RE: Load Range G Tires

The axles are 8 lug which is the same as my truck. That's why I could use the truck spare as a second spare on the trailer. It may be that I am OK with my present tires on smooth roads. But, I have to travel through PA and parts of NY with terrible interstates. I have never had this trailer weighed but have had previous ones weighed by RVSEF. So, if the weights come back and show that there is too much weight on the right side, what do I do get rid of the refrigerator? What is the GAWR on the placard? Don't get rid of the refrigerator, change tire types. You could switch to Maxxis M8008 tires, however you would still be on short life cycle speed restricted ST tires that should be replaced every 3-4 years and 5-12K miles. That 5-12K number quoted from a Maxxis rep is interesting. How does one know if they need to replace the tire at 5K or 12K? If 5k or 8K is the life and you try to go 12K, then you repeat what just happen. It is to bad that you are beyond the weight of 16" load range E LT's, as the steel carcass offering in those are good for 40K or more and 6-8 years is not a problem with them. Providing they had current dates when installed. In reality you are looking at G614's (providing your rims are good for the 110lbs) or upgrading to 17.5 rims and tires. Or more future early failures by staying with ST tires. No free lunch here!!!!

RE: Diesel prices tumbling!!

Another example, fuel in Washington state jumps in price as you approach the Canadian border because fuel companies know Canadians cross to buy fuel so they can charge more near the border. And in their effort to stick it to our friends just across the border, they are sticking it to the locals. Gas and Diesel is cheaper in Spokane in Eastern Washington than it is in Western Washington. And guess which side of the State the refineries are located in?

RE: Load Range G Tires

You asked, is it worth it? Yes getting away from lightly constructed ST tires is worth it. Look at the difference in weight of the two tires: Goodyear G614 LT235/85R16 LRG (rated to 3750lbs) Weight 57. GY Marathon ST235/80R16 LRE(rated to 3420lbs) Weight 35.4 Make sure your rims are rated to 110 pounds inflation or 3750 load to switch to load range G tires. If you have to get new rims, then get 17.5 rims and 215/75R17.5 LRH tires, which are slightly less in diameter than the G614's. LRH are rated to 4805 pounds. You should really weigh your trailer separately at each tire position. If you are close to or over 3500 lbs on a axle end on that side, then go for the 17.5 Rims and tires. You have to find a scale that will allow you to put just one side of the trailer on the platform at a time. Weigh the front axle tire and then both on one side. Then do the math for the rear axle. (Both-Front=Rear) Repeat on the other side. Note about current tires. The Marathon is rated to 3420. So the trailer may have 7K axles with a Placard stating GAWR at 6750 or something like that. I found a video tour of one of these models, and it showed 8 lug wheels. So it looks like 7K axles that are de-rated for the Marathon tires.

RE: Diesel prices tumbling!!

Sno King What does #1 have to do with added cost to produce ultra low sulphur fuel? That was his question and I answered it and added to it. I won't even open a link from the NY Times! No spin zone here. I am sure most on here will agree with my statement. Well here is another link for you then. Koch Oil

RE: Diesel prices tumbling!!

It could be BS but I was told making the diesel fuel into low sulfer formulation is part of what raised the diesel prices. That is true, also government over regulation, taxes, no drill policy. So on.... That is flat wrong. US is third largest producer in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production We have an excess of product at the time and are exporting finished product to other parts of the world, as demand is low in the US at this time. Market speculators are the major cause of high prices in recent times. Trade was deregulated from 1997 to 2000 by request from done other than Enron!!! http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/09/business/enron-s-many-strands-politics-enron-preaching-deregulation-worked-statehouse.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm Blaming this on "government over regulation, taxes, no drill policy" has no bases in fact, and is Polit..al spin!

RE: 2011 F-250 6.2 towing 2nd report

" If the current emissions choked diesel motors were as friendly as the pre emissions diesel's I wouldn't have a gasser now." I solved that issue by continuing to use my pre emissions 2001.5 Dodge/Cummins. Noisy, but tows well and gets 11-12MPG towing, 15 around town and 19-20 on the highway! At 100K it is getting broken in and about ready for its first valve adjustment.

