RE: WHY USE AIR BAGS

Adding a sway bar if your truck doesn't have one, or swapping out to a stiffer sway bar if your truck already has a factory stock one, is about the best method to reduce sway.
Another easy method that can help reduce sway is to upgrade to heavier duty shocks, or simply replace worn out shocks with good ones.
On a truck that under-sprung for the load being carried, upgrading to heavier duty spring packs, or adding a leaf or leaves to the existing spring packs, certainly helps reduce sway, as well as overall rear suspension sag when loaded.
Also, adding overload springs to a truck that does not have them, or beefing up the overload springs of a truck that already has factory overloads, or even just adding overload spring bump stop spacers, such as Stable Loads, also helps reduce sway, as well as overall rear suspension sag when loaded.

RE: Great weekend until the transmission went south

The interior of that GM truck in the pic looks almost identical to inside of my old '82 GMC C3500 dually, even the red velour seat! Mine had a TH400 though.
I have to do a rebuild on the C6 in my F350 gasser. No big deal. I'm really dreading laying out the cash to fix up the E4OD in my diesel F350 though... :( Sure wish it had the ZF 5spd manual.

On a typical solid axle leaf spring rear end, the axle travels very slightly to the rear as it travels upward, due to the spring flattening out and the axle rotating about the front spring mount. The change is very slight. Your air bag fore/aft alignment shouldn't be affected noticeably by that nominal change in travel position of the axle.

If there's only 1/2-inch spacing between the tires when the truck is unloaded, sounds like either the tires are wider than stock size, or you're running way too low tire pressure, or you're running the wrong load range tire with too soft side walls. Stock tire size is probably 215/75-16E and you should be running 65 psi, I believe. Running under 45 psi, or running a C or D load range tire, or running 235's or 265's on the stock wheels could all cause a lack of spacing issue. All-stock, most duallys have a good inch and a half or more of spacing, unloaded.

I put a combination 4-pin/7-pin plug on my truck and can use both at the same time, since both are wired together to the same incoming wiring. Maybe replace your factory 7-pin plug with an aftermarket combo 4-pin/7-pin?

The bumper cutting looks good, as do the grille guard braces. Always like to see what you're doing with your rig, since you're not afraid to chop, drill and weld on it to make it how you want it. :B So many are afraid of saws drills and torches.

I have the 4" offset ball on order as I have to make a hay run here pretty soon but thought I would see what other new dodge owners were doing. I guess there must not be any looking in this forum.... ;0)
After installing the 4" offset ball that will put my cab distance to pin center the same as my Chevy short box is and that still required the "extenda-a-goose" to pull my horse trailer and I'm just not crazy about using both extenders at the same time.One option would be to take the trailer to a welding shop and have them extend the gooseneck tongue framing to reach further out over the truck.

B&W does make an offset ball for their Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. Look in the hitch accessories section of their web catalog.
The B&W Turnoverbal hitch in my F350 is mounted about 6" ahead of the axle center, per the mfg'r instructions I followed when I installed the hitch.

I know a lot of people whos HOAs don't allow them to have 1 ton vehicles...One of them replaced his F350 emblems with F250 ones....He did this before he was "caught" and nobody is the wiser.
There's more than one way to skin a cat.good idea. Those numb nuts from the hoa's that go around tatting on everyone about petty carp wouldn't know the difference between an f250 and an f450 even it ran them over. And I've thought about running over some of their pansy Prius @sses too!

If you have a current year dually, you get the 11.5" axel be it a gas or diesel. If you get a 6.0 in a SW rig, you get the 10.5" axle. The dmax has gotten the 11.5" axel since day one in pickups. The 8.1 got a 11.5 in the pickups, the 10.5 in burbs and vans. IIRC the dmax also gets the 10.5 in the vans too. BUT, the dmax in the vans is not as powerful as the pickups, hence not really needing a larger RA to handle the torque/hp.
Yes, a dually should have larger brakes than a SW rig, be them badged the same or different. Some of the badging nomenclature some of you talk bout, is n o different than in 88, when with GM, you have a 1500 with around a 6600 gvwr, a 2500 with a 7200, 3500sw with an 8600, and no dually, in 89 the dually 10K came out, and a 2500HD with a 350 and an 8600, the 8600 with a BB was a sw500......too many badge number discrepancies thru the year rankly. Better to look at the trucks from a gvwr standpoint.
My 89 R3500 cab and chassis, had a 10.5" RA, the 88 SW 3500 with a 454 a D70, the 96 sw a 10.5"......I did not get an 11.5" ra until 05 when I bought my current dually. I've had no issues with the 10.5" ra's thru the years, be them SF or FF setups.
martyGM made C/K 30/3500 DRW pickups with 10,000 GVWR during all years of the '73-'91 body trucks. My '82 C3500 dually had 10K GVWR and 7500 RGAWR.

My opinion of the matter is to discontinue the present 3/4 ton but call the 1ton SRW a F250 or 2500 and make the F 350 / 3500 a dually.
I agree with this. Modern trucks are so far past half,3/4 and 1 ton capacity it's crazyamen to that! I completely agree.

I prefer to buy a truck that's all-stock and then modify it myself to suit my own needs. When I do something myself, I can educate myself and control what and how something is changed so it's done properly for the greater good.

If this is a single rear wheel truck, 80 psi in the rear tires when loaded and 45 psi when empty will help your ride a lot. 65 psi in the front tires loaded and unloaded works good.
You may want to look into air ride seats for driver and front passenger. Likely a lot cheaper than doing an air ride suspension.

I have to disagree with you on this.
This a post from the front page so I really don't think he knows his camper weight. Please reread the entire thread.
Also if you notice he keeps asking if he can upgrade his suspension and go back to his 265 tires, then if he can go to steel wheels and use his 265s. Also just asking if anybody thinks he can just use his 265s. Many mentions of this. I would agree with you that I believe he knows he is overloaded but isn't willing to find out how much.
If you notice Wyotraveler mentioned about rear overloaded. Socal, Brad, and d3500ram have also mentioned weighing the rear axle.
This is IMO
Sometimes you don't need a scales to tell you that you are overweight.:R
And as I quoted him above, why did he change his tires in the first place? Plus, in another thread, he is asking about the price of a srw to dually conversion. Soooooo...he must have some inkling of his weights.
ryoungI think he knows he's overweight, it's just a matter of HOW MUCH overweight he is. To know that, he needs to take it to a scale.