RE: Trailer damage from tire seperation

I'm replacing all the tires with Maxxis 8008/LR E. State Farm is paying the claim and going after Goodyear for me. I kept both tires that went bad plus the two on the rear axle. The tires are all 2009 dated and the left rear tire is showing signs of seperating according to the Adjuster and I won't have to pay the deductable. State Farm now has all four and said I should be hearing from them shortly. Total damage estimate is about $5500. I will never buy another RV with Goodyear Marathons unless the dealer swaps them out for Maxxis. Hopefully the Maxxis tires will be marked "Made in Thailand"!

RE: pulling a toy hauler over 40 feet in CA?

Going that long your larger worry in CA is making sure you are within the gcwr of your truck. CHP has been known to run stings at the popular ohv locations. Could you sight that law? GCWR is a manufacturers warrantly issue. About the only weight law one can break with a RV is the tire ratings. State laws for axle weights follow the federal bridge weight laws. 12K for singles and 20K for dual.

RE: RE: Can I make 1100mi &back in 9 days

Don't kid yourself with your "1100" miles quote. Use the real numbers as 1100 miles is only only half of the trip. Your trip will be 2200 + miles in your nine days available. The typical RV traveler averages about 50 miles per hour so an 8 hour day of driving gets you 400 miles. You have 2/3 (6 days) of your trip rolling on the miles with only 3 days of destination fun. Far too much driving and not enough fun IMHO. And no offense here to others but there is not much in the way of natural / historial atractions along the way. The kids would enjoy a day or two at Six Flags or a water park in Dallas. I found mixing up the history and nature with modern fun for the kids make great trips. I'd make your trip with a 14 day plan but not 9. The Ozarks would make for a good family trip. P.S. Please add your truck and RV information to your signature. You mention a F250 with a 33 5'r but year and motor vary greatly. For example, a 1992 F250 gasser is nothing like a diesel 2012 F250. The more information you provide, the better advice offered. Colorado is a big state. You have many miles between "things" that you would what to see. Pike's Peak to Mesa Verde is 322 miles for two popular things to see. As said above, you need more time for an enjoyable trip.

RE: Albuquerque Balloon Fest

We did the balloon thing in 2007. It was great. The bus service from the RV area the the air park is great. We were at the very South end of the RV and still walked it from time to time just for the exercise. A balloon (Puma) landed next to our trailer one morning with the Ambassador from Spain and his aid aboard. They did the Champagne ceremony right there and gave us Puma goodies for helping with the balloon. Once in a life time experience that we might repeat some day.

RE: What happened to the Jordan Brake Controller

Update on Dr P "Because we still get phone calls every day asking for information about Dr. Performance power modules, we wanted to let you know that they went out of business in the summer of 2011. Questions we are most often asked include “How do I get warranty work on my Dr. Performance module that I bought a few years ago?” and “Do you know how we can get in contact with Dr. Performance?” The unfortunate truth is that they are completely out of business, haven’t answered their phone in almost six months, and any repair work on a damaged or faulty Dr. Performance module at this point is impossible."

Just a fact of the times we are in. The next generation will not have the income to purchase such items. We will have to start exporting them to china.

RE: Death wobble, need your ideas

More positive caster helps to overcome a front end going into a death wobble. Caster defined: To understand caster you need to picture an imaginary line that runs from through the upper ball joint and extends through the lower ball joint. From the side view the imaginary line will tilt forward or backward. The tilting of this imaginary line is defined as caster. Tilting the top of the line to the back is positive caster. Vehicle tracks straighter with more positive caster and steering effort goes up. Chance of death wobble goes down. Some do not seem to understand death wobble. http://www.kevinsoffroad.com/how-to-fix-your-own-death-wobble/ Something in this thread to check. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1086018-death-wobble-w-twin-i-beams-seeking-ideas.html

RE: TIRES (I know...)

Many LT265/75R16E's are only about half an inch taller. The LT245/75R16 has a lower load capacity that may not be adequate. Hello yet again. He has a three axle trailer. Do the math 6x3042=18252. I know you think the LT265/7516E is a good trailer tire, however it is not. No trailer comes OEM with this size. Get over it and the need for 8" wide wheels, please!
